Hi Buddy

Why are u still in INDIA,go to oxford because it would give u international exposure and also add dimension to ur profile.

CIAO 😃

Diwakar

very simple
oxford will give international exposure .. may be easier foreign placements
IIM A (or C or B) will give may be better quality of education
and as ppl have heard more academic rigours may make u tougher and inculcate hard working capabilities ...(not ruling out foreign placements either)

so see both the aspects and decide for ur self
had i been in a similar situation i wud go for IIMA (which i am going... )
i donot know much abt oxford .. rank of B school .. placement prospects (which r diff for foreign students wrt local brits..)
but my view may be skewed as i donot have special aspirations for settling abroad...
if u want to settle abroad hten surely go for oxford
also if u plan coming back i guess lotsa indian companies may prefer IIMs over foreign b schools

anyway it is ur call mate

Um.. unless he means SBS UK .. Said Business School... ? Now thats a top 30 in the world .. If you can leverage it to the max - way to go!!

definitely oxford... whats here in india?? fine, good interantional placements in abc but yu'll have to bust your ass to get in, in oxford you'll get one directly... th international exposure as in living abroad is very important too... so if you want to get into a consultancy as their rep/head in asia, better go into it from abroad... salaries for a an oxford grad and an iim grad for the same job are NOT ging to be at par, dont even think abt it!!
so go in, and lets meet at sindhrot this evening... 😁

by oxford, i mean Said Business School which is ranked 25th or so in the world by financial times. its the 2nd best b school in Uk acc to them.

I mean international exposure is fine, but then is one year really good enough for a career changer?? any thoughts on this please....

Hi Vineet... 😃

Just one question.. are u talking about OXford SBS or Oxford Brookes!! If its SBS.. I would choose that over any Indian BSchool...as Nirav said... My future aspirations are a lil different.. i want to work internationally for a coupla years!! 😃 😃

amithmp Says
anyway, we have a current oxford student on board, you may want to talk to him...see http://www.pagalguy.com/cat/viewtopic.php?p=49170&highlight;=#49170

No, amit.. u are slightly mistaken.. Santosh is in Oxford Brookes University!! Not Oxford's Said Business School (SBS is in the TOP 50 schools in the whole world.. IIMA doesnt even figure in the top 100!! :!: )

Hey Nirav... can u really comment about that!!! What standards of comparison are u using when u talk about the quality of education!!! :!: :!: Its easier to teach a bunch of brains together on the same platform but very very difficult to deal with distinct individuals from diff backgrounds & races... :!: :!:

Talk about academic rigours...Do u mean that 2 yr program at IIMA is more rigorous than a 1yr program at Oxford.. How can u say that!!! By any logic, it shld be double difficult if not any lesser!!! any foreign good school, u would have minimum worked with 3-4 companies by the time u graduate... how do things look like in IIMA???

No.. am not against or for anything... just a lil inquisitive..about how ppl can make such blatant judgements!!! 😃 😃

also if u plan coming back i guess lotsa indian companies may prefer IIMs over foreign b schools

Yes.. this is 100% right!!! 😃

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the cost factor yet.
On one side u've IIM-A which costs abt 3 L and on the other hand Said shud be costing abt 23-26000 pounds approx (LBS charges 26000 for the 1 yr fin prog). If ur looking 4 foreign placements, yes its better but Said does not guaranty u foreign placements, in fact it does not guaranty any placements and if i remember correctly even the top 5 schools in the US cudn't place abt a 10th of their class a couple of years ago. so don't overlook that factor either.
hope it helps
Kunal

No way. I hv seen IIMA's name in some list. FT I guess. Ranked 49 or so. Not sure

Def. not in the FT list .. I can send one over to you. No Indian School in the top 100.

If cost is also a factor being taken into account then what abt the returns one will get after finishing the course? Isnt it a certainty tht the returns will be far more than wht one may get out of an IIM? And the networking such a course would entail wud be HUGE.....spread across ppl from diff geographic and cultural backgrounds. The networking factor and the exposure alone should pip any of the IIMs.
cheers,
prabhu

Hii

If u have got idmitted into SBS, and your goal is not merely gettin placed in a firm aborad which u cud get even placed thru IIMA and money is not a problem..tehn I wud say u shud pik up SBS, oxford bec there u will get to study n interact with ppl who have probably started their own companies, have been at very good positions at top notch places..are most probably over achievers n have come to study at oxford for their high quality edu n to learn frm the classmates.. THIS u will NOT get at IIMA ... rest all will be the same whether SBS or IIMA...

Also, u willdefinitely egt some very good exposure in terms of studyin at a uni like oxford..whihc will be a learnin experience in itself..rem studyin at oxford uni does not restrict u to SBS alone but u get to take advantages n meet ppl frm all over the world who come to study at this prestigeous university.

I ahve studied in UK ( manchester) n been to oxford...its a beautiful place too 😃

The 1 yr mba or 2 yr mba does not really make a difference..In UK all MBA progs are 1 yr.

ofcourse if its oxford brookes uni..drop the idea rt now..its a shit uni and IIMA wins against it hands down!

That would be the rankings released by Economist Intelligence Unit for 2003.

IIM-A is ranked 45th while SBS comes in at 57.

hey vineet werent u in the same A GD with me , u were first to be interviewed in our grp
27th March morning
though i have rested m ycase before you,

disagreeing wiht simba
the 2 year course makes you work ahrd for 2 years (see the time frame) as against one year
though more topics may be covered

also vineet as i remember u were in to your own business
so if you plan to expand it abroad as well go to oxford
but if it is more likely u shall stay in india for business then i am not very sure how oxford may be better.

also as for quality or ranking i need to say a lot of things taken in to account like no of visiting faculty .. funding .. wifi campus etc where u may not be able to compare indian b schools wrt UK or american b schools
more like apples vs oranges issue there is not a level playing ground

also it maters how much can you learn or take out from the school to leverage ur career rather than going for the topmost rank

and remember in indian b schools there are many cross overs career changers
engg to fin or mktng
i donot know howmuch of this happens abroad ... chk it out in the SBS or which ever place u have got admission to ka website

this was my 2 pence
but do post ur final decision onthis forum

Sadly those rankings are never referred to anywhere. Usually when any kind of ranking which involves worldwide univs comes up - people usually refer to Business week or Financial Times. Not even WSJ.

In terms of specific US based rankings - people go for BW/FT/USnews. That pretty much rounds up the list of most used/acknowledged rankings 😃
