Hi All,
I'm willing to go US, i'm having 2 years of exp in IT in a good MNC but prior to that i am having some (3 Yrs) gap where i have involved in certain business activities in Bangalore.
I'm very much interested in pursuing MBA, prior to that i have to go US. Some of my friends are suggesting that do MS (as we will get 2.5 yrs of OPT, it will be bit easier to sustain there within that period) than MBA(as we will get only 1 yr OPT itself, it will be bit difficult to get a job within that period).
Is it true that we will get only 1 yr OPT for MBA students??, can't we extend that OPT period ??
I will be glad if you can suggest me in deciding (MS/MBA) , i am bit confusing :-)
Thanks again !!
Regards,
Kishore
Yes - STEM courses - Science,Tech, Engg and Math MS courses get you a 2.5yr OPT whereas an MBA is only a 1yr OPT. Also note that if you use OPT during MS you will not get OPT after MBA. You can use OPT only once at any degree level so if you use it for MS, then the next time you can get OPT will be for Ph.D.
what is OPT ?
OPT = Optional practical Training - a Student-Visa dependent status that allows you to stay in the US and work. Applicable only after you graduate.

Thanks for the reply dude...
any idea on the dual degree programs like MS-MBA and MIS. What is the OPT that we can get for these ??
depends on the college offering them but MIS,MBA are non-STEM degrees so I suspect it would be a 1yr OPT.
