[Official] Singapore Management University (SMU)

I plan to appear for the GMAT in the month of May, 2013. I have 2 years of experience in an IT industry. Would it be advisable to do an MBA from the SMU?

@saurabh231 - yep. I did the same. Got to know one referral was missing and fixed it.
Thanks man...
@Visweswarareddy : Hi Visweswarareddy, hope you have got your query resolved.

Hey, if its generic info that you need, I suggest you ping one of us. We will be happy to help!

its been almost a couple of weeks since the first round deadline... any interview shortlists so far??

Hi all I am new to this thread. I want to apply to SMU for MBA 2014 class. Seeing my profile- 690/3.5 yrs exp/ civil engineer- operations best suits me. But I am unable to find the list and details of electives SMU offers in operations. I want to get an insight for operations field in Singapore and how is the overall program in SMU. Meanwhile I have got admit from Katz, Pittsburgh but have not taken a decision yet because of strict visa rules in US. If anybody can state along with the query the work permit rules in Singapore post MBA the info will be helpful for me. Thanks in advance.

@ds1387 : Please drop me a message with your email address. I will send the list of electives to you.

Some questions on SMU:

1. How are you financing your MBA? Are there any loans available?
2. How are the placements like, especially for those with core engineering backgrounds? How many Indians landed jobs in Singapore after graduation?
3. How's the life in general at SMU?

@ds1387 : I see that your query regarding work permit was not answered. Your question appears very open ended. Let me try to answer is as best as I can. You need not worry about the work permit/employment pass as the employer will apply for your employment pass on your behalf. Are there any more parts to your question related to work permit?
@SMU_Singapore Hi..After a 2 year MBA program, will a 1 year work permit be available to Intl students for job search in Singapore.

Also, any info sessions scheduled in Pune or Bangalore?

@GMAT_Conquer : SMU MBA is 1 year course. After the completion of 1 year MBA course, International students can apply for the Long Term Visit Pass (application processing time is 6 weeks) and this non-renewable pass will allow them to remain in Singapore for up to a year, to look for employment. Please note that this pass is only applicable to graduates from certain educational institutions such as SMU.

I have already sent you a private message regarding Pune info-session. If you are in Bangalore, I could meet up with you and provide all the details that you get in an info-session. Let me know which city are your based out of.
@SMU_Singapore You might have been asked this many times. Is a 1 year program recommended for people who want to change career tracks - say from IT to Corporate Finance . Some industries( Operations,Supply Chain) accept career changers, some don't(IB,VC) .This is where relationship of SMU with potential employers becomes important.

How do you help students in their job search, esp.jobs in VC or IB, where prior experience is preferred. Also, with a 1 year program...there won't be any internships.
@GMAT_Conquer Internships are possible and are in fact part of SMU's course schedule. I have had the chance to talk to a student of 2012 and was told that some of his classmates were able to convert internships to full-time job offers..!! Hope that helps 😃
@saurabh231 and @harichids congrats on your admit! I am keen on applying for full time MBA at SMU. But am I too late for applying? as in have too many Indians already made it to 2014 batch? Also, are you getting any scholarship? Do you know any students /alum from SMU MBA? Can you connect me?

my profile-
gmat-640.
4 years work ex marketing hotels, 1 year as volunteer in ngo.
bachelor in english-Delhi Univ
goals-marketing in consumer goods/services

@winds81 My honest opinion - your both gmat and work ex are on the lower side of the class average so it may be a little difficult now but then it also depends on your application and interview etc. There is no harm in trying I ll say

@winds81 Round 3 is impossible to get in unless you have a very unique profile. Apply next year. It's very late now.
