The age of a father was three times that of his son when the father was as old as the son is now.find ratio of present ages of father and son????plzz xplain them not good at solving ages problems
If it is 5x and 3x, then when the father was 3x, son would be x. So father now would be 5 times as old as son then. So 5 : 3 is not making sense.

Still could be wrong. In fact, is wrong as the answer does not match the data (see above post).

@scrabbler explanation given there was like this

They have taken old age of father and son both. Ambiguity in English.

plzz xplain them not good at solving ages problems
Let the present age of father be x
son be y
father would have been x-(x-y) years old at that time=y
son would have been y-(x-y)=2y-x
y=3(2y-x)
y=6y-3x
3x=5y
hence 5:3
@scrabbler they have asked for present ages so was the oa wrong??

@scrabbler the answer is 40.6%...plz do have a look at it again

That will come if you take the base as (12 + 20) in my solution. I am not sure what base to take - I took 12 as it was the first transaction and we're asked profit over the entire deal. But there is a case to look at your investment as 12 + 20 as well.

Chalo doston am off now...work beckons :(

I came across this question under the simplex method..please can anyone help me in solving it..would be gratefulSolve the following Linear Programming Problem using Simple method.
Maximize Z= 3x1 + 2x2
Subject to the constraints:
x1+ x2
x1 - x2
x1, x2 >=0

3x1=9-3a/2-3b/2
2x2+a-b=2
2x2=2-a-b
3x1+2x2=11-5a/2-5b/2
to maximize set a,b as zero
3x1+2x2=11

A supply of water lasts for 200 days,if 10 galloons leak of every day and lasts for 20 days if 16 gallons leak daily,find the total quantity of water in the supply???
To completely fill a half filled tank, tap x is opened and the tank is fully filled in 20 hours. But after 4 hours, the power goes off. Before the power came, exactly half of the water, which was in the tank, had been used. How much time would it take now to fill the tank completely?

Let there be total W litres of capacity
in one hour it fills W/20 lts
in 4 hours W/5 L
water left after power cut =W/10
Water left to be filled W-W/10 =9W/10
W/20 in one hour
1 L in 20/W hour
9W/10 L in 20/W * 9W/10
=18 hours

V = 200x + 2000 = 20x + 320
From here, x = daily consumption of water = 84/9

Hence, V = 34800/9 = 11600/3 ?? Weird, eh! ...

F-1 = 4(S-1)
F+6 = 2(S+6) + 9

F = 33
S = 9

Ratio = F/S = 11/3?

33:9?
