there are four distinct numbers such that first and last ones are equal.the first three are in A.P and last three are on G.P. find the common ratio of last three1-11/2-2
the 4 numbers are -2 1 -2 4

so common ration is -2

That satisfies the conditions how? The first three are not in AP AND the 1st and 4th are not equal.

-2, -1/2, 1, -2 might work. Or any multiple thereof.

a , a+d , a+2d , a

(a+2d)^2 = a*(a +d)
ratio = a : d = 4 : -3

series is :- 4 , 1 , -2 , 4

required answer = -2

1000*1/2*2/3*4/5=1000*4/15=800/3=266

a1a2=192
(a1+d1)(a2+d2)=360
d1a2+d2a1+d1d2=168

(a1+2d1)(a2+2d2)=576
a1a2+2(d1a2+a1d2+d1d2)+2d1d2=576
2d1d2=576-192-336=48
d1d2=24

(a1+7d1)(a2+7d2)
192+7*168+42*24=
192+1176+1008=2376??

990*1/2*2/3*4/5 equals to 264

264 plus 2 equals to 266

a1*a2 = 192
(a1 + d1)(a2 + d2) = 360
a1d2 + a2d1 + d1d2 = 168

(a1 + 2d1)(a2 + 2d2) = 576
d1d2 = 24

(a1 + 7d1)(a2 + 7d2)---->a1a2 + 7a1d2 + 7a2d1 + 49d1d2
192 + 7(168 + 6*24 ) = 2376 ?

i took the lcm of 2 ,3 and 5 to a nearest number to 1000 as 990

990*1/2*2/3*4/5

this gives me the numbers below 990 which are not divisible by 2 ,3 or 5

then i added 2 for 991 and 997
