There are 2 candles which can burn for 7hrs and 8hrs respectively. The two candles are litsimultaneously and initially the first candle was twice the length of the second candle. Howmany hours after the candles are lit, will the two candles be of equal length?a. 5.66 hours b. 6.22 hours c. 5.33 hours d. 5.83 hours
6.22 -- l-lt/8=2l-2lt/7

Find the range of 1/(3cosX + 4sinX + 3)

how to find the greatest among 17^105 and 31^84?

17^105 shud be greater.

@catahead how did u find out?

-1/2 to 1/8 ?
how did u get the lower limit?

Find the range of 1/(3cosX + 4sinX + 3)
-0.54 to infinity..?
-0.54 at x= 235 and infinite at x =180 ??

((17)^5)^21 and ((31)^4)21 .. now evaluate and compare

divide n multiply the following by 5
3cos x + 4sinx + 3 = 5(3/5cosx + 4/5sinx) + 3 = 5sin(x + y) + 3 ... where cos y = 4/5

the range of this will be [-2, 8 ]
so the range of reciprocal will be -1/2 to 1/8

in the above quoted range 0 willl be there . what happens if we reciprocal it? For me answer comes somewherre around -0.84 to infinity. Correct me if im wrong.

usually maximum happens at 45 degrees in case of sum of sin and cos functions. thats y.
since here a inverse is given i took 45 for minimum and of course the function tends to infi at 180.

for what value of x will it reach infinity ?

thanks for clearing it up man....

I think the lower limit is fine, but the upper limit should be infinity....

if sin(x + y)=-3/5......the denominator will turn 0 and hence the expression would be infinity

x=>180
3Cos180 = -3
sin 180 =0
so (3+3cosx+4sinx) =0
y=>infi
