favorable cases = 5C2*2! = 20

total cases = 1 + 5C1 + 5C2*2! + 5C3*3! + 5C4*4! = 206

so , prob. = 20/206

Rajesh started in his car from P towards town Q at 51km/hr. After every minute, the speed of his car increased by 1km/hr. The distance between P and Q is (3775/60)km. Find the time he would take to reach Q (in minutes).

Select two of the five in C(5, 2) ways, they will shot at each other and rest three will also shot at these two so, 2^3 ways

So, probability = C(5, 2)*(2^3)/(4^5) = 80/1024 = 5/64

sir but question says exactly 2 were shot dead

why you are considering other 3

and tell me what i did wrong ?

All of the five shot at one of the remaining four.

Now question says that exactly two were shot at, means all 5 shot at two.
We can select these two in C(5, 2) = 10 ways
These two have to shot at each other, otherwise we will have 3 or more persons who were shot at.
Remaining three must shot at these two (to satisfy the condition that exactly two were shot at), so all of these three can shot at any one of the two, so 2^3 ways

Hence, 10*2^3 = 80 ways

Total = 4^5 ways (as everyone has 4 options to choose for)
Ramesh borrows Rs 7000 from a bank at SI. After 3 years he paid Rs 3000 to the bank and at the end of 5 yrs from the date of borrowing he paid Rs 5450 to the bank to settle the account. Find the rate of interest ?

let the rate of interest be x
=> interest for three years= 7000*3*x/100=210*x

3000 has been repaid.
=> interest for next two years=(7000-3000)*2*x/100=80*x

==> total value of interest=210*x+80*x=290*x
==> 290*x=3000+5450-7000=1450
=> x=1450/29=25%

51/60+52/60+53/60+.......x/60=3775/60

=> 51+52+53+...x=3775
=> x*(x+1)/2-50*51/2=3775=> x^2+x-10000=0

or, x=99.5 approx.

so, minutes taken=99.5-51=48.5

total cases = 4^5
favourable cases => when 2 are targeted by others,and these 2 target each other => 5C2 * 2^3

P = 5/64

I think,

7000 + 7000*r*5/100 = 3000 + 5450 + 3000*r*2/100

r=5%

In a One-day International match between India and Australia, 340 runs were scored by the Australians. The highest run scorer was Steve Waugh, who scored runs between 60-70 runs (inclusive). The remaining ten batsmen scored at least 27 runs each. What are the possible number of ways in which these runs can be scored by the Australian batsmen?10^1020C1021C910^9Cant be determined...

Now I know the answer goes like this: a+b+c+.... 11 variables= 10
Therefore, answer is (11+10-1)C10.. But whats the concept behind the values of n and r (taking nCr as the ans). Hows the n=11+10-1. Whys the -1 there?

Any help?

A swimming pool can be filled by pipe A in 3 hours and by pipe B in 6 hours, each pump
working on its own. At 9 am, pump A is started. At what time will the swimming pool be filled if pump B is started at 10 am?
(1) 11:20 a.m. (2) 11:05 a.m.
3) 11.10 am (4) 10:50 am

11.20 am
By 10 am..1/3rd of the pool is filled
From 10 am to 11 am...1/3+1/6 = 1/2 of the pool is filled
So at 11 am..5/6th of the pool is filled
1/6th is remaining..which can be filled in 20 mins

@soumitrabengeri 341 and 866 are the correct answers.If you get the answer please tell me the complete logic because i asked such questions before also and there is also a link in pagalguy by maximus but still i didm't get it :(

@sujamait : how are u checking the values for k and m ? please elucidate.

Find all numbers of the form 517xy that are divisible by 89.

Any short cut method?????

We need numbers that leave a remainder of 16 when divided by 25
These numbers will end with 1 or 6..correct?
We need to multiply 21 with such a number such that when 5 is added to it, we get numbers ending with 1 and 6
We observe that when 21 is multiplied by numbers ending with 1 and 6 and when 5 is added to it, we get the desired result
So keep checking for numbers such as 11,16,21,26,and so on..
For a proper equation based method..please refer solution by @sujamait
Its the same thing..just using an equation
