What is the radius of the circum-circle of the triangle formed by the line 12x + 5y = 60 and the coordinate axes?
3.5
4.5
6.5
7.5
What is the area (in cm2) of the triangle with medians of lengths 10 cm, 12 cm and 18 cm?
Australia scored a total of x runs in 50 overs . India tied the scores in 20% less over . If India's average run rate had been 33.33% higher the scores would have been tied10 overs earlier.
Find how many runs were scored by Australia?
(a) 250 (b) 240 (c) 200 (c) can not be determined

Absolutely right!! :thumbsup:
When we include stoppage time also, average speed reduced by 9 km/hr
=> in every one hour, bus covers 9 km less.
speed of bus=54 km/hr
==> stoppage time=9/54=1/6=10 minutes

there is direct formula to find the area...when median are given
area=4/3*_/{s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)}
where s=(a+b+c)/2
a,b,c are lenght of medians....
area=160/3*_/2

it will form a right triangle...
with cordinates (0,0) (5,0) (0,12) { x/5+ y/12=60 representing in point slope form}
hypotenuse length is 13
so circum radius =13/2=6.5

solve using options. 240 should be the answer

d) cannot be determined?
Aus: x in 50 overs
Ind: x in 40 overs
India's run rate = x / 40
New run rate = 4/3 * (x/40) = x/30
So India would have scored x in 30 overs irrespective of x.
So CBD
Aus: x in 50 overs
Ind: x in 40 overs
India's run rate = x / 40
New run rate = 4/3 * (x/40) = x/30
So India would have scored x in 30 overs irrespective of x.

x= 40y {y is avg of india}
x= 30 (4/3*y)
not getting any unique value...

(x/30)/(x/40) = 1.33
irrespective of value of x average rate turns out to be 33.33% higher if india scored in 10 overs less. Hence CBD.

Consider the set P = {–5, –3, –1, 1, 3, 5….} consisting of 1998 numbers. If 'a' be the average of the elements in P and 'b' be twice the average of the first 1998 natural numbers, then find the value of (a – b)?

Everyone gearing up for 21st Dec'12 ??? This eerie silence...
Run rate of India in 20% less overs = x/40
If run rate were 33.33% higher, run rate would be = x/30
Run rate in 10 less overs than previous case: x/30
Hence, it is true irrespective of x

A.M of elements of P = [1998/2] * [(3984)/1998] = 1992
A.M of 1st 1998 natural numbers = 1998*1999/2*1998 = 1999/2
2(A.M of 1st 1998 natural numbers) = 1999
Difference = 1999 - 1992 = 7 .. = (b-a)
Hence, (a-b) = -7 ..

-7 ?
first term = -5
n = 1998
d = 2
a = 1/2 ( -10 + 1997(2)) = 1/2 * (3984) = 1992
b = (1999/2) * 2 = 1999
a - b = -7

average speed for round trip is HM of two speeds
hence 1/40 + 1/x = 2/48
=>1/x = 1/24 - 1/40
=>x = 120/2 = 60
=>his speed should be increased by 33%

(a) 250 (b) 240 (c) 200 (c) can not be determined
X score of india
20% less means India finished in 40 overs
so net run rate = x/40
now if the run rate is increased by 33.33% i.e 4/3*x/40= x/30 i.e the run rate for 30 overs which is already given in the question.. and X still remains to be unkown
so CBD
