guys plz help...

gold is 19 times as heavy as water and copper is 9 times as heavy as water. the ratio in which these two metals be mixed so that the mixture is 15 times as heavy as water.

gold:copper = 3:2

Just assume arbitary values and solve

Gold:Copper = 3:2 ?? I applied Alligation!

Gold, G = 19 Water
Copper, C = 9 Water
Required result, R= 15 Water

Now, Alligation..
For copper = G - R = 4
for Gold = R - C = 6
hence, G:C = 6:4 => 3:2

take it as

water = rs 10 per kg
gold = rs 190 per kg
copper = rs 90 per kg

x = quantity of gold
y = quantity of copper

(190*x + 90*y)/(x + y) = 150

ratio = x : y = 3 : 2
Here's an easy one . : You walk upwards on an escalator, with a speed of 1 step per second. After 50 steps you are at the end. You turn around and run downwards with a speed of 5 steps per second. After 125 steps you are back at the beginning of the escalator.

hey frnds 2:3 is the answer. u r getting a wrong answer

19x+9y=15
x+y=1
find x/y; 3/2

let x gm of water be taken
gold= 19x
copper=9x
let 1gm of gold be mixed with y gm of copper
then, 19x + 9xy = 15x(1+y)
on solving y = 2/3
hence proved

abe to gold/copper likaloge to 1/(2/3) karoge = 3/2. I proved you wrong. :P

but book also says 2:3 is correct
