The lengths of the hour hand and the minute hand of a clock are 3.5 cm and 5.25 cm respectively. If the hour hand covers an area of 7.7 cm2, then find the approximate area (in cm2) covered by the minute hand during the same time period.(a) 17 (b) 158 (c) 260 (d) 208Please explain with approach
7.7*12*(5.25/3.5)^2
=207.9 or 208

(a) 17
(b) 158
(c) 260
(d) 208

Please explain with approach
208
ratio of area covered without considering speed =
( Length of minute hand/Length of Hour hand)^2
X/7.7= (3/2)^2 => X= 7.7 *9/4
as the speed is 12 times hour hand so total area =12 X = 7.7*9*3 =208
@soumitrabengeri
208
angle moved by hr hand be Q
Q/360 * pi * 3.5*3.5= 7.7
Q=72
min moved= 144
mean 2 hr + 24 min
24*6/360 * pi * 5.25 * 5.25 + pi * 5.25 * 5.25 + pi * 5.25 * 5.25
12/5 * pi * 5.25 * 5.25= 207.9
208

The top speed of a rail engine is 80 km/hr. When pulling a train of wagons, its top speed is reduced by a quantity proportional to the square-root of the number of wagons. When the number of wagons attached to the engine is 25, its top speed is 55 km/hr. If the top speed must be more than 20 km/hr, what is the maximum number of wagons that can be attached to the engine?
