There is a 50m long army platoon marching ahead. The last person in the platoon wants to

give a letter to the first person leading the platoon. So while the platoon is marching he

runs ahead, reaches the first person and hands over the letter to him and without stopping

he runs and comes back to his original position.

In the mean time the whole platoon has moved ahead by 50m.

How much distance did the last person cover in that time. Assuming that he

ran the whole distance with uniform speed.

Can you please have a look at the attached screenshot and tell me where I went wrong ?


I have got the answer now,by just finding the total number of passwords of 3 characters possible and subtracting the total number of passwords with NO symmetrical character from it = P(25,3) - P(17,3)= 9720.


But earlier I tried like this:

Can you tell me the flaw in the approach.

I created passwords which have 1 Symmetrical character, which will be equal to = 8*17*16 = 2176

Then the passwords with 2 Symmetrical characters, which 9720will be equal to = 8*7*17= 952

And finally, the passwords with all 3 symmetrical characters, which equals = 8*7*6= 336

So the sum comes out to be = 3464, which is way less than the answer.
