I am screwed in DI questions where they ask you which ratio is bigger. Specially when all options are like 42,751/8,350 and 35073/5892 etc.. Can someone help me how to quickly get to the answer in such questions.

I know about the method in which you equate both the numerators (or denominators) of the numbers under comparison by adding the same number to both numerator and denominator.
I am looking for better and faster ways to solve such questions

Cruise A is 380 mts long and travels at 32kmph in still water and Cruise B 180 mts long travels at 40kmph in still water. The 2 travelling in opposite direction cross each other in Atlantic Ocean in a place where there is a current of 8m/s. How long will it take them to cross each other?

1. 20 2. 28 3. 42 4. Can't be determined.

Acc. to the solution, the speed of the current has no effect on the relative speed. Why is this the case? Should the direction of the current not have an effect ( + on one of the cruise and - on the other and so effectively twice the current speed) or am I missing something?
