Official Quant thread for CAT 2013

ABCD is a quadrilateral with integral sides and perimeter of 36 cm . How many different quadrilaterals ABCD can be formed?

@grkkrg@Subhashdec2 please take a look
Sides can not be more than 17 (as if a side is 18, then sum of remaining three sides will also be 18 which is not possible). Suppose sides are 17 - a, 17 - b, 17 - c, 17 - d

So, (17 - a) + (17 - b) + (17 - c) + (17 - d) = 36
=> a + b + c + d = 32
So, C(35, 3) = 9139 such quadrilaterals

sorry for spamming

is there any thread where i can find links to ebooks

i need to ebooks urgently

thank you sir . but should we not consider 1,2,3,4 and 4,2,3,1 as one ??
@albiesriram Is this CL Material, which you are posting ?

mix of every thing.. cl iift past papers,,every thing..

Sir, it contains repeated solutions since 1234 is same aa 1243, please correct me if i am wrong sir

Meena and neena starts simultaneously fom Atowards B .when M has covered 27km N doubles her speed & 6 hrs later she overtakes Meena .What is neena s original speed? Meena speed is 45 km/hr

if one root of the equation (I-m)x^2+Ix+1=0 is double of the other and is real find the greatest value of m.

a 9/8 b 8/7 c 8/6 d 7/5

Sm = 45
Time for 27 kms = 27/45 = 3/5
Dist traveled by N = (3/5)Sn + 2Sn(27/5) = 45*6 ( I am assuming 6 hours is from the start as its not clear )
=> Sn = 45*6*5/57 = 23.68 .. ?

shouldnt be 27/45??

a = 2b..or b = 2a

a + b = - I/(I - M)
ab = 1/(I - M)

3a = -I/(I - M)....i
2a^2 = 1/(I - M)....ii

solve these i and ii you will get eqn in terms of I and M

2I^2 -9I +9M = 0

now D>=0

(-9)^2 - 4*2*9M>= 0
M
