for next 3100 rs discount = 16% of 3100 = 496

he got total discount = 1520 , so remaining discount = 576 he will get on amount above 6300
i.e 9500 - 6300 = 3200

so x% of 3200 = 576

x = 18

Can anyone explain this ?

Q - In an Exam, the average was found to bex marks. After deducing error the average marks of 94 students get reduced from 84 to 64.The average then came down by 18.8 marks, the number of candidates who took the exam were ?

Ans -- 100.

all I can figure out is

reduction = 94 x (20 )

i.e.

18.8 = 94 x ( 20 )

94*84 + (n-94)a / n =x...(1)

94*64 +(n-94)a /n =x-18.8...(2)

(1)-(2)
94*84 -94*64 / n =18.8
94*20/n=18.8
1880/n=18.8
n=100
