Today's teaser :)
Find sum of all possible values of B + E + H such that ABC + DEF + GHI = 891 where each alphabet denotes distinct single digit positive integer.

8 numbers... feels good to be back on PG

@saurav205 said:The reason is 11 is a prime number..so to get a perfect square the other number should also be a 11...11 times perfect square will give you 2 11s and a perfect square...so when you take the square root you get one 11 and sq rt of the (perfect square) , which in this case comes out to be 1..P.S. : BTW what is Team BV?? Bodhi Vriksha??
Team BV = Team Bodhi Vriksha i.e. a team of enlightened ones for enlightenment of mass
I hope you recognise the "Bodhi Tree" :)

17 + 18 + 7 + 8 = 50 ?
@Narci said:17 + 18 + 7 + 8 = 50 ?
How did you get 17 and 8..
I got 18, 8 and 9...
I took c+f=i = 01,11 and 21
so b+e+h can be 09,18 and 28 ..to get that 9 at the end...
M I missing something?? Logic flawed somewhere??
Please point out....

actually i am getting 17..
c+f+i = 21, then we get b+e+h = 17... we also have to check feasibility... as al the letters represent different digits..
c+f+i = 11, then we get b+e+h = 18... but then we wont be able to represent all letters by different digits :/

I missed out on the distinct digit part..

Case 1:-
C + F + I = 11
=> B + E + H can be 8 or 18
a) B + E + H = 8
=> A + D + G = 45 - 11 - 8 = 26 (not possible)
b) B + E + H = 18
=> A + D + G = 45 - 11 - 18 = 16 (not possible)
=> A + D + G = 45 - 11 - 18 = 16 (not possible)
Case 2:-
C + F + I = 21
=> B + E + H can be 7 or 17
a) B + E + H = 7
=> A + D + G = 45 - 21 - 7 = 17 (not possible)
b) B + E + H = 17
=> A + D + G = 45 - 21 - 17 = 7 (possible)
=> B + E + H can be 7 or 17
a) B + E + H = 7
=> A + D + G = 45 - 21 - 7 = 17 (not possible)
b) B + E + H = 17
=> A + D + G = 45 - 21 - 17 = 7 (possible)
So only possible value is 17

100*(A + D + G) + 10*(B + E + H) + (C + F + I)
100*(4 + 2 + 1) + 10*(3 + 5 + 9) + (6 + 7 + 8) = 891
100*(4 + 2 + 1) + 10*(8 + 6 + 3) + (5 + 7 + 9) = 891
required answer = 17*2 = 34

but possible value toh dono cases me 17 hi h... so is adding both required ?

sum of all possible bola hai not sum of all "distinct" possible
A warehouse contains 200 shoes of size 8, 200 shoes of size 9 and 200 shoes of size 10. Of these 600 shoes, there are 300 left shoes and 300 right shoes.. What is the minimum number of usable shoes?
