Walking at his usual speed, a man can cover a distance of 96km in certain time. But he actually walks at an increase speed and every hour covers a distance  which is 1 km more than he would have covered in 1.25 hours walking at usual speed. Thus, he reaches the destination 2 hour too sooner. What is the ratio of his usual time to his new time to cover the distance ?

Two cars A and B start from two points P and Q respectively towards each other simultaneously. After travelling some distance, at a point R, car A develops engine trouble. There are two water drums in my house whose volumes are in the ratio 1:5. Every day the smaller drum is filled first and then the same pipe is used to fill the bigger drum. Normally by the time i return from my college, i.e, at 1:30pm, the smaller drum would just be full. But today i returned a little early and started drawing water from the well with the help of a bucket, poured one-third into the smaller drum and the remaining into the bigger drum. I continued this till the smaller drum was filled. Immediately after that i shifted the pipe into the bigger drum and went for lunch. today if the bigger drum was filled in 12min before its normal time, when was the smaller drum full? ( CAT 2011)

Options: 0, 1, 2, 4

Doubt: The solution given seems to be wrong although final answer is same using their method and my method.

Am I doing it right?

f(f(x)) = -1 or -3

Let f(x)=y

y^2+4y+3=-1 or -3

=> y = -2 

=> x^2+4x+3 = -2

=> No solution

Hey! Can anyone please help me understand this question.. A sum was invested under compound interest, interest being compounded annually. If it fetches Rs.2880 as interest in the second year and Rs.3456 as interest in the third year, find the annual rate of interest.

I used the below approach

a(1+r)^2 - a = 2880

a(1+r)^3 - a = 3456.

Was not able to get the answer using the above approach. Please help
