NEW UPDATED NMAT 2020 PAPER PATTERN!
The new and changed NMAT 2020 paper pattern that has been released by NMAT by GMAC. You should know the paper pattern well to start strategizing. This important step is skipped by many students.
Now, the changed format will have 108 questions in 120 minutes. that's a good change in terms of the number of questions being reduced. However, the weightage has changed. Earlier, quants used to have the maximum weightage, followed by LR and the VA Section.
You have 52 minutes For Quants and DI, which has increased. LR has been reduced to 36 questions, 40 minutes time. So, you have more time. In the Verbal Ability section, you might still feel time crunch because you have 36 questions and 28 minutes of time.
Now, there is equal weightage for all 3 sections, with 36 questions each, making it a total of 108 questions. I would suggest you to start building your concepts and basics for all the sections as I expect Quants and DI is going to be tougher.
Overall, you still have 120 minutes but the allocation to each section has changed.
Another significant change is terms of the whole concept of scoring range. The whole concept of 3 marks per question will not work now.
An interesting advantage which we are getting here right now is that you will get your scorecard with your scaled scores within the next 48 hours of giving the exam & you won’t have to wait for the window to get over to know your results, basis which you could decide on whether to give a second attempt.
Refer to this more insightful video which might deepen your understanding: NMAT 2020 New Paper Pattern |Scaled Scoring Pattern | Important Registration and Exam Dates
I would suggest you to get on board with your preparation and understand the changes and prepare as per what you feel is more important for you.
However, you should not waste your time on scaling and all these aspects right now. You need to focus on the preparation and time management skills to maximizing your scores.
All the Best!
NMAT is an exam that would open a plethora of opportunities in terms of B-schools for you. If you’re lucky, you might even make it to NMIMS, Mumbai which is one of the prestigious B-schools in the country. From my personal experience, I would say that it is a college that can make your career in the corporate world and definitely change your life.
It is an exam that requires clarity of your basic concepts in quantitative aptitude and data interpretation, verbal ability, and logical reasoning. The preparation can be done in approximately 2-3 months, which can obviously vary from person to person. Some people might prepare in a month’s time also, which would depend on the dedication and prior knowledge of a candidate.
This does not mean that you need prior knowledge, it just acts as an added benefit in terms of the time that needs to be devoted.
In order to help you understand how the preparation needs to be done, I’d suggest you to first understand the pattern of this year’s paper at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_l3Kr5jeojw&list=PLtMMdSqG5RhyGJuCfs0K6wBcxe2lKVtCu&utm_source=Aanchal_NMIMS&utm_medium=quora&utm_campaign=aanchal_quora
This year I believe that the paper would go up in the difficulty level.
Quant and DI– You can expect an increase in the difficulty level of questions, or a lengthier section.
LR– Same as Quant and DI: You can expect an increase in the difficulty level of questions, or a lengthier section.
Verbal- Easy or moderate level, with time management being the key.
A few tips:
1) Have a clear understanding of all the concepts from the very start
2) Practice each day
3) Take mock exams and make sure to do an analysis
4) Make a schedule and try to follow it
5) Study with a cool mind
I hope this helps!
All the very best to you!
The exam pattern for NMAT 2020 exam has been changed this year. For your convenience, I would list down the pattern here as follows:
Section 1: Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation:
No of questions: 36
Time: 52 minutes
Score range: 12- 120
Section 2: Logical Reasoning:
No of questions: 36
Time: 40 minutes
Score range: 12- 120
Section 3: Language skills:
No of questions: 36
Time: 28 minutes
Score range: 12- 120
From this year onwards, the scorecard with your scaled score for the sections and your overall total will be released within 48 hours of giving the exam. Also, a major change would be that the exam would follow a scaled score based on your performance of the previous question.
This implies that with the number of correct answers increasing, the difficulty level of the questions would also increase. In case, your answer is incorrect, the difficulty level of the question would go down.
A few tips:
1) Make sure that you have all your concepts cleared and not crammed.
2) Study all the topics as there are sectional cut-offs in this exam which is why it would be better to be prepared with everything.
3) Keep a track of the time always.
4) Give as many mocks as possible and make sure to analyze them. A mock exam given without an analysis is as good as never having taken the exam at all.
5) Keep your cool during the exam as it is very important to not get emotional if you aren’t able to solve a few questions. Remember, you can take this exam 3 times, which means there is a very high chance of performing well, given that you have prepared well.

This year the exam pattern and the marking scheme of NMAT BY GMAC have changed considerably.
According to the new paper pattern you have to solve 108 questions in 120 minutes. This would be in line with the GMAT exam wherein the difficulty level of every question increases based on your previous answer. This means that as you go on marking the right answers, the difficulty level would increase, and as soon as you answer incorrectly, the difficulty level would go down.
The scorecard would also be made available within 48 hours of your attempt and this time there would be one single window only for taking the tests.
For your reference, I’d mention the change here as follows:
No of questions: 36
Time: 52 minutes
Score range: 12- 120
2. Logical Reasoning:
No of questions: 36
Time: 40 minutes
Score range: 12- 120
3. Language skills:
No of questions: 36
Time: 28 minutes
Score range: 12- 120
