HUMANS OF IMT HYDERABAD

I believe patience is the key to thrive in each step of life. And I can say for sure that being patient is what has aided me in all my tough spots.

I keep telling my friend that sports are my cup of coffee. It is one of the places where talking the talk doesn’t count for much if you can’t walk the walk. And that is exactly the kind of discipline where I see myself thrive in. Sports runs in my blood. You see, I come from a family of district champions. I feel the most like myself when I am out in the field, competing in some sport or the other. And I keep finding myself out in the shooting field. I could spend weeks there without having to take a nap if you ask me. From being a college champion to winning the state championship and then hitting 550/600 in nationals to achieve 39th AIR, I have enjoyed all the virtue this game has given to me. Apart from the various achievements, something that sports has taught me is -Discipline, self-confidence, responsibility, accountability, and teamwork, which has helped me in every aspect of my life.

But since you can’t solely rely on sports to provide you with a stable career, and it is actually because of that I needed to have a backup option. And that is why I went for a degree in computer science, and then, my MBA right here as we speak.
Things can get pretty stressful, and you need some form of recreation you can always fall back on. Something that is guaranteed to help you unwind. For me, that some-thing is music. It isn’t something that I merely do as a hobby, to eke out some fun. It is something that goes beyond passion, and figuring out how to play a new instrument is one of my favorite things to do. Whether it’s a saxophone, side flute or a tabla, it isn’t merely an instrument to me. It is something that helps me find my center, my inner spot of peace. Like I mentioned, I did- that doing an MBA was my backup plan, but I forgot to mention it wasn’t even my first choice for a backup. I wanted to join the army to defend and serve the nation, in the first place. But, due to some chances I missed out on in my earlier days, I had to let go of that dream.
However, there are more ways to serve your country beyond just being on the frontiers. And I intend to do just that in my own way, using my knowledge to aid the country in any way I can.
So, my two cents-keep your spirits up, don’t stop believing in yourself and be prepared to fight against all odds to become that best version of yourself you always envisioned on becoming.

HUMANS OF IMT HYDERABAD
Being different is always considered peculiar, and yes, I am a bit of a weirdo.

I am the eldest person of my generation in the family, and that brings an inherited responsibility (a typical north Indian tradition) which I carry on my shoulder and want to walk with it till eternity (chuckles)

Being a quiet and shy person, it was always a difficult task for me to be a social butterfly, which sometimes worked adversely for me; till my school days, only one person was there who I could claim as my friend.

UG was a significant shift in my life; I mean a taciturn guy who never enjoyed talking to people, wakes up at 6 AM, clean the streets and other areas once in a week with nearly 70-100 other fellows and celebrating festivals and other traditional activities with them was something that I never did earlier. My UG days encouraged me to accept the rainbow of society and taught me that being with people gives you unforgettable moments and inexpensive life lessons. In the final year of my college, I participated in MUN, which I considered my achievement only because that was a new Keshav I saw, from a shy person to a boy presenting ideas and other stuff in front of the whole community.

Yes, it’s rare when I laugh, it’s very few times when I speak, and it’s once in a blue moon when I go for an outing, but I don’t think these things make me boring. I have my idea of fun; I never liked jumping on the same beat with 500 people but loved to listen to music for hours. I love to meet with people, hear their ideas, appreciate their experiences and explore the new ventures that life provides at various steps.

My love for exploration inspired me to join MBA, and yes, I learned a lot here. Yes, I missed the offline touch, but I met with some fantastic people with whom I can chill, laugh, and discuss ideas with. I enjoyed being in clubs and enjoyed the journey of idea generation, the tea I always wanted to have.

Amidst my transformation, I met with this person I am most comfortable with; which started out as friends and eventually became the most beautiful relation of my life.

The most adorable thing that tied us is our understanding. Since childhood, I’ve always done something I didn’t want to do or was oblivious to the consequences of my acts. What bothered me was my social recognition: how people perceive my nature and behaviour. With her, I overcame all those shortcomings and learned about my actual self, or, to put it another way, I received all the answers to the questions I had about myself in my early days.
My idea of living a beautiful life is to understand the situation, examine your potential and try to work upon the arguments that you always believe in. Yes, you might not end up doing great, but it will certainly satisfy you, and that satisfaction leads you to the path of success. Yes I have always been under the baggage of being the eldest child of the family. Still, that responsibility also adds discipline and determination to your life.
If I could advise someone, I would tell them to interact with people, talk to someone you know the least because in my journey so far, I learned every person has something unique that might teach you the most fantastic lesson of your life.
Life is not about "Winners and “Losers”; it is about “You”, so make it your own.

“Painting & Design Thinking”

I have been very passionate about painting right from my childhood days. My school curriculum laid strong emphasis on art and sculpture. During the pandemic, I got enough time to rejuvenate it. It got triggered by looking at one of my former student, Sudipto’s painting on Facebook. He is an accomplished painter and artist. Once during my conversation, he motivated and guided me in buying relevant art materials like 300 GSM watercolor papers, natural hairbrushes and artist grade watercolor. I began researching on the leading watercolor artist and started following them in various social media platforms. I also did a short course on understanding the various nuances of the watercolor medium. I started by painting landscapes but slowly got attracted to architectural paintings. The subtle play of light and shadow appealed to me. Initial days were quite frustrating but slowly with time I could see marked progress in my brush strokes and composition.

I believe art is a language of expression just like any other language. Kids learn to draw lines even before they can speak. Being a business professor, I strongly feel that the fine art skills like painting should also be embedded in business curriculum for the new age professionals. These days, design thinking is quite popular among business school. I believe painting is a precursor to design thinking. As someone said If what is seen and experienced is portrayed in the language of logic, then it is science. If it is communicated through forms whose constructions are not accessible to the conscious mind but are recognized intuitively, then it is art” (Calaprice, 2000, 271).” Even Einstein himself believed all great scientists are artists.

Internship Journey with Marico

Last summer of 2020, I had the opportunity through my college IMT Hyderabad to pursue the summer internship program with Marico. My internship was a steep forward learning curve. Each day at Marico brought a new challenge and an opportunity to deep dive into the world of sales and distribution.

Two months with Marico

I was given the opportunity to work with the divisional sales head of West Bengal, my mentor, and the sales team of Kolkata on a project that required me to analyze the challenges in sales for new products and work with the team to create the sales strategy for the upcoming months.

I did extensive survey work with the retailers to understand their challenges and behavior to gain insights that can support my ideas and strategies.

Yes, the virtual internship did dampen the experience of overall sales to a certain extent. Still, the insightful sessions from the senior leadership sales team expanded our approach to comprehend the problem, and listening to their market stint experience gave us the flavor of sales in the FMCG industry.

Interactions with fellow interns, territory sales officers, distributors, and delivery persons helped me learn how products like Parachute and saffola flow from the manufacturers to reach the retailers’ shelves via various intermediaries.

My mentor from Marico, faculty guides were highly supportive during the stint, which helped me take control of my plan, and empowered me to drive the project.

The path toward the Pre-placement offers

From sending the daily update mail to my mentor outlining my ideas and planning for project deliverables to extensive calls for retailers to build upon my insight defined my two-month journey with Marico. This was appreciated by my mentor by taking ownership of the work and developing a solid backing of my ideas.

There were roadblocks when it came to presenting my ideas articulately. I tried improving the quality of decks as much, and my mentor assisted me in honing the skill. The deck I presented had less than 7 slides. Still, the content communicated my understanding of the project, ideas, and strategies for future implications.

The post-internship process, which is the project review and discussion, was comprehensive. The interview process was more like a brainstorming session.

Eventually, the project’s challenges were discussed to understand the future implementation of the project. Post internship review session with a highly experienced leader has given me a fresh approach to comprehending the problem and instilling consumer bias within me.

With various rounds of review and discussion, fortunately, I was able to cross them all to receive the pre-placement offer from Marico.

HUMANS OF IMT HYDERABAD

Well, extraordinary things happen to ordinary people… Am I different?

Better be adept to the mercurial than treading through the set-patterns of life. Smile through the change and the difficulties that come along the way. Preachy huh?

The world gives you a million reasons to fail daily, and my life is no different., Let me tell you this as well-I ended up with quite a few tricky experiences at IMT itself, be it the first person to have impositions on by the Disciplinary Committee; in fact, you name it for these committee exposures–I would have it on my kitty at a time or the other. Clubs and Committees aside, I got into the business of NCC and led it at that. I almost had my registration cancelled, lost a best friend, and at one point didn’t even know what was I exactly doing here? I took these kinds of experiences to those of as learnings. If there is anything, I have realized through this all, it is–

‘Life is not Black and White; life is what exists in the zones of Grey.’ And to live, you need to experience all fifty shades of it. If I put my life on a graph to understand the crests and troughs through the life I led, it must be a V-shaped one and trust me, that is not even the best part yet; I am sure. I genuinely believe, that to ace at anything - perfection is everything.

Since my childhood days, I could never be a consistent student. I never was the academic type, even though I come from a family of professionals in the HR domain. However, there is one thing, I was ever consistent and compatible with that is my undying love for the game of football. That never went with the passing wind. That is my jam, something that I genuinely identify with and feel good about.

It is almost as if nobody wants to talk about the agony that I faced, despite the highs that I am living with. I started trading/shares because of my keen interest, and that later worked out for me. I always emphasize when life hits, you hit it back with more strength to achieve things. It would help if you were passionate about the things you do and have the appetite to accomplish the goal you want.

I shall reiterate to achieve things; you need not be extraordinary rather be amongst the ordinary. Just always remember one thing…
Do Not Go Down.
