My Summer Internship Experience At Deloitte || Harini G || IFMR GSB, Krea University.
A legacy professional services network. An MBA student raring to learn and build skills. A pandemic that caused disruptions worldwide. This year’s summer internship stories are likely to be different from last summer’s given that students worldwide faced a situation that none would’ve fathomed. However, every situation comes with an opportunity. To Harini G, a 2nd year MBA student at IFMR Graduate School of Business (GSB) - Krea University, that opportunity took shape in the form of a summer internship at Deloitte.
It was a dream come true to be chosen from so many students and interning at one of the finest and reputed consulting firms in the world. The day I received my confirmation, my excitement just grew leaps and bounds. As everyone is well aware, the COVID-19 pandemic threw everybody’s plans aside and left students mostly wondering how they would be able to find real-world experience while staying at home. However, the internship set all my apprehensions aside with a learning curve undeterred by the disruptions.
The two-month internship was packed with insights, right from a seamless onboarding process to regular follow-ups and encouraging flexibility to allow us, interns, to explore our potential. The internship began with ice-breaking and peer-to-peer sessions. As interns, we were encouraged to network and build skills, with mentors by our side sharing their feedback immediately. The fortnightly leadership conversations gave us a rundown on the nature of consulting projects, countering challenging situations in a project, and understanding growth opportunities inside the organization. The regular guidance from the corporate mentor helped me learn how one can approach a problem and deliver a win-win situation.
Quite often, I had imagined what it would’ve been like to work in an office with my peers and seniors. It goes without saying that the organization fosters a healthy environment that caters to everyone, intending to uplift each other and help everyone grow professionally.
This internship opportunity couldn’t have been possible without IFMR GSB’s constant support and encouragement. With a strong foundation already set, IFMR GSB’s program and faculty experts truly prepared me for a learning experience like no other right from the basic level to being able to gauge managerial concepts across domains. An enriching experience that gave structure to all my ideas, this was the perfect internship in a not-so-perfect world and I’d be happy to do it all over again!
