What my internship at Credit Suisse taught me
- Soumya Anand Singh, IFMR Graduate School of Business (Batch of 2021)
Right on the cusp of the “new normal”, when I thought of the idea of a virtual internship, I was understandably quite apprehensive about what and how I might learn and build my skills. The pandemic has made my classmates and me a part of the first-ever cohort at IFMR GSB to secure and pursue an internship completely online. However, it couldn’t have been more fulfilling! It’s been a smooth ride right from the beginning, with special credit to Credit Suisse India’s HR team for ensuring that we interns have a smooth onboarding and exit process.
Virtual SIPs at Credit Suisse India
Nothing came in the way of the projects I was assigned at Credit Suisse India. The projects were structured in such a way that one could easily work out of the home with all the required IT accesses made available ahead of the starting date.
My project was related to market risk and associated mitigation techniques. The project was not just about simply getting down to business, but also involved multiple discussions with the entire team, careful decisions, and lots of knowledge sharing. The internship was designed in such a way that I not only learned from the project alone but also picked up other learnings through the several exchanges and discussions I had with the team and management. While I had never met the team before and interacted with them for only a short period, I still felt included thanks to their mentorship and guidance which helped me complete my project well before time.
The journey forward
Credit Suisse follows an open door policy. Owing to their approachability, I could resolve all my doubts and queries instantly, with the added advantage of being guided by them throughout. One of the memorable experiences during my internship was the one-on-one session with the director/business leader of several verticals at Credit Suisse. These sessions gave me an overview of the several intricacies of the business straight from the experts and their learnings thus far. The skills I built here will surely complement my future learnings.
An internship to remember, I am truly grateful to the faculty and program seniors at IFMR Graduate School of Business (GSB) for securing my internship and supporting us interns while we were all coming to terms with the “new normal” and reeling from the challenges of the extraordinary crisis.

SIP Experience At Ford Smart Mobility LLC -
Kailash Swamynathan, IFMR GSB, Krea University (Batch 2019-2021)
Little did I anticipate when I left the campus in March, following a nation-wide lockdown that it will extend for almost a year. Neither did my batchmates, as we all considered it to be an early vacation. This year has been tough or rather it has been very new for all of us as we had to do our summer internships virtual, from home.
Amidst the pandemic fear and the slow-down in the economy, I am very fortunate that Ford Smart Mobility honored the internship offer and provided me with consistent support throughout. Ford Smart Mobility LLC was established as a subsidiary of Ford Motor Company and is focused to design, build, grow, and invest in mobility-based services and products.
As a student specializing in Marketing, I was elated to grab this internship offer in the field of Product Development as a Marketing and Strategy Intern. I had the opportunity to collaborate with the product team and gained hands-on experience in exploring untapped marketplaces, framing the business models, and analyzing the revenue streams for the same. From estimating the TAM to devising the launch strategies, FSM gave me the opportunity and freedom to work independently across the entire product development lifecycle.
A choice between a well-developed MNC or a growing Startup has always been a difficult choice for most of the B-School students. But FSM is a mix of both. As a startup driven by an MNC, FSM gave me both the work-life balance of an MNC as well as the scope for learning that we get working in a startup. The organization had a very flat hierarchy and the entire team was very friendly and approachable. I had the opportunity to present my final project submission to the firm’s senior management at the Director level.
Post my SIP for 3 months, I was given another opportunity to extend the internship as a live-project and work on implementing my submissions as a project intern. This was like icing on the cake as I was involved in the implementation part of the business use cases, in which I had done the initial Market-Research and analyzed the competitive landscape. During this live-project, I was also involved in a Market-Study for Drone-Based Mobility solutions which were very interesting and I was even called to the office in Chennai for giving a brief presentation about it.
Ford Smart Mobility LLC, SIP experience was enriching and provided me with immense scope for learning and development. The theoretical subjects and the concepts that I learned inside the classroom were very useful and relevant. I must thank my professors at IFMR GSB for designing a curriculum that suited the current market practices and also enabled me to sustain and complete a highly-demanding summer internship. I strongly believe that the technical and functional learnings that I got from this internship experience will stay with me throughout my career.

Journey Of My Summer Internship At RBI
-Rakesh Joshi || IFMR GSB, Krea University
For B-school students, the summer internship is where they learn and build their skills and profile. Moving away from classrooms and heading towards the real-world, internships give students an edge and the opportunity to explore and apply their learnings and make a difference in their growth -- professionally and personally. In this article, Rakesh Joshi from IFMR Graduate School of Business (GSB) - Krea University, shares his RBI internship story.
Jittery yet reeling with excitement, the day I began my internship at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), I knew that my learning journey was just about to take a brilliant turn. Working under their Department of Supervision (DOS) for a research project on ‘Review of Hierarchical System in Rural Co-operative Banks with Specific Reference to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana’, the internship, albeit remote, was beyond memorable. Much like every other student in the world, I, too, was apprehensive and worried about what it would be like to intern at a legacy organization right in the middle of the pandemic. The internship, however, was packed with insights and a world of learning!
How It Started
Neck-deep in deadlines and assignments, it dawned on me that internship season was around the corner and I had to begin my preparations. Weeks of work and studies resulted in a personal interview as part of the selection process. With a calm mind, I spoke in great detail about the projects I had worked on during my first year of the MBA program at IFMR GSB. From banking ratios to macroeconomics - I shared all my learnings and how my knowledge would make an impact at RBI. Soon enough, I got my confirmation as an intern and the rest, as they say, is history.
How It Went
On the first day of my internship, the onboarding process was smooth and seamless. I still couldn’t believe that I was now officially interning at RBI. After all the documentation processes, I hit the ground running. I was given a brief about the banking landscape in India and how banks have evolved over the years, which then paved the way for my research work. I worked on analyzing the financial health of co-operative banks in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, assessing them on various parameters. This also gave me an in-depth understanding of new concepts and ideas which I had learned as a first-year MBA student.
The Way Forward
Working remotely, while it’s not a new concept, came with its set of challenges. An MBA program that interweaves liberal arts into its curriculum helps prepare you for these real-world challenges, and that’s why the whole process of pursuing an education and internship virtually wasn’t as difficult as one would’ve imagined. The internship was research-intensive with the added advantage of mentors sharing their views and guiding me in every step of the process.
Right from insightful conversations to discussing the progress of the research project, I am truly grateful to RBI for giving me the opportunity to interact with some of the brightest minds in the country and help me hone my skills. I am also grateful to all the professors at IFMR GSB for always encouraging us to do better and work towards achieving our goals
I have given my three attempts of NMAT. Will the college decide which score to accept or whether I should notify them?
