Hello Everyone,

I am preparing for CAT and my academic is average through out my life i.e 70%(10th), 91%(12th), 65%(B.com hons from Delhi University) and participated in sports(state level) and i have a work experience of 9 months. If i score good in CAT more than i.e 90%ile + then, is there any chances that i will get a call from SP Jain or from top B Schools (FMS, IIM's etc.).

Would request you guys to please guide me in this respect.
Thanks,
@Apurav90 If u dont mind me answering, bhai 90%ile+ mein koi bhi acha colg nahi milta hain 😃 Not even tier-2 ones like IMT-G, IMI, IIT- M,K,R 😃 U must aim for something much much higher if u wanna get the colgs that u named above.... The ideal score for the best B-schools in india are (assuming u are general+male)-->

IIM ABKIS- very very unlikely
L- 99.3+ (for others it is 99.5+ to be safe, but as u are a non-engg, u are gonna need something less)
C- 333.22 to be precise (99.87+)
new IIMs- 98+ to be absolutely sure
FMS- It calls at above 98.76 (or 98.56, confused!) but thats just show-off. Its very difficult to convert at that percentile. U should have atleast 99.3+ to have a realistic chance (considering it has 70% weightage on CAT score)
MDI- again 99.1+ (higher the CAT score, higher the chances)
SPJain- very difficult at ur profile. If u get an exceptionally high score, u may have chances to get a SCORE-Based call.
IIT-B/IIT-D--> 99.1+
NITIE--> 99+ willbasically cement ur seat.
XLRI--> No emphasis on ur past. Just ur XAT score & performance in interview stage.

Best of luck 😃 There are a looot of options but the score HAS to be high to realize ur dream...

Does anyone have & would want to share soft-copy of TIME & IMS study material?

But this wld happen again once you get into a job, u can have even harder work hours....so just try to do whatever u can, and start preparing in full flow....atb... :)
Hi All,

Since all top B-schools are considering past academic performance. Should I drop my dream to get into a top b-school like FMS. Or Are there any Institutes among the top ones which do not consider past acad. performance.
10th - 70%
12th - 72%
B.Tech - 72% (from NOT so reputed institute)
Presently working in top IT Company

Guys..PLz suggest?
@amandeep2020 If u dont mind me answering, Actually there are SEVERAL B-Schools which are at par with IIMs, if not better, that dont give a damn about ur past. For them, ur test score is of paramount importance. Infact the B-School that u mentioned in the example above, FMS, itself is one such example. If u manage to get a score of 99.5+, it will be very difficult for u NOT to convert that call 😛 Same can be said for other GREATS like XLRI, MDI, IIT-B, IIT-D, NITIE [Though for XL, ur performance in the interview stage will be very important. For the others, it does'nt matter THAT much if u have a HIGH CAT score]. Infact talking of IIMs, u are almost certain of receiving a call from the new IIMs at 97+ & IIM-L at 99.6+ (a bit higher than others here due to ur low acads]. So as u can see, u have a loot of options 😃 But keep it in mind that ur test score is gonna make it or break it for u.... And trust me BLINDLY when i say that getting 99.5+ is a HUGE ask. So focus all ur energy on this.....Best of luck :)
@ordinary_guy thnx bro... :)

@ordinary_guy

Dear ordinary_guy (nothing ordinary about ur scores though 😃 ).....I see that you gave GMAT as well as CAT.....I have a GMAT score of 720....from ur experience what will that translate to in CAT percentile? (I understand I am asking u to compare apple and oranges....but still hoping u will answer......just want to benchmark myself)...Thanks in advance :D

@UpsD Good score bhai.... 😃 a score of 720 definitely translates to 99+ in CAT.... The median score in Harvard is 724, Stanford 728 & Yale 722.... So u could really try ur luck there or maybe ISB here in India, depending upon ur profile ofcourse..... I am pretty sure its gonna be smooth sailing for u ahead & u are not gonna have any problems in CAT... :)

@ordinary_guy thankssss....subah achi ho gayi meri with ur encouraging words.... 😁 I will be appearing for CAT 2013 (1st attempt)....I have only 2 yrs work ex so far so I dont think the phoren B schools will give me much bhav .....So keeping fingers crossed for ISB and other indian B schools...

Now I just need to tighten my belts and do my best to bell CAT 2013 :D

Thanks and good day to u ! And all the best for those dream conversions A/B/C :)

P.S: its a behen, not a bhai :D

FRNZSS CAT-2013 WILL BE MY 2ND ATTEMPT... ANY GOOD BOOKS FOR VERBAL AND REASONING APART FRM THE COACHING MATERIALS.....??????? NEED HELP.....

Guys pls help me out.
what is the best preparation strategy for quant in cat?

should i first go through all the concepts of all chapters and then start taking tests....or should i learn a chapter and take its test and then move on to the next chapter?

@vishcat

Hi...I am no expert....I can only tell u what works for me.......

Step 1: break all chapters into clusters. for eg. my first cluster consists of Geometry, coordinate geo and NUmber systems(coz number sys and geometry are the most frequently tested areas.....however u can form your cluster according to your personal strengths/weaknesses etc...)

step 2: Do the theory of the cluster. Pratice with example questions in the book you are following(arun sherma/sarvesh K verma/ TIME material?any other of your choice).

Step 3: Do questions from the Excercises of these books. If you are following Arun sharma...do level of difficulty 2 completely and alternate queations from level 3....I leave the remaining questions for later practice.

Step 4: you may solve questions from test papers now,

Puys, i reside near Bengaluru - Jayanagar area. Can you please review classroom courses TIME/IMS/CL. I am not interested in BYJU. I attended his demo classes . IMO he is all about shortcuts, and can be of hassle for aspirant if not thorough with the conventional methods. Want reviews of TIME/IMS/CL and about the discounts.
P.S Have study material of TIME/IMS.
@rdas1989 I am enrolled in TIME Indiranagar.....IMO if you are just starting from scratch you might find it difficult to cope with the quant classes....verbals they teach from the basics...but quant and LR need some groundwork....
@UpsD i really appreciate your help. What i have been doing is going through chapters only solving all the examples of those chapters and some exercise questions of arun sharma and i m thinking of solving all the exercise questions at a time after finishing all the concepts......and taking the mock tests side by side...how abt this.....?
btw have u talked abt this to any experienced khiladi?.:)...i mean cracked cat ofcourse
@UpsD Thanks for clarifications. I appeared for exams in 2012 and hence, I do not have to do anything from scratch, what, I need, is reassessment of my preparations. Time Jayanagar is near to me. Any idea about faculty in TIME here? What about CL/IMS?
