Hi puys, I am in a bit of delimma whether to go for a coaching institute or not. Last year I joined CL in my 4th year of engineering and got only 87%ile. This year I prepared on my own an d had only 2 months to prepare due to joining and all and gave some tests from home only. This year I scored 84%ile. Now I am in a delimma whether to prepare on my own or join an institute. Please suggest and which institute?

My Profile is like this :

Acads:
Btech ECE CGPA 7.463 ,
10th : 84.2
12th : 83.2

Projects :
4 (including one BTP final year proj, and one in england

Co-curriculars :
few -
have co-ordinators' certi in 3 events (one was major other minors) .
and some Participation certificates.

Work xp: 33 months (by the time I write it in my resume next year )
electronics - 25 months. ,teaching - 8 months


QUESTION:

SHOULD I GIVE CAT THIS YEAR. WOULD I BE ABLE TO MAKE IT UPTO IIMs WITH THIS PROFILE ???
My CAT % this year was 95.2.

@CatNamoNamah Your profile is really strong. Nobody can forecast his/her %ile on the basis of previous year's score.U might be one of the 100%er's next year as well.Anything above 97%ile with 90+ sectionals will fetch you Iim calls..

Which book to buy for CAT 2013 ? Is there any standard book covering all topic and its solutions ? Any particular , well renowned book standardised by CAT people
Like in GMAT there is Official Guide-13!

if you had not enrolled to any coaching institutes then you can consider ARIHANT or Arun Sharma for QA,VA,DI,LR & RC as of now

For Quant only - Arun Sharma ..... Rest for DI, LR & VA there are no such particular book

But Isn't that true that IIMs require only 99% + with my kind of background i.e. 10th, 12th ,btech are 84,83, and 74 only ?
Also I heard (here only) people getting as high as 99.48 and getting 0 IIM calls !!

@CatNamoNamah You were talking about IIMs I guess.So I took all the 13Iims into consideration.If you are concerned with the BLACKI,then you are living on the edge.You need a 99% ile with 97%ile above in both sections.That might fetch you a call.

On what basis are u saying all these? 😲 Please don't comment on things about which u have absolutely no idea.... Do u know that BLACK is practically impossible at 99%ile with only 80+ , 80+, 70+ in 10, 12 and Grad respectively? 😲 Please go through their criterias & the final composite score required for a call to understand WHY!

Need guys who really know inside out of IIM to answer this. My profile-

10th-87.6

11th-81.6
BTECH-7.4[After 5 sems]
Extra Circ-Quizes win in Schools,Cricket team of School and now college,sports win[Athletics].

Now,some guys might be wondering as to why I'm posting this before giving CAT 2013 itself,the thing is seeing 99+ guys getting no calls is a cause of a worry.

I also fall in the category of MALE,ENGINEER,FRESHER,GENERAL!

So,does that mean with the kind of profile I have,rules me out of IIM-A,B,I,K,S??

Then what is left for me? It's sets you down if you're preparing for CAT knowing that 4-5 IIMS won't even call you even if you get 99+ percentile.

Also,what about top B Schools like SP-Jain,FMS,IMT,MDI? Do,they have this criteria of 80+ in graduation too? Coz regardless of whatever I do in the coming 3 sems of my engg,80+ is something which I want reach as conversion rate in my college is 9.09*GPA. Can't be a 9 pointer from here on in.

Please someone who DOES KNOW about the all the criterias[Many guys out here],Answer!
