@sushant1002001 said:Harimohan.......I too am a CA; but as a chartered accountant you are expected to be well aware of ground reality, which you arent. By ground reality, I mean have you even bothered to surf PG for "CAs in IIM" or even IIM's website? CAs get extra points in IIM-B,C and maybe others as well.
Cheer up,mate. Tension deneka and leneka nahii.
I am curious to know:
a)Where did you do your CA from?Which city and firm(articleship)?
b)Your Work-ex (no of years and Company)
c)Other qualifications(eg:cfa,cwa,cs,etc etc)
d)NO OF ATTEMPTS IN CPT,PCC N FINAL(marks/merit)
Please share your profile as I am too now getting serious to know your profile . Please reply.
People,
Lets get back to the purpose of thread.
This thread is to start off with CAT 2013 prep and not personal attacks.
Any post indulging in such attacks shall henceforth be deleted and relevant measures will be taken too for preventing the same.
Thanks.
Hi Puys,:)
I have started preparing for CAT2013 but my academics are really poor
X-63
XII-65
Grad: 6.1 CGPA
Experience : 12 months in Operations.
Do I stand any chance for IIM's? I really want to make it to IIM's and please let me know if any certification can add value to my profile and increase the chances of getting selected into IIM's (I know with this profile my dreams are shattered but still for confirmation wanted to know)

@Poor_Academics IIMs are not the end of the world. Yes with your academic background the IIMs may be a bit far-fetched for you. Sorry for being blunt about it.
But then there are other institutes in top 20 like IIFT, MDI etc. which give high weightage to entrance exam score and so you can very well look out for them. Read this - http://www.pagalguy.com/discussions/all-i-wanted-to-speak-about-cat-25002933/51356 for some motivation!! :)
And as of now, forget about past acads. You can't change it now can you? Focus on the prep and give it your best to get the best possible score and leave the rest to admissions committee to decide whether to call you or not. Leave no reason for them to not select you in what you can still change - your entrance exam score!!!

SC/ST/OBC if you fall in it , can get you the admission.
@ajaygovindg Sir, Thanks for reply! Any Chance for New IIM's or any certification that can increase the chance of selection.
@Harimohan I fall in Gen.. Category

@ordinary_guy Removed the posts.
Your post though is itself full of personal attacks when you are asking other people to stop doing it (talk of hypocrisy). Don't want to get into an argument with you. But please next time let the moderators be the moderators. I gave out my credentials simply because the other person asked for it and called my opinion bullshit - which in itself was not a personal attack rather just plain facts.
Also "Ounce of decency" - where did that come from? Fancy english huh!! 😁

@Poor_Academics Unfortunately NO certification can compensate for low acads! In IIM selection criteria what they look for is X, XII, grad and work exp (mostly quantity). The certifications, quality of work exp etc. and other things in your profile/CV make a difference only in GDPI stage.
@Poor_Academics Buddy... change your name... "Poor Academics" seriously be a bot more optimistic in life if you can be. That would be a positive start.
IIMs as many would have pointed out by now are not the end of it all. There are a lot of good institutes that offer great learning environment and a great career path post completion of the the degree.
Focus on getting a high percentile in the entrance exams. Also since you are into operations, there are some courses in Supply Chain Mgmt. and operations (online courses) from some reputed colleges in India. Look for them. Would give a boost to your profile. Check out ISCM (institute of supply chain management).

@DN2686 @missionCAT13 @dream_BLAC_2013 @ajaygovindg @ansh12345 I am really really really sorry for my stupid attempt at attaining normalcy but hopefully deep down u realize that no matter how idiotic & dumb it was, my intention was never wrong...I was just sick of the duels b/w you guys & NO ONE even trying to stop & just coming back with something more offensive.....I've deleted my comment. Hopefully u all will forgive me as I never meant to cause any personal attack/abuse & finally plz remove ur posts too....Hope u guys have no hard feelings for me.... Sorry :(
@DN2686 Sir, thank u for showing ur true class & doing the honourable thing here.....I am once again sorry if u found anything abusive or offensive....Hope u forgive me...
Generally, what kind of a profile does one have to build as a fresher to get into the IIMs if your percentile is along the lines 99+?
I'm in my 3rd yr engineering,Computer Science and so far my academics goes like this
10th-87.6%
12th-81%
CGPA[Till 5th sem]-7.8
Extra-cc-Sports,Quizes.
What other things should I do in the coming 5 sems to build it up,ofcourse I'll be doing an intern after 6th sem and then project in the 8th sem.
Please tell me guys.
@abhinavrules 3rd year -> remaining 5 sems?! Doesn't match up! Shouldn't it be 3 or 4 sems? :)
Anyways, your profile looks good for IIM calls except maybe Grad. So build that and bring it up to 8.0 if humanely possible! If not, then also you need not worry. You MAY get some IIM calls and also other top 20 institutes are there to look out for! :cheerio:
There is no STANDARD or IDEAL profile for an IIM call/convert. You need to be the best you can, and speak with confidence to SELL yourself to the interviewers. Remember its not what you are now but what you CAN be in future (something that is in short called "place-able" profile) that they are looking for!!
To add MORE brownie points in your resume (not that it is mandatory or a must required, but if that will help build your confidence in any way) you can try for some certifications in the area you intend to specialize in MBA, contribute to some NGO, do some live projects/internships (other than what is mandatory and considered co-curricular with your acads) etc. Check letmeknow.in and letsintern.com for the last one, to find some that looks interesting and productive/useful to you.
P.S: Stop me, if you want someone else to answer your queries across multiple threads! :)
@Mithun994 Yes, should be good enough! You don't need TOO HIGH level of grammar knowledge in CAT & other entrance exams. Basic stuff (you'll get more than that in this NDV Prasad's version) should be more than enough for 4-5 (at max 10) questions for which you'll get 0-2 minutes to solve!!

CA working in TCS as Functional Consultant(International Taxation) since new FY.
Articleship from mid-sized firm
CPT: 74.5pc
PCC: 58pc
Final: 50.13pc (All w/o trial)
Batch:Nov2011
BCOMAF: 64pc (here too IGNOU doesnt have high scorers.....so percentile wise; the marks shall be considered as higher than 64pc)
Class X: 84pc (non cbse board) (board first had 90pc):percentile wise:it should be higher
Class XII: 87pc (CBSE )
Pursuing CFA(USA)
Because of my non-Indian citizenship;it's a bit easier to get admission @ FMS......
All the best,bro.
Regarding your work-ex; you have changed ur workplace a tad too frequently. Not that it shall be a minus point but be prepared to convince the interviewer's mind that you have a "focus of what to do in life". ATB
