GD Topic- Is lokpal enough to tackle corruption?
Time duration-2 min to think and 12 min to discuss
GD Experience- It was good. Spoke with some good points. Towards the end people didnt have too much to speak so it was dragging a bit. Overall very happy with my performance.

PI Experience-
No. Of panel members- 4
M1 - Prof. (Dr.) Vinayshil Gautam (The senior most faculty in whole of IIT)
M2 - Prof. (Dr.) S. K. Jain (HOD)
M3 & M4 - People from industry. Dont know their names.

Interview experience-
I was the last person in the whole day to be interviewed, so I knew it would be a short interview. So I went in prepared. But what happened inside was hardly what I had imagined.

M2- ohk, so tell me about urself, what you do, what are your hobbies, your extra curricular, your family..
Me - Well prepared. Told everything comfortably.

M4 - you said you have visited many places. Which place did you like the best and why?
Me- Calcutta and gave my reasons.

M4 - And which places u think was bad?
Me- Sir all the places were good and its hard to pin point a bad one.

M4 - ohk, the least favoured city. the lowest on ur list
Me- Bareilly.

M3- I love Bareilly.
Me - Gave my reasons.

M2 - Have you prepared anything specific for this interview?
Me - Sir, I read newspaper and try to keep myself aware about the current affairs and important happenings.

M2 - what is exchange rate for Singapore dollar?
Me - Sir, I dont know, I can guess. Probably around 38-40.

M2 what is exchange rate for Australian dollar?
me- Sir, i dont know.

M2- Take a guess.
me - 25-30...?

M3 - that was 10 years ago.
Me - ohk sir. probably then it might have increased now.

M4 - what is for Yen? or for Yuan??
me - Sir, as I said, I dont know. I can only guess. I know for dollar and pound but not all these.

M2 - When was the fourth five year plan launched?
Me - (After thinking) Sir, the first one was launched in 1951, so if we calculate then probably in the late 60s the fourth one was launched. But I think there was some disruption for some years during that time. I dont exactly know the nature but somehow it was affected and then fourth five year plan came.

M2 - Why did I ask you the fourth one and not the first? What was the importance of it?
Me - Sir did it have something to do with Mr. Lal Bahadur Shastri's death?

M2 - No, it had nothing to do with any death.
Me - Sir, during that time I think Green Revolution happened and the war against Pakistan so probably these things affected the policies during that time.

M2 - do u trade in the sensex?
Me- No Sir.

M2 - which company has the highest value? (He said something about face value and the money which u will get upon selling it or buying it)
me - Sir, I am not sure. Is it reliance..?

M2 - No it isnt.

M1 (he was quiet all along. Now he speaks loudly)- We are not playing a guessing game here. Either you know. Or you dont know.
Me - Sir, I dont know.

M1 - tell me one topic, any topic on which I can ask you questions. AAnd hopefully you will be able to answer it.
me - Sir, as I said in my introduction, I love cricket. You can ask me any question on it.

M1 - (Nearly threw my form out of his hand and shouted) - Do u think I will take you in Management, just because you know cricket...?
me- (A little taken aback) Sir, I have done managerial work at college level, u can ask how. . . . .

M1 - I am not interested. Get out!! (shouted)

I didnt move. I looked at other panelists. 5 seconds of silence.

M1 - You can leave.
Me - Thank you sir!

Phew!!
I have no idea what just happened there. I was in shock for some time. Drove in that state to my home, thankfully without any accident. I understand it was a stress interview but then saying "Get Out!" is not what you expect.
I think he did it on purpose but still it was a shock.

Though I would still hope to make it and wont count myself out. Think positive, be optimistic!!

Misc Details-
It was a wonderfully organised process. Handled very well. Student coordinators were too good. A good experience.

Surprises(if any) add Overall Experience-
HAHAHA.. U know what happened above. The only thing being I was the last one. So had to wait a long long time.

Also, I was the odd one out. Rest everyone had chilled interviews and general discussion, nothing even remotely related to what happened to me.

Verdict - It was a ROADIES INTERVIEW!! Lets c now..

GD- Topic: Banning of stags in pubs is a good idea.
My experience: 10 mins for 12 ppl proved too less. Got only 1 proper entry..
Not very happy with my performance.:-(

PI:
3 panel members. 2 male profs (P1), (P2) and a lady prof (L).
All looked very cool and intimidating people, specially L. I immediately knew that i had to keep a cool head here. Blabbing any and everything would be a very stupid thing to do...
Settled in a seat. they were seated in a kind of 120 degree arc around me.

P1:So, Naveen...electronics engineer and working in TCS...
Me: a slight correction on my part, i have resigned.
P1:ohh..reason???
Me: Sir i didnt like the IT work. It ws a fall back plan after i didn't get thru my IIT KGP and IIT Kanpur interviews last time around. (wanted them to know that i have done it once )
also i have cleared the IBPS, and have got myself selected as Probationary officer in Union Bank.
P1 and P2 give encouraging nods.
P1: Good...so then how did u prepare from the last time around?
Me: Sir i realized one thing. that whoever sits here(indicating my chair) is more or less suitable and an able candidate. its about how i customize myself to suit ur requirements better.
(P1 and P2 nod appreciatively..)
Me: so sir, i tried to switch to a domain that puts me in an economic scenario...
P1: ok, so whats the difference between monetary and fiscal policy..
Me: Sir the monetary policy is made by the central bank of a country, RBI in India and fiscal is by the Govt of India's finance ministry.
P1: correct, so RBI is not affiliated to the govt?
Me: it is sir but,
P1: its an autonomous body..
Me:yes sir..
P1: ok so how does the monetary policy control inflation and other things.
Me: Sir there are instruments like CRR, SLR ,repo...
P1: yes..so the CRR was recently slashed, why was that??
Me: Sir, to inject more money in the market...
P1: good...yes, so (to L) mam, ur turn..
L: Naveen, u sed u left TCS becoz u did not like it..what didn't u like..
Me: blah blah abt private horrors..
L: ok, so what would u rather do??
Me: told something that points to management..
L: right, so what is ur favorite subject in Engg
Me: (gulp, gaya main to) Ma'am Electronic Devices.
(It has happened b4 people mistake Elec Devices as Devices that use electronics)
L: So, whats ur favorite gadget..
Me: I have a laptop..thats my favorite..
L: no, i mean something that holds ur fancy.
Me: a smartphone.
L: y?
Me: told something abt apps and features.
L: no no, u r not understanding, i want ur technical opinion.
Me:Oh...
L:what abt a smartphone fascinates u??
Me: MA'am i would say that the level of integration fascinates me...
Having things very huge in something this small. for eg, very few ppl know that a GPS uses Einstein's theory of general relativity.
L:(smiles a furtive smile)...ok
P1: (to P2)..sir?
P2: ok, what do u know of books?? Wht do u read?
Me: sir i'll be honest, i read only fiction.
P2: have u heard of peter drucker..
Me: i have heard..yes sir, but really, i don't really go for these books.
P2: mentions some other names..
Me: no sir..
P2: ok what qualities do u think an outstanding manager shud have?
P1: remember, outstanding, we dont want the ordinary ones..
Me: Sir, i would go for anticipation as the first trait.
For eg, when Steve jobs took up as Apple CEO, it was in dumps.
P2: when was that?
Me: err...(had the year 1997 in mind) sir late 1990s..
P2:thats correct..then what was apple's financial condition then?
Me: sir it had a very low market share in terms of the MacOS systems...
P2: no, i dont want technical stuff, i want to know the exact financial position..
Me: sir, i wont be knowing that...
P1: ok, tell me ur one strength
Me: Sir i never say die...
P1: and ur one weakness..
Me: (got a bit cheeky)...sir, the same...i don't know when to die...
An uproar straight away...
P2:(chuckling) not the philosophical one...give us a proper one..
L: no, its ok.....
P1, and L: ok, thats it..thank u...
Me: Thank u so much sirs and Mam..

Special mention: the student support is too good....
the process is very smooth and enriching.
Verdict: awaited (despite poor GD)...:)

Dear Friend,
I was having my interview today only. and most important that the same was my panel also.

And it went exactly the same way you have experienced. esp about Vinayshill Gautam Sir. in my case also. he was quiet all during the interview and started asking question at the end and with the same amplitude. same stress interview. i can understand what you want to convey here

now after reading ur post , i am quite relaxed just because its the same strategy of that panel.

Friend either we are through or we arn't.

keep fingers crossed

Okay so here goes my GD,PI experience of DMS,IITD... Wont benefit Puys this year but would surely benefit call getters next year..

GD Topic- Mayawati's Statues are symbol of Schedule caste Empowerment
Time duration- 2 mins to think + 11 mins to discuss
GD Experience -
A very different and slightly sentimental topic considering other topic were about Indian Democracy, Lokpal etc... Made decent entries right through the GD.. When the panelists i made a statement which was as good as conclusion of discussion giving both +ves and -ves... So kinda lucky
And it became repetitive at times with people trying to make same points giving various eg and was not exactly a fish market but very similar at couple of points but thats expected given the air time is less than a min/person...

The GD was in conference kind hall.. It felt as if all business delegates had gathered for a high profile meeting Also taking into consideration how other GD were conducted...

Our was the last GD and panel for GD,PI are different...

PI Experience-
No. Of panel members- 4 (3 Male + 1 Female)
Interview experience-
I was amongst the last ones to be interviewed.. May be couple of them after me..
It started with initial exchange of pleasantries....
The 4 panelists would be referred as M1,M2,M3,F1

M3 - What is your name?
Me - Told...
M3 - (my name was written as surname-name-fathers name) So is your surname any title?
Me - Told.. And mentioned thats how it was mentioned in Xth certi and even in CAT scorecard and thats what was mentioned even in instructions
M3 - So whats your name?
Me - told clearly my name, fathers name and my surname (interesting start :lookround::lookround:)
M3 - Okay no issues thats fine.. (ab itna clarify karne ke baad bol rahe ho its fine:biggrin::biggrin:) Tell me about yourself
Me - Told.. Mentioned about being part of NSS Council of college
M3 - isn't NSS suppose to compulsory activity?
Me - told no sir, its ECA in our college and was a part of council..
M3 - Asked about college and which university is it affiliated to?
Me - Told...
M3 - You say your hobbies are cricket, whats the rank of India in tests?
Me - told..
M3 - in ODI's..
Me - Told
M3 - What o you think is reason for drop in rankings and performances?
Me - told.. (now this is something i can talk for hours and hours)
M3 - Recent news of politics in team and media reports suggesting rifts, whats ur view on that??
Me -:grin::grin: bring it on.. gave answer like they give in Cricket Extra or like Cricket Analyst on TV and when you talk cricket in interviews its just fun...
now the female comes in
F1 - What about ads our cricketers go for?
Me - (Arey waah kya panle hai, jo mere maan hai vo hi Q pooch rahe hai) told again like an analyst to be specific bit like Harsha Bhogle... Mentioned the word cramped schedule
M2 comes in on this
M2 - What do you mean by cramped schedule? Who decides it?
Me - told about tour after tour, Billionaires Cricket Control Control Board of India (BCCI) Told about lack of preparation and stuff
M2 - What do you mean by lack of preparation??
Me - (full on maza aa raha tha, cricket ke baare jo poochna hai pooch lo, raat ke 3 baje enthu rahunga) again gave dates and figures related to india's schedule and other stuff....
Done about cricket.. Seems they realised he is completed Addicted to Cricket
M2 - Studying in final year whats your project?
Me - told.. its related to analysis of financial data using ANN.. So Q on same and handled pretty well.. Q's asked by all panel members except the one who started the interview
F1,M3 said its a very nice project and pretty unique idea if i achieved the desired results..
M3 - Okay Thank you and all the best for your project and for your future..
A nice end to my 7th Interview this season :-)

Misc Details-
Stayed at Campus for about 20 hours and was simply in awe of the hugeness and beauty of red structures at @IITD.. The campus to me seemed to be atleast twice that of IITB campus.. Though B is more greener than D.. And Delhiites seem to love Red colour a lot.. Even visited FMS which was red and so is Red Fort.. Hostel fcacilities were pretty decent.. Mess food too was not as bad as said by Chetan Bhagat in FPS... And we stayed in new hostel which was a 8-floor hostel.. pretty big considering other hostels..

BTech guys seem to have their end sems, so got a feel of how frenzy the atmosphere is @IIT during the exams... Roamed around the campus after i/v and completely exhausted after roaming half the campus as its that huge.. From main gate to hostel is 1.6Km and hostel to DMS is same... Even visited Delhi University, FMS, Qutab Minar, Rugby Sevens CWG Venue watched a footsole finals under floodlights...
All in all a decent GD, good PI and good trip to Delhi!

Next Stop MDI, 6th April!

Verdict : Converted!

Dear Aspirants,

Greetings from Department of Management Studies, IIT Delhi!

It gives us immense pleasure to launch the March edition of the e-mouthpiece of DMS IIT Delhi - REYANSH.

Based on the feedback for the past two editions, we have made some changes to the magazine. The biggest focus this time around has been on the design & the look of the magazine. We have also started 3 new sections in the magazine, a discussion board where our students comment on some latest topic, a book review section which includes detailed review of two books & a fun section having a fun element to supplement the normal MBA gyaan.

With our cover story, "Not Just Another Brick In the Wall", we have tried to pay a humble tribute to Rahul Dravid.

The featured articles, "Building India - Developing Synergy between Self, Informal and Mainstream Economy" along with "Port Develpment in Gujarat - A model for PPP" will surely be a value add in terms of knowledge and in a lighter vein, there is "The Dancers of Dawn", the memoirs of the first step in DMS and then finally comes "No gas, Please" to tickle your funny bone !

The highlight of this issue is the special coverage of Building India Inc.12, the annual business summit of DMS, IIT Delhi which witnessed the gracious presence of eminent personalities like MP,Rajya Sabha - Mr. Mani Shankar Aiyar, world-renowned motivational speaker - Mr. Shiv Khera and the Nawab of Najafgarh - Mr. Virender Sehwag.

Hope you enjoy reading it just as much as we did making it.!!

Hi......So finally my GD/PI of Part Time MBA done after long wait of 4 hour on 14th April.

Let me explain about my GD

As usual most of the GD turns into Fish Market and so was here also coz we people even have loads of antiquates but we forget everything when its comes to fight for seat on basis of discussion on a topic which is rarely known by anyone of our group member but everybody want to speak whatevers comes in there mind and want to overpower each other.
Before my GD we heard that 4 batch already made fish market and so we were warned and suggested by coordinators not to repeat in your turn.
After that learning I asked and requested to my group members to make GD as peaceful discussion and we will start one by one and will give chance to others to speak and will not fight and will not make self centered discussion.

Topic : After high production, quality and services waves, how american economy will drive in future ?
We were given 5 min to think about then topic.

So our GD started by a very gentle person who had 4-5 year work exp and was looking pretty mature then next and then nxt but when it came of 3 person then, i think that incredible guy didn't listen to me when i was requesting to others before GD and that guy lost his emotion and continue his speech as obama, then nxt person tried to overcome him then both started discussion as only both of them are in hall, them on that moment i stuck them and started my point by swiftly holding both of them.
Thank GOD, then again one by one we start but i think that 3rd guy felt hurt and again tried to fight in same manner and 2 other people also joined. then 2 of us tried to ask them to let other people speak and then evybdy gave thr point.
10 min. was already completed 4 people havn't speak even a single word. so panel member rang bell and asked those ppl who didn't speak anything in whole discussion.

Total Grp member was 14.

Thank GOD, discussion went peacefully and we were able to conclude it at the end.

Now here comes my Interview Details.......

Just 5 min before GD i got to know that one of the guy also came for GD/PI from my company deptt. and most shocking was he is that we are working in same office and same work. Then same GD group.

Again shocking, when time came for interview then I got to know that both of us had to face same interview panel and one after another.

Ans. As I am working with power sector and with core technical power management group so the Technology Management will help me out to work with better skills in future to make power sector more efficient.

Q3. You are still doing work of management then why you need it to do MBA ?
