Hi Puys,

This is a big dilemma .. All those facing this problem .. Please share views ..

lets us look at both the colleges on individual factors:-

SIBM Pune vs NMIMS (Core Prog) Mumbai

1) Brand Name
- Equal
2) Overall Ranking - Equal (referring to PG ranking 2012 - both the colleges is sharing the 16th position)
3) Faculty - Almost Same
4) MBA/PGDM - Both the colleges offers an MBA degree. (NM university and Symbiosis University)
5) Fees - NM is 15 lakhs (12 lakhs + hostel charges + food) vs SIBM Pune 10 lakhs. Here SIBM Pune has a huge advantage.
6) Avg Placement Salary - NMIMS has an average of 13.04 lakhs and SIBM P has an average of 11.5 lakhs. here NM has an advantage. (pls dont forget that the batch size of NM is double of SIBM P yet the average is higher).
7) Campus life - here SIBM Pune has an advantage. it has a state of art hostel and campus. NM does not have a campus of its own. it is using the Mithibai College's 7th, 8th and 9th floor to conduct classes.
8) City exposure - here NMIMS has an advantage as its located in the heart of Bombay whereas SIBM is around 30 mins away from Pune City.
9) Crowd - Equal, as both colleges conduct their own exams and only the toppers of these exams get the prestigious admissions.
10) Companies and positions offered - Almost similar.
11) ROI - SIBM has a better ROI as fees is lesser and avg salary is similar.
12) Seats or competition for placement - NM has 360 seats whereas SIBM has 180 seats. Here SIBM has a huge advantage. We must not forget, getting into a b school is just the warm up for a bull fight. Inside a b school the real fight starts. For every company there is fierce competition and everyone in there is as good as you are... so the chances of converting a lucrative job is higher in SIBM.
13) Alumni - Equal.
14) Legacy - NM was established in 1981 and SIBM Pune in 1978. So almost the same legacy of 32-35 years.
15) Seat Booking amount - SIBM P 4,21,300 and NMIMS 6,00,000
16) Amount to be deducted in case of withdrawal - SIBM P 30,000 and NMIMS 1,000.

VERDICT - On paper both the colleges look almost equal but the decision of joining NMIMS or SIBM Pune, again depends upon an individual as to what he/she wants to take out of the program, what is the expectation and what can be achieved within those 2 years and beyond.....

* pls. do not malign any college and pls. keep your personal preferences to yourself. the objective is not to compare which college is better or worse but just to understand the strengths of both the colleges so that we can take an informed decision.

NMIMS is famous for its marketing.... i know this for a fact because my friends who are studying there...

An laterals/PPOs etc again depends upon the company, individual and the economy of India in that year...this year all the colleges have got almost 40-50% less PPOs compared to last year... so did not wanted to include these factors..

Guys .. Does it really big NMIMS a big advantage being in Mumbai when compared to SIBM which is on the outskirts of Pune?

i thnk SIBM.. coz i went to GD PI process of both.. must say dat d arrangements done by NMIMS wr nowhere in comparison to SIBM. d latter ws great! n i feel dis hugely reflects d kind of lyf v r gonna face in d college.. i wud say SIBM.. bt dats jst a personal opinion.
i dont think that a right decision making factor..... we must not forget that NM does not have a campus and thats y they are facing such challenges...

so going by your logic... if tomorrow IIM A is not able to serve you well in the GD/PI process due to some constraints and some local XYZ college offers you a garland of flowers, you will take that college and not IIM A???

again depends upon the individual.... a student who is from a rural town may want to experience a city life...which he will get in NM but not in SIBM... he might think its an important factor for his personality development .... sometimes even we think that lets do MBA in US/UK...why ??? just to get some international exposure...huge companies conduct their trainings abroad just for such reasons....

It may not be important for you but may be for someone else...

well.. as i said, dats a personal opinion.. coz if i hd to take d decision, i wud actually go by dat factor.. m in one of d NITs.. n i wud gladly exchange it for a college which is d second best in my state.. again, its a personal opinion.. :)
@ayushbhalotia Agreed .. this depends frm person to person .. wat if we consider the companies? .. does NM have an edge dere?
@sonam1807 : But it also depends hugely on wat spcl u luk at .. nd as far as the campus and arrangements go .. its pretty enticing but dnt let that be the ONLY factor .. :)

i dont think so... attached the placement report of both SIBM P and NMIMS Mumbai....IMO its equal but yes, due to the lower batch size, the ratio of conversion is better in SIBM

Hi guys I really appreciate the quality of the discussion.. i personally have to make this choice..(I don't have any other calls this year) I've got an offer from sibmp and judging by the way my CD/PI of nmims went, i hope to convert that too.. Considering all the above discussed points btw the colleges, we are of the opinion that it comes down to certain individual preferences. this is my case,

Profile : 40 months work ex at Infosys,
I want to come back to IT field consultancy / pure consultancy, as I want my work ex to matter in my placements. (preferably lateral placements)
Between Mumbai or pune city I dont have any preferences, what maters is that is the number/quality of companies (IT or consultancy ones) that come for placements and the job profile offered (suited for 3+yrs / experienced ppl).
For choosing the specialization at NM I can go for IT, but at Sibm i don't know which one I should take(i am not into HR)
I sure did love sibm campus and there is more potential for student interaction as its a residential one, but what matters at the end is the job we will be securing, and i need to know which college has more potential to meet my needs and i am willing to make certain scarifies (read sibm hostel life, campus .. / mumbai city..) for that.

It would be really helpful if you guys could share your thoughts. TIA.

@KMohan45 --- well what u r asking here requires a very in depth understanding of both the colleges.... IMO to make this decision get hold of some students of both the colleges/ professors and talk to them....since we are also aspirants, we wont be able to give a well informed advice in this particular issue....

I have given the placement reports of both the colleges...check it yourself to get an idea about the IT placements etc...

@ayushbhalotia I thought so, your good dude.. Yea I am going thru the reports too.
@ayushbhalotia I think you have covered everything in your first post which gives SIBM the edge. So for now, I am with SIBM...
@huzefa5055 --- what is the seat booking amount in SIBM P... for NM 6 lakhs needs to paid to book the seat...
@ayushbhalotia Rs. 4,21,300/- ..
