My profile & expectations:
telecom engg. with 20 months IT workex. interested in picking up both fin & systems electives hence seek flexibilty in the curriculum, would like to be placed laterally in an IT firm with emphasis on fin/insurance OR as an IT guy with a fin consultancy/bank/insurance firm. i am located in mumbai.

& for gods sake plz dont convert this to an institute bashing thread!
expecting guidance.....

Jas

Many people would like to be in your footsteps dude!!

Well, both are in Mumbai
both are famous for specialization in systems & ops

SOM will give you an IIT tag
NITIE will have a diverse student batch.. not just engineers

Placments are similar... just that SOM has some foreign placements as well.. no idea about NITIE..

Ultimately it boils down to your personal choice... both are good schools.. rank among the best non-IIM colleges... !!

!!

My friend, i agree with your every statement except the one that i have quoted....
NITIE is a batch of just engineers...there will be no diversity :whatthat:

Personally, i feel that if ur engineering is from an IIT , go for NITIE
but if ur from a non-IIT background, go for IIT-SOM as it will give an IIT in ur profile:x

Tough Decision to be made surely!!!

As pointed out earlier, there is very little to differentiate between the two. Not much idea about placements, but I believe mostly at par. SJMSOM may have better infrastructure due to the IIT thing. IIT brand again may be a little advantageous but again it is not much.

As far as Specialisation is concerned....again not much to choose....So buddy...it's up to you to decide where you want to move...

So happy decision making

NITIE too has only engg & this yr 8 out of 92 got foreign placements.
Both DONT have student ex pgms. Both have an entreprenuer cell i guess (matters to me).
Both have similar campuses although SJMSOMs infrastructure might be better.
NITIEs lineage & alumini go a long way back whereas SJMSOM is relatively new.

Hi jas...

Go for nitie....

reasons...

1. More exp in the field of management education as compared to SJMSOM
2. More known for the operations and systems. And in case of other specialisation both are more or less same. So these two specialisation puts it on edge.
3. If i am not wrong NITIE has 6 months of total industy exposure.. This loved the most and is most unique also... i guess SJMSOM does not have this... (i am not very sure...)
4. With talk with some of friends at NITIE they will have foriegn placements also from this year... one of my friend is going to barclay singapore this summers from nitie...

In between i have also mailed a very gd thread from PG to ur office mail id... which compares many B schools.. yet to read in detail but u will get info frm there also

will keep on posting as and when i find more...

Regards
Mohit

But may be in next 1 - 2 year SJMSOM can boast of pretty good alumni...after all all in spite of being relatively new, it has shown pretty good placements in the past.

If you are looking for operations & SCM stuff then go for NITIE.....else join me at SOM.

I guess tht the dude who raised this query has got thru IIM B, judging from his avatar

so guess this can be locked now

Hi,

See the main point is not abt the individual who got into.. Its abt many ppl who are still facing this problem of decision making.... so no point in following individuals... follow the theme....

PS: In between i know the person who started this thread personally, so when it was started he was really facing the problem... which can be the case with millions now also.... so enjoy...

I agree, but the point is that such discussions are never ending. We will run into 10's of pages with views and counterviews, and nothing substantial will surface.

I feel the best thing is to contact the ppl studying in those colleges. There are loads of them on this great forum who would give an unbiased, professional view... I for one, got honest and sincere feedbacks from seniors in MDI n IIM K when I was faced wid the same dilemma

Teaching: IITSOM has managed to get some good faculy.
Money: NITIE

ENCORE as they call it ...
I've found myself in a lovely confusion

I have converts from SJMSOM and NITIE .. I cannot make a call :(

ps.:m from non IIT bckgrnd so the IIT tag lures me.
pps : but then comes the dilemma regarding fees. A difference 0f 6lacs is
worth noting
ppps: I have a work-ex of 7 months
pppps: my heart says IIT but mind is in favour of NITIE.
ppppps:have 13 days to make a final call
pppppps: inclination towards finance
ppppppps: not sure abt the facilies and infra btw the two

Inputs from puys wud be really helpful
