@ All,
Anyone here going to Nepal from Mumbai/ Pune ? Can we discuss travel plans & hoteling ?
sir, i am planning to write cfa level 1 in june 09. The information that i recieved from the site www.cfainstitute.org/ is i have to pay 930 US dollars ( inc registeration & exam fee). so i have a doubt ? The fee include the courier charges of books that they sends us or i have to pay extra bucks?? if extra one then how much ?? could you plz guide me. thanks in advance GSS
Hi,
Since you are planning for Dec'09 you have plenty of time @ your hand... you can start studying now..
You can get books from the following location:
at laxmi zerox centre. opp mithibai college Vileparle west Mumbai .Mr. Paresh 9819024256 Level 1 notes for Rs 1850/-
The above mentioned are the xerox notes.. So if you have really decided the give the exam then you can register for the exam and CFA will send you there own books... Those books are really good but they are lenghty... But since you have one year's time you can study from CFA notes.. Schweser notes are like preparation notes or digest... which we used to get in schools and colleges.... gives the entire concept in a compressed manner...

a quesion for those who have appeared in CFA exam Is pan card a valid government id for this exam , as actually its issued by IT dept a division of GOI i am appearing from Nepal , and pan card wont get you a clearance from the airport , passport , voter id would and there are a few others best enquired from nepal embassy in delhi
But dont know about CFA , for indian people , would pan card do ,
Please those have given exam at the centres , enlighten us
I have not appeared for the exam yet, but I will try to answer your query with what I ahve heard.
Logically, PAN card should work. But, just to be on the safer side keep 2-3 Govt. ids. License/ voting card/ passport. Anyhow, I have heard this, you need passport to enter any airport in India. Also, while traveling to Nepal you don't need passport, just to be on the safer side, you should carry one every time you fly to a foreign country.
If you don't have a passport, just ask someone if it is really necessary to enter in airports.
hey all long time since my last post I read an article some time back that the exam is not gonna take place in india in december. Sad piece of news. All the Best to all those who are taking the exam outside of india.
As far as the PAN card thing is concerned. I took both my level I and II in bombay so wont be able to comment on whether PAN would be acceptable. In bombay they were accepting it. Try to get an ID which the govt of india symbol clearly on it. That should work i think. Passport would be the best. Else voter id should work too. Now that i am over with my summers, I'll be more frequent with my posts. shoot in ur queries, if there are any...
The posts earlier made are really informative. At present I am pursuing Balchelors in Commerce. I am in the final year. I was considering of doing the CFA course post graduation.
The following are my queries:
1. Is it possible to pursue the course alongside work? 2. If yes, what sort of work shall corroborate the study? I mean what profile? 3. Is it feasible to do the CFA and work in India?
one more thing.. can i use the study mat of the previous CFA exam... say if i plan to give it in june 2010, can i use the material for dec 09.... what i mean to say is that does the material change for every exam?

Hi,
1. Yes it is very much possible. In fact the CFA institute recommends at least 250 hours of study for each level, which should easily be manageable alongside work. Most people pursue CFA alongside their MBA or other degrees and jobs.
2. Most people start with CFA to move into finance, though it is not as easy as it sounds(as you might have read in previous innumerous posts). So assumption is that the person is from a non-finance profile while he is pursuing CFA (which is perfectly fine). But if you can manage a finance/business analysis kind of profile, nothing better than that.
3. Yes it is. Many opportunities are there, but mostly in Mumbai. There are Investment banks, Brokerage firms etc. But outside india, specifically in the US the opportunities are many.
4. When you register with the CFA institute for an exam, they provide you with the study material. So you really wouldnt have to study outdated material. And yes, there are always slight changes to the curriculum every year/every exam. So it is better to study with the updated material(even though there would not be huge differences in the curricullum).
