I have a query about the TI BA II Plus Calculators. The BA II Plus and BA II Plus Profesional are available for 2450 and 3850 respectively with bill at Nehru Place, Delhi. Are these prices fine or am i being overcharged?

Also, in case somebody knows the exact location where I can get the calculator with bill at a cheaper rate, please lemme know.

Finally the long journey that started bout 2 yrs back on PG ended this week with clearing the L3 exam...

I was once very active on this thread but now work commitments and other issues have made me quite infrequent over here .

So my apologies in advance since I won't be answering any PMs or queries ,I guess there are now enough active to do that.

Finally as one of my last post some advice on my experience on the CFA exams:

1. CFA is a simple exam so try to keep simple, there is no need to delve into advanced theory you may do some topics for your own knowledge but this is not required for the exam.

2. CFA tests breath and NOT depth so it is far more important to complete the courser and re revise it rather get stuck at concepts ,if you do not understand something at first skip it and get back later when you have time left otherwise leave it..

3. And finally for all the 3 exams I just stuck to the Schewser notes, never gave any practice tests or did anything beyond them. The CFA book I feel are useless ,had to take them in L3 but didnt study from any on them .
I feel you just cannot complete the course with such voluminous material.

Anyways signing out for the time being ...

Best of luck to all future aspirants...

Rajat

rajatb, thanks for the lovely post and we are happy to have u back, seems like all the exams,be it college,or competitive, are governed by the same rule of equal study+equal revision.....thanks for taking your time out.

Just one query, is stalla as good as schweser? out of the two is there something like which is better? are they on equal platforms? So even for level 3 exams you stuck with schweser notes and did not go for CFA books??? was it tough managing it with your job??

can you say something more about level 3 Rajat..... and yes since u are an MBA from SJMSOM,and thus have a little background in finance(alot i shud say), but as for we ppl straight out of engg college, what would u suggest, go for the stalla course material which is more elaborate or go for the schweser...???

rajatb is an engineer from IITB Not with SJMSOM!
So you are having same background like him

Even I am checking all the sites since morning but can't really find any news on the crucial judgement which was scheduled for today...

Even on the CFA web site there is no update regarding this matter...

Lets hope that the decision comes in our favour...

Thanks,

Hey.. what happened to yesterday's hearing..

I tried searching a lot but could not find anything in this regard...

Does anybody have any idea as to what the hearing was or whether the hearing was deffered.. because there is no news what so ever...

Hi Friends,

The hearing for the crucial case pending has been scheduled for 29th September from 25th August....

So i guess we need to wait for one more month to know the status of test center as India...

Lets hope for the best and wait for one more month..

Buddy .. No news updates regarding that hearing as of now ..
Its very surprising that TV media as well as newspapers have totally ignored that ...

dude, i think u have misjudged the numbers.. its approx 40000 for the first level.. check on the CFA site..
hi akshat that is indeed incredible that you have cleared the L2
so could you please share some insights on your preparation startegies for the L2:
1)what course material did u use(like stalla scheweser) or did u rely completely on books
2) how did you balance it with your job or were you preparing for it full time,
3)what other things should people keep in mind while preparing for the level 2 exams, some insights that u thing might be useful to share with us
4)in what time frame did u prepare for the Level 2
5)so post level 2,is it truly proving to be a career enhancement thing if you are already in the finance industry after ur MBA or some other degree or are you looking for a job post level 2 and how is it proving for you

congrats once again akshat

My apologies for being so late in responding. Things are moving really quickly here at Lucknow so its hard to log on to pagalguy.
Well its my 1st term at IIM L so i took the test before joining this place. I was working when i took the test. Both level 1 and 2

I would agree with what rajatb said. CFA tests breadth and not depth. Please keep this in mind that all the topics should be covered before the test..
course material used : Schweser. I wanted to use the CFA books but had no time with work. Could hardly study for 100 hours / 3 weeks.
But ideally one should put in at least 2 months/ 200 hours for any level.

Another important aspect is that , people should be able to use the calculators properly. Be thorough with the functions in the calculator. Makes life a lot easier.

I didnt take any tests/online tests.
Level 2 is FSA heavy, so be thorough with that topic. the advantage i had is that i had prepared very well for level 1. So i could link those concepts with level 2 concepts. that made things easier for me.

I am sure i'll be able to leverage CFA during my summers and final placements at IIMs. It gives you a differentiating factor.

Thanks for all the wishes
Unlike rajatb, I aint leaving ths thread for good. So fire in your queries and please be patient as the replies may take 4-5 days.

cheers

dude, i followed schweser and only schweser for L2. I had no time to do any other thing. Ideally i wud have used the schweser pro software. It has a good question bank of arnd 5000 questions.

topics one should focus on for CFA level 2 are : FSA, Ethics, Derivatives (especially exchange rate and credit derivatives)
If u can score in these, the rest are a piece of cake.

chalo , more later, gotta run

cya all

Hi akshat

congrats for clearing L2 .I took L1 in june 2008 and couldnt clear since I fared badly in Quant and Ethics ...I guess I failed to cover entire portion or rather failed to remember the concepts when it mattered .I have regd for dec 2008 exam , but I am really finding it hard to remember every concept from all 10 areas .I have again started to read from the begining and hope to keep a month before exam for revision .It would be great if you could give any thoughts abt my preparation also feel free to differ. How did it work for you ??
