"CFA" designation is still valid as ever. Just that CFAI has lost its exclusive right to use CFA designation. This, however, is still under discussion. Right to operate in India is however granted to CFAI by Supreme Court. (Not very sure. Request to double-check this).

Having said that, the ever going courtroom battle is a nagging problem.

i would request you to wait and watch for a while. Request our CFA-gurus (aka Rajat, etc.) to post some encouraging words. ??:

is it really not worth????? then should i need an additional examinstead of that..?
some of them take up ca, thn few icwa, etc...
i really dont know importance of this....

Contrary to what is being popularly being hyped in the media, CFAI has niether lost its trademark in india and nor ICFAI has been allowed to use its designation in USA.

Read the following:

Has CFA Institute lost its trademark rights in India?

Not at all. Contrary to some misleading news reports, CFA Institute trademark rights to the CFA and Chartered Financial Analyst brands have been recognized in India by the Delhi High Court. Further, the Delhi High Court issued an interim injunction ordering ICFAI and its affiliated Council of Chartered Financial Analysts to stop using CFA Institute trademarks. The Deputy Registrar of Trade Marks did recently determine that a trademark registration issued to CFA Institute for the CFA brand must be republished due to an error by the Trade Marks Registry. CFA Institute has numerous trademark applications on file with the Trade Marks Registry, and CFA charterholders from CFA Institute are free to use the CFA and Chartered Financial Analyst marks throughout India.

Is there an injunction against ICFAI in the United States?

Yes. The 1998 injunction issued by a United States federal court was reinstated on 4 September 2007 (PDF). In May 2007, the injunction was vacated because it appeared to the judge that he did not have personal jurisdiction over ICFAI at the time of the original judgment in 1998. CFA Institute filed a motion to reconsider that decision, and the judge agreed with our arguments and reinstated the 1998 injunction against ICFAI. As a result, ICFAI, including its members and students, is required to abide by its 1995 agreement to stop using CFA Institute trademarks in the United States.

It is very much recognized, and as the gurus here say is the best qualification a finance aspirant can pursue. Well this is what I meant in my previous post. Sorry!! if my intention wasn't evident in my sarcasm.

so what happened today? any news?

From CFA Institute Home
14 September 2007

As you know, by order of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), we are currently prohibited from operating the CFA Program in India. We filed a writ petition with the Delhi High Court to resume operation of the CFA Program in India and final arguments began on 6 September 2007. We learned today that arguments will continue on Wednesday, 19 September. As you may know, the final deadline to register for the December 2007 Level I CFA exam is Monday, 17 September.

Because we are in day-to-day proceedings before the Delhi High Court, and we hope for a decision from the court before the end of September, CFA Institute is indefinitely extending the registration period for the December 2007 exam. If the Delhi High Court permits CFA Institute to resume operation of the CFA Program, we will open registration to candidates in India.

If there is no decision by 1 October, on that date CFA Institute will make a further announcement regarding the deadline for the December 2007 exam. As before, we continue to work toward a resolution of this difficult situation, and we appreciate your patience and understanding. Please continue to check this site for updates.

Puys,

We have something to cheer about at least for the time being and to keep our hopes alive.

Regards,
RKA

Its amazing how CFAI handles these matters so professionally. High time the Indian institutes learn something from such world class instis! Come what may, the candidate interest is at the forefront.

Cheers!

@kk
yup i very much agree with u... they r ready to postpone it indefinitely for indians, even if it leaves them with a very short time to arrange things here for the exam... student interest tops the list of priorities... it is this kind of service makes us forget the huge fees (well huge for us indians) with ease. Long live CFAI.

Ya, look at last June when things were just going out of hand. CFAI ensured that its Indian candidates took the exam after so much toil and hard work. They arranged for centers in other countries, constantly communicating and making the candidate's life easier. And finally made it possible to conduct the exam in India itself.....no mean achievement considering the slow legal procedure and Babuism widespread in our country!

Cheers!
