Need some Opinions on CFA

Hi... This is Ashwin from hyderabad... I've been a passive member of this community for a long time.... I have a few doubts n it wud be great if neyone can clear them...

I'm an engineer... interested in doin my mba in finance in a few years from now...wrote cat last year... but ended up with a 97.5.... no plans of giving it this year.... I'm plannin to give my cfa L1 this year if its possible.... i've been working as a trainee analyst in a stock broking firm in Hyd for the past two months... my area of interest is equity research.... my doubt is that... if i manage to complete L1 this dec and hopefully L2 by next june... is it possible to get a job in a reputed company as a junior analyst...since by then i would have one year of experience along with cfa L2... thnx a lot if neybody can clear this for me!!!!

redash4u,

I am also looking to gain some finance experience and am just wondering if anyone would take an engineer for a finance-related position. I am an engineer with 3 years software development experience. I too plan to do MBA in finance some time later and am thinking of ways to get some experience in this field before going for an MBA.

How did you manage to get trainee analyst position in your firm inspite of being an engineer ? Did you have any finance-related qualifications by that time ?

I am ready to quit my Senior Software Engineer postion and join a finance-related position, even if it involves compromise in the salary I draw. Your thoughts on this would be very helpful.

Level II done ...

The CFAI has been debarred frrom operting in India.
hence the ppl who were comtemplating of doing their CFA from CFAI r in the docks.
So whts the way out ??
CFAI doesnt seem to be too bothered with the case against it at Delhi High Court..

Any suggestions NE1 ??

First of all is this a statement or a Question. If it is the former I fail to understand how you are able to arrive at such a conclusion .Did you attend the hearings or did the CFAI ppl call to up to appraise you of the fact that they are not bothered about the situation.
Since you are an old member I would not have expected such a thing ,a newbie coming and making such comments is understandable but someone with 170+ posts is not.

Hi, I am an MBA 1st year student..I want to do my CFA level 1...I have a specific query..but please excuse me if it has earlier been asked..100 pages and I found this thread only a coupla mins back!

If I take my CFA in June or December? When will the results be available?

Basically, the information about the number of days from date of exam that the results become available, would help me decide if I need to take the CFA in June 2008 or December 2008!

ET says: "SC dismisses ICFAI's plea against CFA Institute"
They go on to say "The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed a petition filed by Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India University seeking to restrain US-based CFA Institute from operating in the country. " so all seems fine. But until notified by CFA institute, one can't be certain. :(

Does anyone has any update on this... i am really getting anxious... 😞

case is going on...result may be on Tuesday..

From the CFA website :
7 September Update
The Delhi High Court continues to hear arguments in our writ petition against the AICTE order. The next hearing in the matter is scheduled for Tuesday, 11 September 2007.

Now, we have to wait till Tuesday.

Hi Everyone

The matter could not be concluded today and a final decision is expected on Tuesday. The arguments were on the following lines:

1.The CFAI is not actively involved in the imparting of knowledge and therefore is not covered under the jurisdiction of the AICTE. It is merely testing the knowledge of the candidates.

2.The curriculum of the CFAI falls under technical education and not management. As such it does not make

BAD BAD BAD NEWS
CFAI loses trademark for CFA course

NEW DELHI: The almost decade-old trademark war between Hyderabad-based Institute of Chartered Financial Analyst of India (ICFAI) and the US-based Chartered Financial Analyst Institute (CFAI) has taken a new turn with the trademark registry cancelling the trademark awarded to the CFA course conducted by CFAI.

G L Verma, deputy registrar of trademarks, in a recent order said that the trademark issued to CFAI (formerly known as Association of Investment Management and Research) on July 13, 2005 was in contravention of rules and had thus been cancelled. "The trademark shall be re-advertised in the Trade Marks journal giving proper opportunity to the general public to file the notice of opposition if any," he added.

A trademark enables a student to officially use the CFA designation. Without it, the course loses its sheen. CFAI and ICFAI had initially operated jointly in offering the course in India.

After falling out in 1998, both institutes applied for trademark registration. CFAI got its trademark registered in 2005, which was opposed by ICFAI. According to ICFAI media manager R S Prasad, "CFAI, in advertisement published in the Trade Marks journal in 2003, mentioned its address as ICFAI, Plot No. 52, Nagarjuna Hills, Hyderabad - 500 082. This is actually ICFAI's address. They did this to misguide the public and the registrar office as ICFAI had also applied for the same trade mark."
