Need some Opinions on CFA

Hi all. I have a query regarding the enrollment eligibility for CFA course. I am doing my CA final and CS Inter(company Secretary course) . I still have 2years of my CA internship left.

I would like to pursue CFA course after finishing CS. I have not done my Under Graduation (UG) as i started doing CA right after i passed out of School under the new CPT scheme which allows us to join CA immediately after passing out of school. I would like to know if CA will be taken as the UG equivalent for enrolling in CFA. Or should i do my B.com in distance education scheme in some recognized university here??
Plus, what is the difference between MIFA(Icfai) and CFA(US)?? Is the syllabus different??

Please do let me know soon.

Thank you,

Shreenidhi

Most people do it along with MBA only.......if you are interested go for it or even better join your college, see how hectic life is there and then give June 2013 exam

bro one more thing..
i think attempting in june 2013 will b less possible as at that time..we will be having our summer internships....dont u think so.?

Is it true that the question papers of L1 CFA of Decembers are harder in comparison to June exams? I heard something like this.

U can reply via PM.
Thanxx in advance.

Hi,

From what I've read about CFA, I think you need to have graduation to enroll for CFA and I guess CA won't be considered as graduation. You can confirm it with CFA institute itself.

The difference between ICFAI & CFA lies in its scope, its application and its prevalence. Better not compare both of them. Kindly refer first few pages of this thread and you'll get a better idea.

xperienced people plzz guide us...

hi everyone..i have a query..where can i find mock test for each section?

i am in the last year of my bcom.. will join NIBM from july.. i want to give level 1 in june 2013..
1. how much time would be more than enough??
2. i m planning to take laxmi notes, will they be enough or any other study material is required with it?? if yes, please mention it with amount..

thanx..

Can some one mail me the tests at the back of every chapter and practice test of CFA institute books?

CFA L2 will no doubt give you an edge, but be aware that employers don't purely hire you on the basis of CFA, they prefer work ex more than anything.

If you're fresh out of college, it would make sense to probably try for a job in any of the brokerages (anand rathi etc), gain some work experience there for a while and then move onto equity research and further.

Hi,
I am currently studying bcom and would give my tybcom exams in march 2013..I am planning to appear for level 1 of cfa in dec 2012 and level 2 in june 2013
I wanted to know the scope/job opportunities available in the finance sector/investment sector(preferably to work as a investment manager/portfolio manager/equity research analyst) for someone who has
no job experience but has completed bcom and level 2 of cfa...
what is the average salary that i can expect?? and are there enough of jobs in these fields?? (even as an assisstant to senior analysts/consultants)
are companies hiring people with these acrreditions or do I have to wait till completion of 3rd level in order to get decent paying jobs...
please help me... thanks in advance...

is it possible to do mba with cfa or cma. which is better

i am an mba graduate with 3 yrs work ex in financial sector ( sutherland global)... can you tell me how much cfa charter will add value to my career...
how much percent salary rise i can expect after completing all 3 levels of cfa?

and one more thing should i do cfa or should i wait for 2-3 year and do executive mba from iims or xlri..?which option will be better for me?

I am planning to appear for CFA L1 either in Dec 2012 or Jun 2013 and I need some guidance from the seniors.

- How much time does it take for one to prepare for CFA L1? I know it is a very broad question but considering that I devote 2 hrs everyday and have a decent grasp of finance but very low level understanding of economics and accounts, please advise.

- I checked on the website and the cost comes out to be $95 more than the lowest price. If I appear for Dec exam (and hopefully clear it), will I be able to appear for Jun 2013 L2 exam? - and will I be eligible for the lowest fees, or will have to pay $95 extra again?

Could a CFA certi holder get an extra edge while applying for consultancy job in following two scenarios
1.Pre MBA ( after Engnrng)
2.Post MBA (Placements)

Hi,

I need a little info about CFA as per my profile

1) I have completed BBA from BIT Mesra in 2011, with no work-ex, so that's a 3 yr degree, so am I eligible for CFA or do I need a 4 yr degree ?

2) I need some basic info on job prospects after CFA with respect to Banking Industry, as what I have often heard is that CFA is best for a career in Investment Banking.

3) How is the course curriculum since I am a non-engineer & do not have a very quant related background, so is the course such that a lot of Mathematical background is required or can anyone having basic funda study & crack it ?

As of now, I am having converts from SIBM & expecting to get a Bank PO job, I am not in a position to take admission in SIBM, so my plan is to work in Bank for 1-2 yrs & do CFA alongside it, & then crack MBA & do it from IIMs or other top b-schools & complete my CFA & MBA

Some knowledge from experience Puys would be highly appreciated

In order to get the "Charter" not only you need to clear all 3 levels, but also you gotta have 4 years of experience in the relative field. Then you receive a charter. But clearing all 3 levels is a big deal in itself. So of course it gives you an edge.

As you haven't mentioned which consultancy you're talking about, I'll assume it is Financial consultancy.

Regarding your queries

1) Pre MBA : Of course it will be helpful as you'll be aware of many concepts and those concepts won't be new to you while your MBA. So you can score good in those topics. Also, if you're through with L2 or L3, you'll get an edge in placements. But don't take it for granted!

2) Post MBA : If you pursue CFA post MBA, it will be helpful if you're working in the relevant field. Not only you'll be more knowledgeable, but you'll climb the ladder in much better speed. It can give you an edge, definitively. Plus, if you've made good contacts in the industry, you may get a chance to switch to another profile if you'd like to.

A few questions

1) Does this 4 year experience have to be recent? Can it be old experience? What if one has 4 years of related workex, but not currently working in the investments area.
2) It is written on the CFA website that you also need 2 sponsors to recommend you for the membership. Do these two need to be from the current / old organizations? Do I need to know them? Please elaborate more on this.
3) Do I need to become a member of the CFA Institute now while apprearing for the exams or after completing all levels? I refer to the membership of $275 that is mentioned on their wesite.
4) It is also mentioned that we need to be a member of a local CFA society to be a charterholder. What society is this? and what is the procedure for this membership? Is there a separate fee for this?

1- you are elligible to appear fr cfa.
2-for retail banking it has very little to no relevance, but in commercial banking areas such as treasury management, wealth management, PMS, corporate finance have significant relavance w.r.t to cfa. yes mostly cfa concentrates on portfolio management and analysis. But it is gaining significance in India.
3- the course is no doubt very vast and requires a lot of time to be devoted to it.. u need to master a variety of subjects (near about 10 in each level). but i think ur background of BBA (assuming its bach in bus management) will infact help in many of des subjects. dont worry bout d quant its managable and u hav a very fancy calculator to take care of all dat.

As far as Sibm is concerned i think u should not let it go (if its SIBM pune). U cud get finance easily for d course and coupled wid cfa and sibm u wud hav a very good combination dat cud get u places very fast. think bout it.. even otherwise think bout cfa if u interested in commercial banking i suggest u w8 for now and dont rush towards cfa. best of luck

experience has to be relavant old or new. has to be in investment or analysis related field
