hi m plannin to start wid cfa.. dis mite seem a very stupid question and forgive me cause i dont know better but is it not possible to start at d backend and den get an entry in front end after some years of experience?? is wat im talkin about usually d general trend i.e ppl join back end and move to front..?? or is it dat once ina sector its diffcult to break d shackles?? pls answer i need ur guidance at dis stage
It becomes difficult and generally people with more than 3-4 years of back-end experience are not preferred in front-end roles (exceptions always exists). Another way to look at it is- if one has already 3-4 years (or more) back-end experience, its implied that the guy would be earning a decent sum. Shifting to front-end at that point would imply going at a cut (in all possibility), until and unless the shift is into a Global Bank/I-Bank research team. Hope you got the point.
Thanks a ton for this post. That's really very inspiring to know that you have cleared all 3 levles, congrats. So if we have a background from financial or some brokerage companies then would add benefit. So in which profession you are into after clearing 3 levels, if you don't mind.
Hi friends, i have started PGDM this year. i am B.E. in chemical and a fresher. i thought of giving CFA L1 this december. but, with such a hectic life at MDI, i don't think i will be able to cope with extra study of CFA. so now i am planning to go for next june. i know it will not help me in final placements, but it will help my profile in the long-run. have i taken the right decision??? any veteran please answer.
Not a veteran; but a fresher; I have decided to go ahead for this december. SAme condition as yours; however it might prove crucial for the final placements(senior's advise)

I am interested in pursuing a career in finance. So I just came to know about some short term course been started by Copal Partners under the name of Copal Institute. Its on Financial research and they are saying its helpful to CFA aspirants as well as students pursuing CFA. So can anybody tell me if I do this course and CFA after sometime..will it help me?
@nids Going by the information provided by the Institute on their site' (i) the course may be useful only for those who are from non-finance background (like engineering) or/and have no or very less knowledge and grasp of financial and research aspects of investment, equity and credit (and feel confident only when teacher-taught or done the contents in a class-room teaching rather than self-study) and wish to do CFA ; (ii) for a three months course it seems the fees is on the higher side (specially because it has no stated recognition or acceptance value in the industry); (iii) Content seems good and relevant for CFA and FRM (to some extent only), BUT it is difficult to understand how the delivery of the contents can suit candidates with such a wide spectrum of qualification (eligibility for enrollment) i.e. from B.Sc, Engineering to CFA/CA/FRM and MBA. It says the applicant must hold a degree /professional qualification out of these (that means already a CFA/CAMBA/FRM) ! It seems like a overkill.
Personally I feel, if you are free and can afford the fees easily and take this course only to get a good foundation /understanding of the (part of the) contents and knowledge base required to do CFA then it may be a good option. In fact, taking CFA coaching from a good provider while doing CFA (if at all you feel the need ) will also provide the same academic support (with more focussed on CFA) at better cost.
Thank you mygos for your detailed explanation. Thanks for the help. I have also taken views from the people in the industry & they also feel that this is a very good course for me or anyone interested in financial research industry. i will be enrolling for the course. As this will lay a strong foundation in finance and will help me in CFA as I want to be in this industry. As far as placements are concerned Copal Partners is giving an opportunity for an interview with any of its four mentioned division.
How can we connect to those who have completed their CFA?
I mean, is there any group / website / forum / directory where we can find their profiles and contact them? Not only just charter holders, but also those have completed all 3 levels. Also, is there a way we can find such guys from our respective cities?
I am seeking some guidance and I'd like to know some things from them.
