I'm a scientist in DRDO for past 3 years and wish to switch to finance. I'm a mechanical engineer and have no prior knowledge of finance or economics.
My ultimate goal is to do an MBA from the US from one of the top B-Schools. I wish to take the GMAT in 2012 and want to improve my profile in the next 1.5 years. I plan to do this by joining an NGO as a volunteer and working for it. I'm determined to make an impact over there.
Sine I'll be taking the GMAT in 2012, I think I have some free time on my hands and could use it to improve my profile further. For this purpose I'm looking at clearing CFA L1 in December 2011. I believe this will make it easier for me to switch to finance and will also add some credibility to my profile as to why I plan to switch to finance.
Could someone over here please guide me?
Also, I want to know if it is possible for a rank newcomer to finance to clear L1 in four months i.e. taking the L1 in June 2011 and clearing it. I can manage up to 5-6 hours of study per day.

CFAa SaysFinally got my hands on CFA curriculum books, Schweser notes 2011, Schweser Question bank Pro 2011 and Stalla notes 2011.. I am planning to give the exam in Dec 2011.. But, as anyone can see, no exam center from India has been listed for Dec exams.. When I asked frens, some of them said it's the same every year. They will be listed after the first dead line.. Is it true? If not, I might as well go for June exams.. Please reply quick as the second deadline for June is approaching pretty quick..

Do not bother about it, simply go ahead and complete the registration. You will receive your study material within a few days. They were showing the same error for my address too, but I went ahead with the registration and received the material within 3 days. Yes, the e-book and the printed material are similar.

Hey puys, could anyone please tell me what the structure of the exam? What are the question's like?
I have just started to read FRA LOS 29 and saw a few questions at the end.
Are the questions similar to those given in the curriculum/schweser or are the questions in these books merely preparatory in purpose with the actual exam questions being at another level altogether in terms of difficulty?

go thru cfainstitute.org........the website precisely explains the format...........the papers r manageable if the concepts r clear...i owuld recommend schweser notes........as they are very much effective for preparation.
Tha actual exam is more or less in line with the questions in schweser and cfa insti' books....

I'm looking for schweser notes 2011 for CFA level 1 in Delhi, can anyone guide me where I can find them ind delhi ?
Guys- I had enrolled in the ICFAI- MS Finance+ CFA program some 4 years back. However, i haven't till date cleared a single paper as i hardly have time to study and have no prior concepts of Finance. So i havent been writing the exams for 2 yrs now, but have off late been considering to restart my prep.
I work for around 12-15hrs/day and hardly even get an hr/day to study. Weekends mostly end up sleeping or going out with friends to relax and studies take a back seat.
The thing is i am a Business Analyst within the HR domain in one of the largest US based MNC BPO. But i am interested in a career in Finance, although my graduation has been in Bio sciences.
What i want to know is:
1) Is the ICFAI MSF+CFA course any good in the market?
2) Any strategy for preparation- I have great maths and stats concept but low knowledge of Finance/Accounting.
3) Considering my knowledge of finance is poor and i have analyst exp in HR domain- how do i shift into a finance field?
4) Will the CFA get me a job of atleast 30K a month post completion (my present salary is much higher but i am willing to forego of some earnings to start in the new field afresh.

The quality of materials from Bharat Book Center at Ber Sarai is EXTREMELY POOR. You cannot see more than 40% of the content, as all the illustrations and diagrams are totally blacked out. Without reading these illustrations and diagrams its very difficult to understand the concepts properly, as the material in the text is linked to each other and the text gives references to diagrams to explain the concepts.
When I went back to him complaining of this, he said "When others can read, then you can also read". He refused to take the notes back for a refund. When I fought more, he said that he can give me any book worth 1/5th of the cost of the notes !!
Finally I agreed to take the book, as I thought something is better than nothing !! Not only that, he mentioned that he will courier the book to my address. Its been more than 8 months, of calling him every week, and he has not sent me any book.
Also, after returning his notes, I had to arrange for these notes from Mumbai, but I had already lost about 3-4 weeks owing to the time taken for couriering these notes.
Pls DO NOT BUY any notes from Bharat Book Center at Ber Sarai, if you want to save your precious time and money.

I'm a rank newcomer to finance and know nothing about it. I'll be taking the L1 in December 2011.
I want to know how to go about the preparation?
Shall I study from Schweser Notes first and then from the curriculum or shall it be the other way round?
BTW, I don't have the curriculum with me yet. When it comes to detailed material, all I have right now are the Wiley Investment Series books.
Somebody please advice.
