can anyone tell me that-what does cfa l-2 and l-3 consist of ?as l-1 is basic and very in depth theory.
Level 1 is basics, no depth but they will cover nearly everything related to investments and markets. Although, Level 1 will give more investments related knowledge than MBA Finance, but don't expect much opportunities after just Level 1 unless you are a CA. Only thing in detail here is accounting.
level 2 is your moment of truth, They will cover nearly everything possible to make you a Research analyst. It covers full econometrics, derivatives, accounting and obviously equity and debt valuation you will ever need to become a research analyst. Frankly, they don't leave "anything", course is huge, much more then Level 1.
Level 3 is truely time paas, your are done with CFA once you passed level 2.
What I have seen is that; while level 1 is not much value added to your Resume, but level 2 makes the significant difference, and level 3 is marginal value addition after that.
point is, CFA is basically level 2, and I'm hopefully becoming level 2 pass next month also level 1 is good for engineers (like me), I landed up in quant job with it
i banking jobs are not the prerogative of premier b schools passouts...... by all odds students from premier b schools have an edge over students of other b schools because of campus placements (companies like goldman sachs , mckinsey visit campus of these schools to recruit) but after 3-4 years it is your work that counts even if u are from IFMR or any other B school from this league....
P.S i know a graduate of Fore school who is working as an associate with JP Morgan and he started working with an equity research co. ........ so buddy just work hard and Stop thinking like this, else you'll limit your own performance... ATB:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
well buddy sorry for being so negative.. bt dz is wht i ws hearn frm many ppl and seriously it feels bad when ur wrkn hard forr smthn and ppl tel dat it wnt b mch use of u and is betr for odr ppl.. so postd dat querry.. nyways hv hrd dat few companies at our colg lk icici do pik ppl accrdn to our profile..so may b v ppl also do stnd a chance in few companies to directly gt into the field atleast if nt i bank..
also level 1 is good for engineers (like me), I landed up in quant job with it
ive got placed in an it job with infy though i am an electronix engg. my interest is finance. what exactly do u mean by a quant job? also will cfa level1 be helpful to get a finance project in IT companies?
I have done my B.com and subsequently my MBA in finance.I was working for abt 1 and half years with ICICI bank in operations .Now i am working with NSE since almost 2 years in compliance .I plan to do CFA L1 in december '10.Is this a good option for a better job prob after completion of level 3? What kind of pay hike can i expect?
Dear Mr. White Snow, This is with reference to your complaint posted on Pagal Guy website on 20-05-10. Our response is given below: We have perused your detailed opinion about American CFA and the CFA offered by Icfai. While you are entitled to your opinion and we respect the same, we are afraid that in the first paragraph, line 4, you have taken the liberty with the law of the land. The part of the sentence that was a pure case of brand theft by ICFAI, may invite the provision of the contempt of the court. For your information the case pertaining to Icfai vs American CFA Association are in Delhi High Court and Honorable Supreme Court. Pending their judgments if you give an opinion that it was a brand theft by Icfai, you are committing the contempt of the court. Our attorneys will definitely draw the attention of the learned judges to this aspect and the law will take its own course. I shall advice you to immediately tender an apology and withdraw the complaint. I assume as u r a BBA graduate, U hv the idea of Accounting standards , micro economics , and knowledge of a bit of financial terms. Then u can very well manage ur time pursuing both. Mind u , if u r from average B School, CFA will require more study than MBA. Given that, CFA course is not a very easy one. It requires concentrated efforts on the aspirant's part. U can go through the Schweser notes first and then decide urself to enroll for this bit expensive course or not.
CFA L1 doesnt command much value in itself. If combined with MBA Fin, it may be an added value. But I really beleive one should not think of a good job after clearing L1. Yes, after becoming a cfa , u certainly have very good career prospects. Best of luck. Come to me if u hv any further doubts.

yeah m very much comfortable with economics accounts n financial terms.according to you how much time should be devoted for cfa in a day apart from my mba studies?devoting 2 serious hours for 6 months...is it enough to clear level1?and i know L1 is not of much importance but still does it help one to enhance one's chances at the time of placements?

Yes, it is enough to clear level 1. But still I would advice u to glance through Schweser Notes first to get a real picture of it. At the time of ur MBA campus placements, it will certainly be an added benefit.

Yes they are enough to prepare for level 1. Mind u, this is just my opinion. U may take opinion of few others. 😃
thanks guys for helping me.another thing i want to know is what is the difference between the job profiles we get after cfa and cfp? what i have heard is cfp is good for setting up your own firm so are there good job opportunities after cfp?
Need to get this thing straight - Can the CFA knowledge be put to good use in the software field? Do people aiming to be business analysts / domain experts go for CFA?
