Hi Ankita.
I have just registered myself as a L1 candidate for Dec. and researched long and hard about CFA. Level one of CFA is not very complex but nonetheless requires atleast 400 hours of dedicated study as some questions can be fairly tricky even with 3 options (6hr. exams can take their toll).
yes you most certainly can clear L1 after starting prep now but be mindful that just clearing L1 is not of any great significance and the follow on L2 and L3 are much more intensive in study and should only be taken up by those who are truly intrested in studying finance and asset management as L2 and L3 use applied concepts in case studies to derive subjective analysis in it's exam papers.

Hi ankita,
I am writing CFA Level 1 On june 6 & also doing MBA from IFMR.
If you want to go in finance field then its good to write CFA as it will surely add value to your profile & will also increase your knowledge as study material
is really very good but as you are from IT background you need to work very hard & require to study 350+ hour to make sure that you will clear it.So if you thing you can devote time for CFA,go ahead.
But CFA will be helpful in getting good finance job only once you cleared all level.
hi,i am new to pg. preparing for cat 10.
i have few queries,
1. i want to do mba in finance.i am from engineering background. which course should i go for out of the mentioned courses i.e. out of frm/prm cfa.i hae no knowledge about them.
2 how about ncfm courses.are they beneficial.i want to build my profile.
3. should i go for these courses now, during mba or after mba.which is the right time for these courses.
4. will doing these courses add value to my mba degree.please help
Dude, it seems that u dont hv much idea abt job markets. Give me one example of a Fund manager who is not a CA or MBA ... Or give me one CFA (only cfa) or CIMA (only CIMA) who is a fund manager. I will give u tonnes of examples.
And remember one thing , i am not lobbying for CA bcoz i m doin it. I know hw difficult it is to get into IITs and IIM A B C... And i rate it more than a normal CA ( Remember a ranker is at par wit them)
Are we talking from Indian Perspective or Global Perspective here dear???
People have different dreams, some see professional degrees as a mean to experience different cultures, have some international work ex, travel countries across the globe. i m one such being.
When i was talking of CFA/CIMA/CPA/FRM/ACCA job roles i meant global job opportunities.
In the global scenario all major job roles like finance controller-director, risk manager, Business Analyst, Financial Analyst, credit-research, financial reporting, Asset-Valuation, debt-financier, project manager, Auditor, are bagged by these qualifications, and i can give you aplenty example if you still need.

Yep, globally surely it is. I would not hv done Cfa, had i not grasped the advantages related to it. But yeah, one thing is quite sure, cfa syllabus is more like a cake walk for a CA. And i can say that atleast for cfa l1 and l2 bcoz i have studied both.
Hello guys. I went through Shwezer website the there are 4 to 5 types of course material means as you pay more you will get more features so which would be sufficient coz they are too costly.
hello i am starting my mba this july from ifmr..session starting in july...
now i have planned to write cfa level 1 in December..
i have a doubt....people in the thread said for cfa.... mba from iim a,b,c is important..didn't get that point.???
like i would be doing mba from a 2nd tier college but still a college very good at finance as its specialization is finance...
i am aiming at investment banking as my career...so how would cfa help me out in that along with mba...
one of our seniors at ifmr from financial engineering batch last year completed cfa in 2nd year and he got a foreign placement in investment banking of around 32 lakhs...so pgdm f.e. is very good along with cfa but what about an mba frm not a top 20 college in india and cfa...will cfa help me in such sceneriao..?????????
plz help..

CFA will be good for your fin profile, but on the placement front cfa level 1 might not make a huge diff, but a cfa level 2 will surely. schweser is good, once u finish it u can register and then also look at the core material for final touches

see i havent seen the 2008 notes so am not very sure if there is any syllabus change, but as far as i believe there might not be that much of a change, u finish these notes and register for cfa as early as possible so that u get ample time to read thru the core pack
i silly query as i'm new
when we register for the test........ do we get any study material.......... and how long before the tests does the registration begin?
