i would say just blindly follow the CFA material
dont go after schweser or allen material
rest is ur call :D
in time constraints , u better compare the allen resources with cfa material and study anything extra given in the cfa material
coz nothing apart from it is an exhaustive resource

Thanks so much. That's very helpful indeed.
I am surprised at how fast those books come over from the time of registration!

if u r non MBA student with no prior knowledge in finance , go through allen resource videos ..it helped me a lot personally .. from those videos , u can know the basics of finance .. then start with schweser/cfa materials whichever is compatible to u ..
if u r like bovin3 u can very well , read only cfa material alone

as suyash said , Time is very much subjective ..
jus work on basics and then move on concepts one by one

@veterans and others , jus ma view

Has been discussed more number of times than you can imagine, visit this forum or if you need shortcut go through the forum CFA level 1 June 2010, that has relatively lesser number of posts and would be sufficient to answer most of your queries
You have given the answer yourself
If only the work is in investment field that would be counted as relevant work x
Some people clear CFA studying 12 days . Some can't do even after years. It depends on how well you are understanding the concepts
thanx suyash...

Hello,
I have done MS(Insurance) from ICFAI. Presently I am not working as I have a small baby but wish to start working from next year. I was intrested in doing CA. Can anyone suggest me if it will benefit me n my resume. My MS(Insurance) has not helped me much in the past. I think this is the best time for me to enhance my skills as I am at home only. I am 27, so is it a good decision to go for CA at this age?
Hope to get good suggestions......
CA will add hugely to your resume. Thats no doubt. But U have to spare minimum 4 years to do CA. The results are pretty bad. The Nov 2009 Final result was 7.86% and Nov 2009 PCC result was also not much encouraging. So a normal candidate may not clear in first attempt. Given these facts its ur decision to do CA.
One thing I can vouch for is Its the Best Course in the country for commerce candidates. And I havent seen a single CA who hasnt fetched a very good salary.

You need to be an undergraduate and in final year to register for L1. Any bachelor's degree will be ok and not just 4 year degree.
For registration of L2, you should have completed your graduation

CFA is a bit different from MBA - FINANCE , since it mainly concentrates on portfolio analysis , investment instruments and all the nuances of investment world including ethics :D. Where as MBA - FINANCE has all the above mentioned topics covered in its curriculum but in relatively less explored fashion.MBA also concentrates on managemnt aspects and also other aspects like taxation etc. More over Investment banking is something which you get to understand more and more by your exposure in this field. So i would suggest CFA to be preffered over MBA- Finance from any average B school , if you really want to make a career in investment banking.
L1 do not hold much value but L2 and specially clearing L3 can enhance your chances to make a bright career in investment banking. I know a couple of investment bankers who are getting salaries in the range of 10-15 lakhs and still going for CFA
Regarding your next question, Clearing CFA will definately help you to make a good impression on your interviewers whether in B schools or any investment firm.If you are a L2/ L3 holder, it speaks a lot about your passion and knowledge in this arena.
Good Luck:D
PS ; - any more suggestions regarding this questions are welcome by seniors. I am still a final yr student but have learnt a lot about CFA from previous threads and my seniors
Seniors plz answer this
For L1 CFA in Dec 2010, no centre in Mumbai and kathmandu have been given in CFA website as of now. When does the cfa institute usualy applies for a Stay to make arrangements for conducting test in mumbai.
Why kathmandu is not mentioned for dec 2010 L1?
i want to appear in dec 10 for cfa -1but have question whether i am eligible or not...my present qualification b.sc(3 years)...i read the eligibility criteria on the cfa institute..its written 4 years bachelor degree or work ex....plz clear my query ..whether i am eligible or how can i fulfill the eligibility....
hi ,
1. Meet the entrance requirements:
- Have a U.S. bachelor's (or equivalent) degree
- or be in the final year of your bachelor's degree program at the time of registration
- or have four years of qualified, professional work experience
- or have a combination of work and college experience that totals at least four years
(Note: Summer, part-time, and internship positions do not qualify.)
- or be in the final year of your bachelor's degree program at the time of registration
please refer Four Steps To Enroll and Register in the CFA Program for more info
It's pretty clear isn't it ?
Get work-ex of 1 year or enrol in a master's programm.
you can also mail the cfa guys, for confirmation

HI, I in dilemma and not able to decide about how CFA (ofcourse US CFA) would help me in changing the career path and help me in achieving my dream of Finance Professional.
I am confused as I do not know how CFA would help me in my career, A look at my profile:
1. B.Tech in Civil Engineering
2. Working as IT professional in (BFS) domain since last 2.5 years
I want to know how CFA would help me take an reputed job in top of the investment banks without doing MBA and how would I know about them that they have jobs available for me?
Would they (companies) consider me with my experience of IT industry and not Finance experience in particular?
Pleae help me regarding this as I really want to know decide between my career aspiration and available opportunities? If you think other options also, Please do suggest me.
I think this query would be same to many of the professionals working in IT industry. Thanks
Do not let expectations rule over you, have a enjoy ride of life.
Hi
i want to know the difficulty of CFA-Us and is doing CFA from ICFAI worth doing it.........
Fellas,
Has anyone talked to somebody who's cleared all the three levels ? How did it help them in their career ? I have gone thru all the posts of Rajatb and all. So that much I know. Any gyaan from someone who's cleared all the levels ?
As far as my info goes, CFA doesn't add great value to your CV as one would expect from it's reputation/hype,. It has not helped people leapfrog in their career.
Whatsay ?
