hey te_quiro

u can look at teh site www.cfainstitute.com fr every kind of details...like fee, hw u shd go abt it , time u shd devote to study etc etc....level 1 exam will held in dec 2009, if u want u can nw as well register fr that exam and start studying....u hav to decide whether 6 mnths will be suffiecient to prepare considering ur doing ur post graduation as well..generally 6 mnths are enuff if ur confident and serious...u can take out 2 hrs on weekdays and 4-5 hrs on weekend..i wud advise u to strat cfa course wid ur college only coz if u even clear one level, it will increase ur demand in the market once u will pass out of college...wid coll, u can form ur study grp with other frnds and also clear doubts of one another...cfa institute sends d study material once u register fr dat...many ppl generally refers some photocopy material ( which im nt aware of) since the material that cfa institute sends in quite lenghty......cheers.....ATB

I think you shoud join bank and start studying for CFA...If you are getting a job in a Investment bank or a pms right now that would be best(which i guess is very unlikely)...if not then best thing would be joining a bank....after you finish your L2 you will easily get a job in an Investment Bank...

Hi Guys, need a bit of guidance about CFA, new to this thread. A bit about my background, I am going to IIM I this year, and have done Bachelors in Business Studies (Marketing, though) and worked on a business profile for a year.

  1. How does CFA supplement an MBA Finance degree? Also, IIMI means I may not get international placements and am keen to stay here itself, so is the CFA recognised well in India and is the course related to Indian scenario?
  2. What kind of job profiles do one end up into, after MBA Fin, and CFA level 1 only, or level 2, and maybe level 3 a year later to MBA?
  3. Alongwith MBA (at IIMI), how tough would it be take the papers? I have got this feedback that MBA Finf and CFA would have 50% overlapping courses, does that keep me in good stead? i have studied the basics of finance at graduation.
  4. Any ppl currently pursuing MBA and CFA, or planning, pls PM contact details, would love to speak once.

hi every body can some one tell me that if we complete 1 level of icfai or are not able to complete
full cfa than can we get job,how good is the scope of cfa in india and abroad i.e. international cfa,IS IT TRUE THAT LEVEL 1 OF INT CFA IS HAS MORE VALUE AS COMPARE TO CFA IN INDIA.KINDLY PROVIDE ME DETAILS AND HELP ME ABOUT THIS COURSE.

there must be no hindrance in doing anything u like to do... most of the people i know who have passed L2 CFA.. are engineers... it is not about losing focus...

then according to ur friends doing an MBA in finance or marketing after engg is also losing focus...

so think logically.. and just do what u love

hello sir.. i appreciate wat u said.. do wat u love.. but being an engineer hw do come to knw wat cfa is all about?? wat job roles do u have??i mean wat kind of personality is best suited to wrk in investment field as a charter?? wat i personally feel that ppl r goin for cfa as dey go for cat ( as a part of rat race ) and in the end fail at interview bcoz they cant justify "why mba".. in short i want u to provide some insights on " why cfa".. thanks

CFA will provide u excellent insights in the finance as well as the investment sectors wrt US market mainly... it will help u in a lot of ways if u actually planning to join the finance sector.. (as u said u are interested in). i do agree MBA is a part of the rat race... but u see falling in middle of the rat race and doing what everyone is doing is also important... because everyone do not get the same kind of exposure as a child.. it is through this trial and error u will know what u are good at.. what u really want to do.. and finally what u are interested in....

i have a query though i never want to pursue "can only commerce grads appear for CA"?

It is NOT a prerequisite to be a 'commerce grad' for pursuing the CFA program ...
I guess u asking about CFA only (though the above statement is equally valid for CA as well ;)
