I am giving my GMAT this on March 22nd (target 720 - 740), and would really appreciate your feed back on the below.

I have been preparing for the GMAT for the last 20 days (at a very leisurely pace) , and still have like 20 days to go (Dday: March 22nd). I have finished the quant part of the OG and Kaplan strategy guide and am done with the Manhattan Number properties guide. After looking at the manhattan guides, I discarded kaplan and sticking with the manhattan 4th ed guides and the OG(12 ed + Quant and Verbal reviews 2nd Ed).

Ok now here's the problem, for the last few days I couldn't help but feel I might not be able to finish all the manhattan guides. But also feel that they would really help me break the 700 barrier. I am willing to put in 7 - 8 hours of study every day may be more if needed (Now I slightly feel the pressure and decided to pull up my socks and get serious about it). so here's what I want your comments on:

1. Has any one worked out all the 8 guides in such a short time of 15 - 20 days.
2. If so would you recommend the same. ( I do intend to take practice tests probably 2 every week stating next week).
3. If this prep plan is ridiculous, plz plz temmi what can I do differently.

Hi Ed, I have not used the MGMAT guides, so I cannot comment on that, the only thing that made me comment here was the part where u did not tell anything about the Verbal prep.
I just wanted to know whether you have started preparing for Verbal, and if yes, what stage you are in.
I think it is wise to balance both parts of the prep, in trying to finish all the guides, you should not neglect the Verbal bit.

Also, since you have around 20 days, I would suggest not to give more than 5-6 tests in total. You need to do a thorough analysis of the tests after you are done with them (I assume u will be going in with GMATPrep and MGMAT CAT's).
The analysis eats up a lot of time and you would also need to hit the books once you figure out your pain areas.

yes i would be using the GMATPrep and MGMAT CAT's. i took my first MGMAT CAT a couple of weeks ago and had gory results. I was not able to complete the test, specially the quant section. got a score of 600. need to improve a good 120 -140 points in the next 20 days.

My suggestion would be to not get perturbed by the results of the first MGMAT CAT, get down to analysis and you can easily figure out the topics where you need to give more attention.
Again, I still think you will need a good amount of time for verbal, so if you have just started verbal prep, concentrate more on that so that you get up to speed.
I dont think it is essential to finish the quant guides, because you have a paucity of time, if you are not planning to reschedule your test, i would suggest you to concentrate more on verbal. As Indians, we tend to rely more on our ear while doing the verbal questions, which is a habit we need to get out of, and it takes a good amount of practice to do that.
There is a flip side though, in case if you feel that you have enough command on the verbal part, then obviously, you could devote more time to the quant part.

So i took my GMAT on the 22nd, and managed a 700 (Q48, V38,).
Now that put me in a spot. I strongly feel I can push another 30 40 points if I retake the test in a month.

Again, I still think you will need a good amount of time for verbal, so if you have just started verbal prep, concentrate more on that so that you get up to speed.


well that proved right, I feel with some more targeted practice I should be able to get the scores up. But what do you guy suggest, is it worth the additional 30 40 points.

Congrats, 700 is quite a respectable score.
My 2 cents,set your priorities right.Identify your target schools and work upon what they look for in a candidate.Don't forget GMAT is just one part of your app.An addition of 30-40 would certainly help but the same time can be utilised to improve other areas that your profile may lack.However, if you still feel that this score doesn't do justice to your prep than go for it.Just take care that the juice is worth the squeeze.
