The refund might not be of the entire Rs 1,300, as the fee kept by coaching institutes to sell the forms would be deducted from the amount, he added.

First of all, Kudos to PG and Apurv for taking up this matter at such a short notice and getting the real story out.

I still feel there is something more to it than what meets the eye. If the institute, at some point in the course of their admission process decided that it would accept XAT / GMAT / CAT scores as well, they could have emailed the applicants asking for their XAT / GMAT id. The student can go and update their XAT / CAT registration numbers. Also, those who had not submitted their application forms can mention their registration numbers alongside CAT registration numbers. This is exactly what SPJIMR did.

But now, the say, they would refund the extra Rs.1300 taken from applicants. Those who secure admission, will get the amount adjusted with their term fees!! This means that the refunds wait till the GDPI results are done / forgotten! Why still drag the issue, refund the application fees to all, and charge the successful candidates a flat slab fees!

hi
i had applied to mica sometime in november and had given both my cat as well as xat id in 1 form
i later got a mail asking for the additional 1300 rupees
i replied that i want only the cat score to be considered in the case of paying the additional amount
i got 92.85 in cat and 93.82 in xat(va in cat 97 in xat 74)
now i would like to know what have they considered?
only cat?
only xat?
or both?

I cant really believe this. I am not a direct sufferer of this, but this is unbelievable. The institute first makes up lakhs of money by encouraging people to apply by way of conferences in coaching classes, websites, mails stating prominently that there would be no sectionals and also stresing the point that last years cut-off was 85 and this year they expect it to go it even below. At least i dont know of any other B-school that does this. At least not from the premier league as they call themselves. If this is not to attract aspirants(read money) then what is this? They make up lakhs by this technique and are not ready now to bear even the money kept by coaching classes. Thats atrocious. I think it should be entire 1300.

But then is it all about Application Fees ? There's much more than that. There are people whose dreams have been shattered, esp cos not all MBA-wannabes apply to MICA. For a serious MICA aspirant, with 95%ile+, I dont think those 1300 bucks mean a damn!

@maverick

no, the application fees is not the core issue. the fact is like you said, anyone who applies to mica does so for love of the field/discipline cuz the course is highly specialised and not a general management course offered at other schools, all of which are more or less substitutable for one another. so applying to mica involves a lot of passion for the course per se and not just placements/salaries/whatever else.

so the applicants are clearly emotional about it as they are basing their career decisions on this one application. and when things are handled in as shoddy and underhand a manner as we've seen mica do, the outrage is understandable. for me personally, not only have i been denied the one course i ever wanted to do, i've been denied it cuz of inexplicable reasons despite the fact that i am deserving. the double payment issue just makes the whole issue more cheap and sick.

this seems to be a move leaning towards crisis management. im with maverick...the 1000 or so being refunded is not what the aggrieved are looking for. Mica is not just another institute that people apply to on a whim. Whats the point in all the work put into the cat preparation if at the end of the day it counts for nothing to someone who just puts check marks beside the name after looking at other parameters instead?

Where does a person who's scored 97 in the cat or xat go from here??
Nursing an ambition to study in the premier communiations institute and then see it all crushed in one stroke and then given a reason which borders on absolute disregard for principles and ethics? Thats my question

Hi ppl
The fees getting refunded is good thing.....i had never understood the logic of MICA/BIM and other institutes of asking students to fill up separate forms for both CAT/XAT or any other exam...if ur accepting multiple exam score then one form should suffice for it!
Hope some day soon a single exam replaces the 10 -odd exams we give!!!

Sldnt MDI also refund the money it collected by forms of PGDBM and HR separately??
