Got a letter from MICA today saying I am w/l no. 5 and tht I would be considered for admission purely on merit in case someone opts out.....I wonder if these guys know what "purely on merit" means

Yet i cant help wondering how w/l number 18 can get selected over w/l no: 1 and 5 and 16 ..... ... especially if there is'nt a separate quota for the GMAT applicants. Are u sure abt this Kari? The whole thing would make a lot more sense if there was in fact a GMAT quota. But then if there is a different quota, shud'nt there be a different w/l too?
Hell..........! Now that u are going to MICA, u can find out and unravel the mystery behind this very wierd {to say the least} way of handling the admission process.....
For all the rest who did'nt make it, I guess, just follow Kari's advice and HANG IN THERE! who knows wt they'll do next! Things might just turn in u're favour and if in case it does'nt, remember, its not the end of the world.
Rainmaker, I think the 1 yr programmes at MICA are awesome! In fact i really wanted to do the Broadcast Management course, but then regretfully decided against it.

Hmmn......well scarlett i already gave my version of what i think happened...i did say that the Gmat candidates are petted against each other...what i meant by saying that seats are not reserved is that there is no provision that sayas so many seats have to go to Gmat students...the only provision that they have says that no more than 5 students will be selected from this route...and if indeed there was a quota scarlett...i would not have been waitlisted in the first place....cause among the Gmat applicants only 1 candidate had been selected and at least 2 were waitlisted...i know cause i checked that out myself.......
And Mr Mustafa...thx for your congratulations......and yeah i dont understand by what u mean by "how I did it". I dint do anything.......

I think they require a certain no. of foriegn students to make up thier costs.....foriegn students pay bout 4 lacs a yr........tht can be the only explanation if Karishmag.ji indeed did not do anything......but actually this indirectly transalates into a quota so....
Neway I am too disgusted with MICA to study there anymore.....am asking for my DD back......no.6 you are now no.5

This is for you and all those who are not selected in the college (or stream) of their choice and are compromising for a lower grade option. I personally feel that you should never stop feeling bad about it. Infact, not just bad, but Miserable.
I have viewed your resume on your blog (others can read it too. its nice) and you are really destined to do something in advertising (or promotions). 😃
But just contine to feel miserable till you start getting what you think you really deserve.:x

The Mican....what you just said about your friend getting the confirmation letter...well...that has happened to me as well...am also through to Mica...apparantly an international applicant
through the Gmat dropped out so I am in....or thats what i believe happened....

Congrats on making it through!
Explain this whole "international applicant" thing to me.Does your admission letter clearly state that you are one?
I would've thought that only NRIs and international(read intl. citizens) would qualify for the tag of "international applicant". I got in on my GMAT scores as well but I'm not looking forward to paying approx 8 lakhs instead of the (already overpriced) 6 when I have no reason to!

Yaar sincerly i don't know what MICA ppl are up to this year.On 30th i got a mail from Mr. Murali that the venue have been cancelled and asked again for my number.I have sent My mobile number and am waiting.No calls for me today.Although i recieced a mail from a friend saying she had a call.Her interview lasted only for 8 minutes and that was just a formality kind.It was even less engaging than her PGPCM interview, she says.
I have given my pref as DCM.Then PREM and then broadcasting management.I am not too hopeful as the interviews were scheduled for today and i haven't recieved a call.Neither any mail sayin that they have recieved my Phone number.
Mean while i am preparing for interview for CITI Bank.The package is OK(2.1 lacs).

Thanx a lot.You have understood what i think and how i think.I haven't stopped amiling since i read ur post.Man i have a right to be depressed abt my results.Most of the people over here have done there graduation and then had a shot at MICA, or they have been working and then they thought of MICA.But i don't know how many people in their student life of mere five years...and doing MMS from one of the best colleges in MP have
- wiped plates and served buffets at a three star hotels for 100 rs a day
- worked in a petrol pumps
- worked in wine shops selling bacardi as sales promotion guy handling 2 cities
- worked in bars handling whole region of indore and a team of 20
- written research papers
- got his paper published in a book and flunked by college in subject called research
- Reached quarters of IMA brand guru quiz for three years after beating 120 participating teams from those colleges in which we die to get,but never won it:)
- worked in ad agency as creatives and flunked in paper called advertising
- worked as Regional manager for a company and then quit the job
- have a certificate saying that "he is in top 1% of people in his age group"
- And then got a year back in college for short attendence
- Teachers won't give him a CGPA over 5.5..no matter what and at the same time used to teach my classmates so that they can score 8 pointers.
- written the CAT by missing a day from job,without prep,then thought the paper had gone sour so tore it away and never filled any other allied forms.
Both Neha Taleja and Saunak Gosh have been my juniors and have passed out of MICA.
If any one has seen so much and even then kept on losing,and had a positive mental attitude,do get in touch with me,and do teach me.BUT MY NEGATIVE ATTITUDE IS THE RESULT OF PAVLOVS CONDITIONING THEORY...HE..HE...HE...

U r passing through a very tough phase in your life and I know that since the past 3 years since I left Indore. It calls for some faith in urself and some reassurance. Believe me, there are geniuses and then there are mad geniuses.. u require two very important things right now... FAITH and FOCUS.... u can face major contradictions in life from time to time... But what the heck.. am sure U can get over it.
If u remember, the time I first saw u, I had just joined the college after quitting a career I dreamt and nurtured over the past 7 yrs. yea the armed forces.. I did leave NDA, but I egged on .. It's the same phase u r passing. And hope this qquote helps u in achieving what u want to
"Winners never quit, and quitters never win".. U know what u are, show it to others...

I am not very religious but fervently believe that God has a plan for everyone in life...some things are such that u cant do anything about it...no matter how much u try they dont work out....
Count ur blessings and u'll know u've been luckier than so many others...for eg. there is an entire wall of various ad cuttings at MICA and one of the ads if I remember correctly was of a NGO working for women's issues such as domestic violence...if u make it to MICA even for the one yr programs, do make it a point to read that ad....and then tell us if u r lucky or not....
All I am trying to say is that the worst thing u can do to yourself when in sh*t is to wallow in self-pity...
Always believe u r too good to fail in life...
