Here's a small website I've been updating over the last few weeks. Hope it helps.

Welcome! Common questions about MICA And their answers!

Please read this, it will answer most of your basic queries related to MICA.

Thanks a lot mate....appreciate your effort...

I have a small doubt...can anyone opt for more than one specialization...ofcourse if he is willing to do so....or maybe a major and a minor

Hey what were the cut off for MICA last year and how much do u except it to be this year?
Thanks Cheta

The website states that anyone with a CAT percentile of 90 or more will be called for the subsequent stages provided he/she has 50%ile in Qt, 50 in DI and 60 in verbal

Hi evry1,

Firstly, gr8 initiative by MICAns...esp. chuck_gopal & bschoolalumni. This thread rocks!!

I'm an engg. (CSE) student frm Govt. Engg. College, Ujjain (MP) & of course, a MICA aspirant. I hv some questions to ask all senior pagals in MICA.

1. What exactly is MICAT? Can I get a sample paper from somewhere? How does one prepare for it?

2. Please explain the GE process in detail.

3. What are the MICA Gods looking for, in a candidate at the time of GE/PI?

4. Are there any essays that an aspirant has to write during GE/PI or MICAT? (I saw fleeting remarks about this in the thread, but would love to get the whole picture.)

5. This one is outright silly, I know, but still....The website says last date for registration is Jan 17 '09...does that mean I can register myself after CAT? That would be awesome!

6. I've been a debator, a playwright, an extempore participant, School Head Boy, essay writer, cricketer, advertising contest enthusiast etc. Now, I've a blog too, albeit going through infancy right now!:laugh: Does the extra-curricular side of mine suit the MICA milieu? (I may not have certificates to show for one or two of the above! )

Senior MICAns, plz pour in with ur views...an early and thorough reply is what I request for!!

Thanx-a-ton in advance!!!

Abhishek

@megha.angel03

I am no mica student. I am a mica aspirant just as you are. I am telling u from what I have read and heard from seniors. Mica will do shortlisting for micat on the basis of CAT/GMAT score....BTW mica is not just for advertising. Mica provides PGDM in communications(Integrated marketing communications).But mica degree will help you if u wanna get into advertising. What it means to us? We get to learn the concepts of marketing just as the student of any other b-school. But we use communications as a tool. I mean with marketing we study additional media part ie how to use media as a tool for marketing. We can specialise in different fields of communication like account planning for advertising industries(like lowe), marketing research for marketing research companies(like AC Nielsen org-marg), media management for media agencies(like mindshare) or brand management and get into any company...MICAT is the second stage of mica selection process. Read the previous mica threads to know the details about MICAT.

@namanagarwal

PG does not allow comparison of b-schools. Every college is good in its own way. But as far as communications is concerned, mica is god. You wont find an institute in asia that better than mica in communications.
Mica doesnot provide courses in finance. But if you wanna study marketing, mica is the place.

I hope I have had a decent shot at clearing your doubts.. Seniors, correct me if I am wrong...

cheers

I din't get it , 50%ile in maths DI,Maths and 60 in Eng.Is is so

Those are the cutoffs
and if mica is the best in asia for communication mgmt, then which is the best in thw world for the same or comes close to it?

@ashish_aqu

yes that exactly what i meant.. let me make it a little more specific

cuttoffs:
quant- 50
DI- 50
verbal -60
and if u are applying through gmat 600 is the cutoff.
@sweetsour8:

There are many good institutes...IE business school, madrid is probably the best in the world. However thay dont call it mba in communications. They rather call it master in marketing management. But that is a rather expensive school. 40000 euros per annum + living expenses. They do provide placement assistance.

London college of communication is good in course content but they dont provide placement assistance..So in this aspect we can call mica better....at the end of the day, the call is urs cos its u who knows what u want...if i want global exposure and cross cultural interaction and industry interface, i would probably choose a college in the US. the criteria is different for everyone.

But i have my own reasons of choosing xyz college.

Yes, you can. There are four specializations at MICA: Account Planning, Brand Management, Media Management, Marketing Research. You can specialize in two of these, or take one and a sprinkling from the other courses. Cafeteria approach :)

Read about the courses here: Welcome! Common questions about MICA And their answers!

This year the cut off will be:

Overall: 85-90 percentile
VA: 65 percentile
DI: 50 percentile
QA: DI: 50 percentile

MICA has a very strong marketing course - all aspects of marketing - communications, advertising, research, media - are taught here, and MICA is the best in its field. There is no finance specialization at MICA.

Probably some school in the USA

Good stuff there... I didn't know about the other colleges myself... Thanks :)

MICA's course is very India-centric... Indian markets, rural, etc.

Just if anyone is interested...

MICA is looking for a PR manager

Thanks a lot chuck....

Can someone help me out here. The mica website says that GMAT score CAN be accepted in lieu of CAT. Does it mean that if I submit both the scores, the CAT score will be given preference. BTW my gmat score is 700 and i am taking CAT on 16th nov 2008. If preference is given to CAT score, then will it be wise to submit the CAT score.

question...

I went through the MICA course structure on their website..seems similar to marketing. So what's the difference between studying at MICA or doing marketing specialization from any of the B'Schools?
