Thanks for the info! So if we go by last year's trends, people with the waitlist of around 75 will be able to convert this year :)

Also, those who have already converted please post your academic record, work-ex and CAT percentile

Thanks

I am waitlisted arnd 15...So i think it will be comfortable enuf for me...

But m not takin up this offfer...Its another yr of mocks and CAT waht i deserve..
no doubt that HR is very good course...but I believe that there is no point in doing a second rung course from a first rung college..Since PGP is the flagship course i doubt that HR will get all respect/attention it deserves....

Anyways...Cheers to those who are joining...

Hmmm....Since PGPM does not offer HR as a specialisation, I guess PGPHR has its own charm. Its a great insti for those who specially want to do HR.
But, nevertheless, I am waitlisted below you. So thank you for not taking it up. It increases my chances of a convert Just kidding!

hello puys..I have converted PGP-HR..I am quite happy with it but i would appreciate if some HR seniors can answer few of my questions....

1. PGP-HR being a tier 2 course commands the same respect as PGPM or not.
2. Is it worth it to spend 13 lakhs and more over 2 years with PGP-HR.
3. Do the HR guys get the same opportunities as the PGPM ones.
4. are U(seniors) happy after taking up HR.

thanx in advance as the answers to these questions will definitely help to make our decision..

Hi..

1. PGP-HR being a tier 2 course commands the same respect as PGPM or not.

First of all I think, there is a very big confusion here..HR is not supposed to be a Tier II course.., it is for those people who have decided that they want to opt for HR specialization..So in noways it is less respectful than PGPM
The course structure is so designed that in first year HR people study almost the same subjects as PGPM people.

2. Is it worth it to spend 13 lakhs and more over 2 years with PGP-HR.

As far as worth spending is concerned...it is individual choice whether you have taken your decision at this point of time to pursue career in HR or you want to still further explore and understand.

3. Do the HR guys get the same opportunities as the PGPM ones.

The opportunities for HR people are same as in any other BSchools like TISS or XL PMIR, and if u compare with PGPM course for most of the companies be in FMCG , IT, Retail or Banking industry both for summers and final placements recruit from both HR and PGPM.Since the batch size is less for PGHR intake is proportional.

4. are U(seniors) happy after taking up HR
This is very subjective question... define ur parameters of being Happy ???

thanx in advance as the answers to these questions will definitely help to make our decision..

Further queries regarding course structure, placements etc are welcome...
Cheers :)

Hello there,
Sorry i could not gather your name from your post....so answering your questions:

1) MDI HR is a specialized course and it is standalone course. It would be wise not to compare it with the PGPM course at MDI as PGPHR has been brought into existence by collaborating with the National HRD network which is a specialized body of HR professionals like Nasscom. So that answers your query about recognition
2) Worth or not worth is upto you to decide. All I can say is there are loads of opportunities for those who have the drive in them to make it good for themselves. So if you believe in yourself and your worth, then go ahead and invest in yourself.
3) Yes hr guys get similar if not same kind of jobs as HR is a specialized function and we do get the best in the HR world. I for myself is doing my internship at one of the best places this year
4) Speaking on behalf of the HR batch 2008-10, we are proud to be in PGPHR and more to be a Mandevain.

Guess that answers all your questions...if you guys have anymore queries, do shoot them and we will answer them all. But my sincere request to all the aspirants is please do not rank, judge institutes an courses on baseless grounds unless you guys have authentic information. I am sure all of us are mature people and know how to behave on public forums.

Thanks and all the best to all aspirants

Those who would be joining MDI, welcome to MDI 😃

hey.. a person will always say good abt the college he is in.. so talk to variety of ppl before u judge a course..
and one thing.. u forgot TISS or u kept it above XLRI-HR..
anyways.. congrats for converting XLRi.. but update urself with right info before u suggest anythin to others..
MDI students r still waiting for placements.. but this does not mean that college is not good.. MDI is still one of the best campus.. but for PGDM course... i am really not sure abt HR..
I didnt mean to hurt anyone.. i am just quoting facts..

well i dont want to get into any arguments... but just get the facts straight....

when i said i met up with some HR snyrs in my intw at MDI... and about the feedback.. i meant to say abt the various roles n profiles they were offered... Look MDI is a colz sitiated in the corporate hub,,,,,, i dont knw if i shld be quoting this........ but MDI HR ppl are actually doing live projects with the best of industry say L n T... n the things which they offered to the industry is actually being implemented......
n so to say what's the point in comparing the PGPM n HR course. if u have an inclination or interest towards the HR field...... thn pursue....rather i'ld suggest just go n have a look at the WHY HR? thread in PG itself u will get a fair idea...

moreover i'ld like to ask one q to all of u frnds who are contemplating on joining HR? y did u fill the form in the ist place..... if u are unsure....

n for ppl who are willing to join... thn i can assure u atleast as a fellow puy that u will be enriched n enjoy ur next two years at MDI...

n if u have entrp plans then u can very well pursue the same in ur MDI days. a lot of start ups are done by MDI students.. moreover snyrs must have talked u abt UNNATTI......

so frnds talk to snrys..... n take advice frm well known ppl... gauge ur interest n take ur choice.....

n once again i'ld like to thank...... Mr. Amit frm the MDI HR batch,,,,,,, for being a gr8 mentor.......

cheers........ btw me joining XLRI BM course.....

What a balanced analysis ankit. Kudos!!!!!!

One thing that i would like to add is-
Ask urself 1 question- R u joining HR only because u have no other calls OR u r joining because u r interested in HR?

If u r joining HR fr the 1st reason - Think! Think! Think! and Plz Think!
If u r joining HR fr the 2nd reason - MDI is a great place to study HR fr all the reasons quoted by seniors and fellow peers in th thread.

All the Best!!!!!!

@Seniors
Firstly, really appreciate your coming on board to resolve our queries.

What are the major differences(if any) between the content of the MDI HR course and the PMIR programmes offered by other colleges.Does it have a greater emphasis towards Corporate HR or is the course all-encompassing,allowing us to choose electives to suit our needs?

Cheers.

Hello Sunny,

My apologies to you and all the aspirants who have been waiting for a reply from our side. We have been a little caught up in the intenship work so....anyway coming to your questions....regarding the difference between the HR course offered by MDI and other colleges:

a) there are 4 major players in the HR sector, XLRI, MDI, Tiss and SCMHRD
b) All these institutes offer all the major courses of HR but then the difference comes in the faculty pool that we have. For instance the Faculty at MDI are corporate consultants and therefore MDI has a higher inclination towards the corporate HR. Similarly the other Colleges may have faculty who might be experts in other areas of Human resources therefore the institute gets branded on those grounds
c) Choosing subjects...yes you get to choose from a basket of electives and the practice of electives precisely to encourage independent thinking and choosing what interests you the most.....

I guess this answers all the parts of your questions and do not worry....you will not regret joining MDI HR.....if you are joining us...welcome to MDI....

All the best to all and do keep in the flow of questions and we shall answer them all.....join the orkut community for PGHR 2009...

bye bye

First of all thanks Priyanka and Archana for clearing my doubts...and i am really sorry if i have hurt any feelings....

And the final decision is I m joining MDI-HR...hello to all my future batchmates..

cheers

Hi Seniors..
Please let us know the waitlist movement for PGPHR Last year. 40 buffer calls are given and my waitlist number is 13. So, taking these into account, can you plz let me know abt my chances.

Also, I had posted a few queries earlier in MDI results thread but poor post was gathering dust in a mammoth pile of PGPM related queries ! So posting the relevant ones again. Please reply !

1) What sort of profiles have been offered to PGP-HR students during Summers and Finals this year?
2) At the cost of being cliched, I would like to know about the placement scenario - highest and approx average package for HR? ( Asking out of curiosity although the reply to this question would not influence my decision ).
3) I have a 3+ non-HR experience. Will that go against me during final placements? I had this doubt coz I checked the profile of current students - hardly anyone from HR has 3+ experience. Any specific reasons for the same?
