Hi Deepti,
Let Us Shorlist the Institutes .... (seldom od we get the chance!)
With an economics Honours .. even if you are very sure abt the specialization ... Finance might be the brighter side. Marketing is also one of the options .. One more good option that you have is is the International Business (IIFT).
Regarding HR .. you need to decide it right away .. whether you want or you dont want!
Skipping the Awaited results for the moment...
You have three choices
SP Jain Mkt
MDI PGPM
MDI PGPHR
Here you go into two paths:
HR or Mkt/Fin
Hey if you understand what HR Mgt is all abt .... you will out right get a clear picture .. whether to pursue it or not! Revert if you need help in this regard.
Case 1: HR
You have the best choice. Dont give a second thought ..... join MDI PGPHR.
Reason: You r right ...... only choice for HR.
Case 2: Fin/Mkt/Others
If you are completly lost and are not able to decide for the trade you want to pursue .. go to MDI.
Reason: You get a chance to interact with students ... faculty ... and then you may decide the electives you want to take. May be after an year you want to come to finance. May be ..........
Had you opted for Finance in SP. You had a very very tough choice. "cause Finance over there is truly amazing. I had myself attended a lecture of Mr. Nilesh .. and Boy I tell you ... you would love to be taught by him.
You have opted for Mkt in SP jain. But lady....... MDI is known for its Mkt. As a matter of fact it has been Marketing itself extensively for last couple of years.
There are other factors too that you need to consider ... Location.
No you got it wrong this time. I am not talking about your mobility. I am talking abt the location of the Institutes w.r.t. each other.
Come to SP Jain and you are in Mumbai. It is generally said that there are two types of MBA schools in India... One which is not in Mumbai .. & one which is Mumbai. Schools here do get the benefit of being in the financial capital, and no .. I am not talking abt the Placements. Here you have more occurrences of interaction with the people in the industry. In fact many visiting faculties in many top schools here are from big shot companies.
Placements too are made at an ease (But this criteria is for schools not in the top league) For the options that you have comapines would go anywhere.
Come to MDI, Here you do not have as much Rush. But that is not what is concering you. There is one thing very Interesting here. Do not go by any rankings of B Mag. Use your knee (brain)........... MDI is the best in the North. Here you are not competeing with anyother institute w.r.t. industry exposure, w.r.t. Summer training, w.r.t. placements.
Back in mumbai .. you have to give a tough fight.
Forget about NITIE, IIT Powai, NMIMS, Jamnalal.........
The Heavy weight IIM A also lies in the Western Region as does SP Jain. (No Comments)
****************************
Now let us get back to all the options. If the results would be out before the last payment of all the institutes.... you may have a clearer idea.... (if not more confused)
If they are to come at a later date . dont think of them .. pay the first installment of the institute of your decision. Then get back to thinking.
But anyways .. you have the better options already confirmed.

This reply I hope would help all those people who are having similar doubts & questions.

Helo all...
i got mah letter from MDI bout the Loan....
Pre sanctioned loan from SBI...for 7.5 laks....
i just need 3.5 laks...the rest i can furnish myself...
:whatthat: is it entirely nessecary that we get the 7.5 laks?
if i do get a 7.5 lak loan...can i put 4 laks in an FD or in stocks?
to help me repay my loan faster?
how does it work...keeping in mind there was talk about a margin...where the bank pays anywhere from 95% to 100% of YOUR EXPENSES (for MDI there is no margin)
that means the banks obviouly expect us to furnish some proof about where the money is going...
so how can i show 7.5 laks worth of expenses if i need only 3.5??
any comments from any body?
Dude,
The scholorships for the exchange program are given out by respective universities, so the scholarship can vary across univs, the tution fee is waived for all univs so that reduces the expenditure drastically.
Other than that you would end up spending 75K to 1.5 L depending on the univ, your lifestyle etc., for a period of 3 months.
Don't worry too much about it right now, MDI provides one of the best exchange programs in the country.
Also adding to what DeMo had to say, your first term CGPA has an imp role to play for getting into the top exchange univs like the ones in France & Belgium.
Hope I have been able to clear your doubts.![]()
Regards,
Raj.
P.S yours truly is going to EDHEC, France.
thanx buddy
you've certainly help remove my queries abt the xchange programme... yours truly has Warsaw School of Economics on his radar
and hey, have a ball of a time at France... do post your experiences here

Totally unexpected question!!!! dude... 7.5 lakhs is the upper limit - obviuosy u can avail any amount lower than that - and in case ur loan is of amount less thatn 4 lakhs - u dont need to pay any margin!!!
So go for the required amount (3.5 lakhs) only!!
Cheers

Hi prateek...
about the loan thing....
sorry i was not clear enuf...
the thing is...
we all got a letter from SBI with the managers signature
and in the body of the letter he has sanctioned a loan of 7.5 laks
(hard coded as programmers wud put it)
at the discounted intrest rate...
i was just wondering....if we have to avail of the " special offer "...if we wud have to go
for 7.5 laks...
i was just thinking out loud....to see wat the others have made of the letter...
one qn...what 's the meaning of 5% margin.... does it mean that we get loan for 95% of expenses???.. i.e. 95% of 5.14L
Gordon Saysone qn...what 's the meaning of 5% margin.... does it mean that we get loan for 95% of expenses???.. i.e. 95% of 5.14L
yup...
thats sorta the interpretation...
and for MDI there is no margin...so they'll pay all ur expenses....
but bak to my Q....
if i got a loan for 7.5 when my actual expenses are 3.5 ...and i put 4 laks in shares or in an FD...
will it ruffel SBIs tail feathers...??
the earnings from all that capital mite make for easy loan paybak

Dude, which fixed deposit is going to give you an interest rate of more that 9.75% (which is the interest rate being charged by SBI)? Please let me also know if you find such a bank!!
As for shares, I think investing for "speculative purposes" ie stock markets etc might not be permitted. Even if it was, would you want to risk it?
I don't know the deal with mutual funds though.....as in what's the usual rate of return etc....
I'd say steer clear of such pangas.....these people are not newbies you know....

Just one info - b4 u can think of these money minting ideas!!! When an education loan is sanctioned there are three major points --
- You need to give details of every expense for which u want a loan (in case u want only for fees, the fee structure in brochure will suffice).
- You need to send the receipts of the expenses made by you whenever they occur.
- Most Important --> All mpney (expect for the that given for laptop etc.) will be given to you by way of demand draft in favour of the college !!

Always

Hi MDI Seniors,
Can you tell me the avg profile of students in a typical MDI batch........age, experience, % of freshers.......
Also, one clarification sought abt loans- we get a IT waiver only on the interest to be paid on the loan, rite?
Which means if I take 4L loan, for 4 years, then acc to Prateek's calculations I get a IT waiver only on ~1L (interest).
Hi Biggies!
WHat is the criteria for lateral placements? I suppose it is 20 months of work ex.
What is the procedure for it..... and are there any documents needed froom the previous organization to be eligible for lateral?
Those of you, who have couriered or mailed the drafts to MDI, have you got your reciepts back?
If not, then any idea how to get it back?
Also tell me the details of how to send and what things you included with it?
Hi.
I would be a student of MDI from june 2005 and right now I want to discuss something that I fell is important.
For the past one month or so, this is site is acting more as a marketing place and it looks like a battle is going on between institutes like NITIE, SP Jain and ours. With these inst also coming up their results, it has only gone fiercer. Each one is afraid of losing out the best students.
Now, I personally feel that when deciding about colleges, placements plays the utmost role and although all these colleges are on the same platform on this parameter, some more transparency is required.
NO NO. I am not asking you to quote nos. No college would be doing it and let it remain as it is.
But some other parameters regarding placements are also important that can be very well quoted.
a. What companies visited the campus last year.(only last year).
b. They recruited students for which verticles/specializations/profile?
c. How many for each company?
I visited IIM I's site and it is really GOOD.
Even spjain has come up with some informative facts regarding last year's placements.
I am very sure that our institute shouldn't face any problems in this area.
But if we really want to do this, then we have to be fast. It doesn't look good that people might leave our inst for a similar one and we keep on giving 360 calls and then some waiting lists as well.
So please do something regarding the same...
PS: Try to get our site revamped. It looks very old now. And again Plzzzzzzz be fast.
I think the idea about the site-revamp is gud - infact that exercise can done on an annual basis. It will add to the spunk.
Ofcourse the data etc should be up-todate, but I feel thats easier said than done. The current batch are already loaded with stuff, so this may not be very high on their priority. Maybe as the joining batch, some of you could raise this during the orientation program - that wont be such a bad idea.
The website was totally renewed just last year - and another over-haul is on the anvil (work is going on)... so probably a new site will be in place quite soon!!

Hi Piyush,
Guess I'll be meeting you in June π
If you go back a few pages, there's a post by raj_rome_roman abt placements @ MDI and it's pretty comprehensive, shud answer most of your queries.
And just a thought that I wished to express for quite sometime-while placements are important, they should not be an overriding criterion. According to me, a B-school should primarily be treated as a school, as a centre of learning. By limiting our judgement based only on the placement,we are kinda treating the place like a recruitment centre
