hey! i had started a thread long time back about this, but that died an unreplied death. :)

You cant get into good univs with ONLY TOEFEL, u definitely need either a GMAT or a GRE score for that, depending on the requirements of the program. are you gonna pursue MS finance from a b-school or a tech school? hope you are aware of the different flavours of MS finance. i`m keeping the MS finance option open as well...so lets keep this discussion going...could you post your detailed plans and profile here? i`m taking the GMAT on dec 8th, what abt u?

Yes, I've considered the course earlier, but for one yr. course, the fees comes to about 35-40 lacs., plus board and lodging, books, etc. which is prohibitive. No doubt, its a lovely course, nothing like it is available in India as yet.

the advantage of the course is that it is a 1 year course!! by the end of two years (including the year u underwent the course) , u are at breakeven!! which is not possible in any other course.....bit of a risk..but....its top notch and jobs are aplenty for this one!

Yes, return on investment will be there after one year, hopefully on Wall Street. By the way, what's the basic eligibility? I've done a 10+2+3 UG in Arts. I am planning to give both GMAT and GRE, which scores could they prefer? Also, getting funding can be an issue. Its a large amount, wonder any banks will provide such loans. Its mandatory to mention sources of income in your visa application.

Hi Buddy,

I am planning to change to M.S in Finance. I only have GRE Score. Here, it is a two year course in the college I applied. Can you please tell me what are the career options we have after M.S. I did undergrad in Computer science.

U hav lotta univs offerin MS Finance programs... As mentioned MFE Haas Berkeley is probably the best... But it doesn give u any kinda Financial Assistance... So u end up spending around 35 - 40 lacs.... N Indian banks only give u a loan upto 15 lacs... Check out a coupla other univs like Houston, SUNY Buffalo...

Check out Vany Owen...they have a 9 month course

hi..., can u suggest me whether GMAT is sufficient to admit in MS finance, either in uk or us..............................

Hey puys..

I was going through some threads regarding MBA in finance vs MS in Finance but could not find much.. was looking for some guidance
I had applied to ms financial engineering at Columbia university but am offered ms operations research.. this course allows a specialization in financial engineering( Degree is MSOR with concentration Financial Engineering ).. on the other hand I have an admit from tier 2 Indian b school (nmims) .. I wanted to pursue a career in finance.. what do u guys suggest is a better option..
Columbia has a advantage of being located in New York city and course is flexible.. its a masters program of 12 months which can be extended to 18 months.. But the job scene in US can be tough
On the other hand MBA is a more structured professional course.

The course curriculum for MSOR is M.S. Operations Research
These are the job profiles offered in the last few yrs MS Career Information

I have also added the link to placement profiles offered at NMIMS NMIMS: Student Business: Placements

I am basically confused between pursuing MBA from India or Going ahead with an Ivy league MS program..

Request for insight from fellow puys

I have the same questions. Answers, anyone?
