Hello All,
I am Arpitha Prakash, 2nd year MBA student at LSU (http://www.bus.lsu.edu/academics/mba/).
I will be using this forum to talk about my school (LSU) and the MBA program (LSU Flores MBA). I am more than happy to help the Indian students with their queries about LSU in general and specifically about the MBA program.
Regards,
Arpitha
Hi Venky,
Nice to see your post. Please fine below my comments:
Ideally a 640+ GMAT will increase your probability of getting an admission. If you can retake the GMAT and improve your scores then nothing is better than that. The MBA department offers scholarship & assistant-ship to candidates with high GMAT scores and good academic background and work experience.
The answers to your specific questions are :
1. Please see the below links for the fees
Full Time MBA - E. J. Ourso College of Business Flores MBA Program
Professional MBA - E. J. Ourso College of Business | Flores MBA Program
Executive MBA - E. J. Ourso College of Business Flores MBA Program
However, in case you end up getting a scholarship / assistant-ship then the fees will be lesser.
2. From my most recent knowledge 85% + students who graduated in the year 2011 from the full time MBA program were able to find jobs within 3 months after graduation. In my class many had an internship during summer 2011 and we are optimistic that most of us will be receiving full time offers as well.
Hope I have answered your queries. Let me know in case you need further information.
Regards,
Arpitha
Louisiana State University (LSU) is in the Louisiana states capital Baton Rouge. Baton Rouge is a medium-sized southern U.S. City. LSU is one of the most diversifed universities I have seen and this makes it an ideal match for international students to adapt easily in this place. Also Baton Rouge has easy access to other big cities such as New Orleans, Dallas and Houston. These can be potential desiatnations for job opportunities once you have completed your gradaution at LSU. The surroudings and environment in Baton Rouge and specially in LSU in terms of safety, law and order is also good. The police often patrol near the school, day time school bus facility and night time transit service on campus makes it ever more safe.
In terms of cost based on the facailities that are offered a single room rent may range betweem $250-400, and living expense may range between $200-300. So a very comfortable life as a student can be led with $700 per month.
LSU's campus is very beautiful. Following is a brief discription about LSU that can be found online: "The Louisiana State University is the nation's 20 most beautiful college campus one of the main campus building and more than 250 buildings, concentrated in a radius of 260 and more than one million square meters of high ground. campus was originally designed to use plaster in northern Italy during the Renaissance architectural style red roof, while successfully integrated the ancient architectural style. During spring, campus is filled with blooming flowers, summer is the lush greenery, lush green in autumn to storied dye. Cooling off campus year-round water, green grass. ". LSU campus provides a good ambience for studying to students!
LSU's MBA program (E.J. Ourso College of Business) is in a stage of rapid development in recent years, the number of students and the employment situation has been steadily increasing. LUS MBA ranked No. 48. Return on Invest in the U.S. ranked 26th. LSU's MBA program in-state tuition and fees for one year is very reasonable, even if international students can afford. Program to the students while providing a variety of assistantship and scholarship. I you are eligible for a full assistantship, you do not pay tuition, you can also get good wages to pay living expenses, more importantly, can be personally involved in the teacher's work program and studies, is a rare practice experience. FINANCE
The fundamental concepts in finance are risk, return, and value. To do business, a company must face risk. To survive, it must create value for its shareholders. Finance includes the study of corporate financial management, as well as financial markets and institutions and the raising and investing of funds. As a finance student, you will investigate the ways risk, return, and value interact in the business world.
All Flores MBA students take BADM 7090, Financial Management. Students who wish to specialize in finance should take FIN 7826, Investment Analysis and Portfolio Theory, in the second semester of the first year. Students can then build their own concentrations.
Brand, Marketing, Courses
The LSU Department of Marketing has developed a Brand Marketing Specialization that is consistent with the strong emphasis on branding that is prevalent in many companies, organizations, and even personalities. The brand marketing specialization is comprised of three courses that teach essential skill sets in: (1) consumer behavior analysis, (2) marketing research methods, and (3) strategic marketing. As can be seen in the flow diagram below, these courses are taken in sequence (after the Marketing Administration course required of all MBA students) in building -block fashion. The capstone course integrates the three predecessor marketing courses into a brand marketing project, typically in partnership with a company or organization with strong brand marketing emphasis.
LSU was endorsed by the Institute of Internal Auditors as the Pilot School in 1985 to develop an innovative educational program in internal auditing. Today the LSUCIA is a center in the IIA Internal Audit Education Partnership Program (IAEP). The LSUCIA program is a multidisciplinary program with students
from many different business and non-business majors.
The program is available to any LSU student in any major.
The LSUCIA program, considered to be the premier internal audit program in the world, is a unique, dynamic educational program. It provides training to graduate and undergraduate students for developing an understanding about the internal auditing profession. The program was the first university-based internal auditing training program and was established in 1985. The program has become a model for similar programs in other schools and countries.
The LSUCIA program consists of three to five courses with an emphasis in internal auditing. Students must take a minimum of three/four courses to be considered as qualifying for the specialization designation. Several departments have differing course requirements for an internal audit specialization. Students should consult with their department for specifics. The program begins in January and ends in December.
The program has an optional, yet highly recommended, internship program. Each summer 100-150 students work on internal audit staffs in New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, Washington, Charlotte, Memphis, Houston, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, etc. A few of these internships involve international travel. The center has placed over 2,000 students in internships. The internship opportunity will eventually lead to full time offers as well.
The objectives of the program are for students to enhance career development, and receive internships, as well as full-time jobs.
