London Business School

The first Consultant was Jaambwant the Bear from Ramayana.
" Mere Vichaar se Angad 800 yojan ki chalang laga saktey hain par Hanumaan 1000 yojan paar kar jayengey" And thus Hanuman was made to take a trip to Lanka without Passport ... Point to be noted Jambwant did not have a confirmed kill in the entire Ramayana and only a consultant can make a monkey out of a God and make Him jump without thinking of the consequences.

Thank God it was Hanuman.

BTW Omkar. Merey funday clear karo bhai... what is the difference between a CA final and a CA .

abey ek aur ek aur....

Those who can't do Teach and those who've never done Consult. Remember Jambwant ... also joining company is Vatsayana.

Hallo
Thanks for reply. CA final means after this exam I will be CA.I am starting to gather information abt MBA early because I dont want to loose time after my CA, for getting in best school.
By the way I have visited LBS site & found that the duration of program is 15 month not a year I was thinking that it is a year program
Also can you give me names of sites which shows ranking of one year programs?

Regards
Omkar

I want to add on something about the pink pound in the GB Economy ... but want to know more ... pray, elaborate.

No my dear friend, you're mistaken....
The rub of the pink is not in the european market..

This alumni who was the speaker at the session.... (am not caring to mention the credentials by his name due to space constraints) said his first stint as an entrepreneur was to identify that the best section of the market in the US were gays!!

Some weird theory these marketing gurus blurt at the drop of a pin, right? WRONG!!

Here goes..
Doing things that you like without minding social pressures is something you associate with gays.
Plus... No kids!!! No liabilities!! --> More money for pleasure and fun

And there you found your potential customers.

Hence they happen to hold the best promise for a successful business segment!!
And thus spake Asif Ali....

Wud post the whole experience soon.
The LBS appln is consuming a lot of my time....

Cheers,
Aks

Naheen yaar... the Pink Market (Gays and Women) have been the drivers of the soft lines (clothes and cosmetics and accesories) and the leisure segment (vacations and travel) for quite some time now --and UK also had a Gay Tourism Year some time back.

So this is not exactly news....

Best of luck with LBS Apping.

Omkar.
HKU is a good college and the program they offer is definitely a decent (contentwise) program.

I belive the best aspect to the HKU-LBS is that it is a local (S Asian) program and you will have an exposure to the greater SE Asian diaspora; which in the Indian Colleges read IIMs and ISBs you will not get.

The other factor is proximity ... most of the current crop of managers from the SE Asian companies of Mandarin Origin have managers from the Continent (UK) or from Hong Kong, Singapore or Manila.... again Indian Colleges' passouts are fewer in number.

Lastly, if you are planning to move in Retail / Manufacturing / Supply Chain Management or Advertising (Thailand is hot) or Marketing then HKU-LBS would be good. If you want to get to a Finanace Consultancy- then I belive a HKU-LBS would actualy mean tough competition.

Cheers,
Harshg.

PS.. look at Aks's Manchester poll thread.... there is some reckoner questions I have posted there

Hey thanks harshg!!

BTW, this guy graduated in 1998 when LBS was just 5 yr old.
And this he narrated when he was in his 2nd year.... ie some 7yrs back!! :wow:

What I intended to highlight was the people there are very entreprenuerially oriented... and that was obvious in their interactions with the audience.

something out of nowhere and knowwhere (pun intended)

1) someone who has job security and a lot of debt would not think about further education.

2) hence in the Developed economies the Management Colleges have courses catering to niche segments eg Entrepreneurship or Intellectual property management.

3) this ensures that the mid-career manager (the typical market for an MBA program) choses a college and a course which he or she has identified as a skills upgrade.

4) the fun part is that the MBA Curriculi do not teach functional skills at all they teach theory only....and that too old theory. ( rule of the thumb what is being taught has been alredy done in the industry)

Entrepreneurship or Intellectual property is more relevant in developing economies than developed ones.

Highly focussed young applicants are the target audience, too.

both of these are examples ... and the reference is the niche courses. I haven't even ventured into the context of developed and underdeveloped economies. BTW we still do not have a "bouquet of courses available" in a single management college in Asia... with the possible exception of INSEAD in Singapore.

I agree, . But take a guess, why the average age of the Intake batch is close to 28 years and not 22 years .
Guys, I don't know if you are aware of it. But just fyi, I got dinged without an interview at LBS. Have done a lot of introspection to find the right reasons. Let me know if I can answer any app related query.

Oh yea - 12K+ rupees and not even a polite feedback at the end of it all sure hurts 😞

Arun

Tough luck, Arun. You had apped for which round?
I suffered the same fate in round-3. (Anyways, it was a long shot). Did LBS give any feedback on your application? (other than the "this year was competitive" thing?) Where are you headed then? It's time for contemplation for me abt the apps to top tier schools.

A bit of relief that I landed on the intended school after searching for LBS . (albeit too late for me).

Yes its me finally!!

Sorry for being missing all this while..
Had been on the outdoors and then with the almost eternal seeming dilemma - to app or not to app.

Finally, after weighing for the pros and the cons, I have decieded to go for it!!

Speaking to the alumni and the existing students really helps a lot.
They can give you an insiders perspective to the school.... which is what you need when you write essays.

Personally, had been to London for 3-4 times... to meet the students, alumni... and it was worth every visit in the evenings after office hours.

Cheers,
Aks
