Hello Ppl,

We would like to share the latest press release by The Hindu about our Development Immersion Programme.
FINAL CAMPUS PLACEMENTS STARTS TOMORROW. (31 OCTOBER 2013)
Feedback from the students of 2013 passed out batch.
I'm here to say something about my college, Thiagarajar School of Management. College experience is likely to set a person's career and creative potential. The transition of a student from the fun and carefree college campus to a sophisticated corporate office is a remarkable step. The thought of entering a formal and competent corporate environment often brings mixed feelings to a person. But I must tell you the fact the degree of this feeling was very much less as we have had a great exposure and heard experiences, which actually bought us less tension. Some of the people find this transition simple and favourable, while others find it difficult to catch up with the corporate culture and fast paced life. Simply meeting new people has been our favourite thing in college. When I got to meet so many new people from different places, different tastes, different ambition and different thoughts actually made me understand what life outside was. There were a lot of ambitious people in this college, including staff and students. It isn't easy to find someone into the same things as you but then activities happening around in the college actually made me to gel with everyone pretty comfortably which actually help me handle situations and people at office with ease. It has provided me with the necessary tools to enhance my skills more, taught me valuable knowledge about this diverse world and people and concepts in general, concepts of management and eventually will enable me to become more successful in life. It also has stressed to me the importance of thinking critically and asking questions in many situations. Without doubt, this actually helps. All these aspects of college have also made me well-rounded as a person. Many projects and assignments were actually tough and competitive. Somehow we completed the assignments with good grades. But lately I realized, it was actually easy and very much there, but then with a little push. This has helped me handle pressures at work place more effectively and efficiently.
I still vividly remember my first day in college. College felt like a liberation for me since I was far away from my family. It was my first time to be separated from them. It did require some attitudinal changes, to actually the showcase the real me and to handle tough times to survive in the new environment, independently. In the corporate life everyday would be an examination as you would have to work on various projects and deliver it within the given time frame. With pride I will tell that I am able to deliver projects on time only because of the effective timelines that my professors gave me during college. One more extraordinary thing that I learnt in this college is to be a good listener. It is not only enough if you speak but also should be able to listen to what others speak and also consider the decisions taken by them. We had quite a number of events happening along with regular classes, like organising events, practicing for cultural event, sports time and not to forget assignments and tests. We learnt to prioritize things and this has been a great advantage when corporate life lines up meetings and reports that were pending to be sent to your boss. Trust me TSM has made me confident to experience the transformation from C2C (College to Corporate) with no difficulty. Thank you TSM!!

€‹I would like to share some tips while mentioning the area of interest in resume. Usually we used to mention our domains generic like MARKETING, FINANCE, OPERATION etc., which in turn in panel interview helps the interviewers to throw questions on you in various dimensions from that area, that brings the complication because the answer may be known or may not. Instead if the domain area specified in your resume is narrowed down it will make the interviewer to ask questions only from that specific area. I would like to share my own experience here. I attended my Tata Consultancy Service Ltd campus interview were I has mentioned my area of interest as SERVICE MARKETING. I was strong with the basic concepts in that particular area, so it helped me to answer the questions comfortably. If I had mentioned generically it would be hard to handle the questions which may be from any spread in marketing area. So it is better to make your resume in a way that you can handle the questions easily.
It was one of the major reasons which helped me to crack in to Tata Consultancy Service Ltd. I am very much thankful to Thiagarajar School of Management for setting up the platform for my excellence.
Hi all,
In the midst of our busy academic schedule, I clean forgot to mention the awesome trip we had a few weeks ago. Right from the day when the trip to Ooty was announced for the 1st years,we knew it was going to be fun! There were literally no absentees for the trip. The trip was planned from 21st to 23rd of September. I still remember the boys and girls who rushed to beauty saloons on the 20th to get their hair done. The buses were here in the campus by 10PM and after a small briefing from the faculty, the trip to Ooty had begun!
Ooty, also known as Ootacamund, is located in the mountains of Nilgiri and is positioned at an altitude of 7500 feet above the sea level and is approximately 310Kms from Madurai by road.
The onward journey to Ooty was fun filled. The buses halted at 12:00AM for a Birthday celebration. It was Mr.Kannan's birthday and i bet he would never forget this birthday. The buses resumed the journey after the celebrations were over.It was 6 in the morning and we halted at Mettupalayam for refreshments. We were starting to feel the cold already! A mild waft of Eucalyptus smell filled the air even though we were inside the bus and we could feel the temperature dropping outside. The bus reached Ooty at 9:00AM.
We stayed at a resort in the outskirts & not in the city as it makes you come more closer to the nature. Our resort was beautifully placed on the steps of a hill which showed the tea plantation around. As you enter the balcony, you can really get swayed away by the beauty of the climate & nature around.
After resting a while,we left to a place called the 7th Mile. This place would be familiar to you if you had watched Tamil movies of the late 80′s and 90′s.There was no better place to shoot duets than the 7th Mile those days. The students were divided in to teams of 8 and a faculty was appointed as a head to each team. The faculty had planned for a Kite flying competition, the materials were distributed to all the teams and it was when it started to rain!Even though it was drizzling, the teams continued in their pursuit of making a kite. It was getting colder every minute and the steady rain made things difficult. Even though the task of flying a kite was not accomplished successfully by the teams, the students gelled very well as a team! There were a lot of slipping and falling on the way down the hill. It was time for camp-fire after the dinner.Students and the faculty danced to the songs by the Dj.It was fun altogether! The night was one of the coldest many had experienced!
The next morning after our breakfast we headed for the Botanical Garden.Actually it's a small hillock with dense vegetation. It felt like heaven to walk amidst beautiful plants and trees and in such a beautiful weather. The teams were given a task of pasting as many names of their friends in a piece of chart. It was followed by a strategy game which only one team managed to crack We stayed in the Garden for more than 3 hours and I think we have not yet seen the entire garden.Maybe next time!We visited the Tea factory in the afternoon after lunch and it was quite an experience. The camp-fire was a bit different from last night's. The faculty were given opportunities to showcase their singing and dancing talent.Actually we have loads of singing talent among our faculty Prof. Raghupathy was at his awesome best and Prof. Manjula made the students sing along with her! The dancing part was carried out very well by Prof. Selvalakshmi and Prof. Mutharasi. Prof. Balaji with the mike in his hand was at his usual best! The night ended with Mr. Sudharshan's birthday celebrations.
Finally it was the day when we had to leave. We took a small walk from our resort to the Lake for our boating adventures! Even though the water was little stinking, the beautiful weather and wind makes the ride one of the most beautiful experiences. We wanted to go on horse riding and mountain biking also, but we postponed them for our next visit.
The three days passed by just like a flash. Certainly one of the happiest trips that we had been to!I could tell by the faces that no one wanted to leave Ooty. The bags were packed and we left to Madurai after lunch. Its actually fun to be in Ooty!
It was my dream to do my MBA in TSM, and now that my dream has been realized, I'm relishing every moment of it. It been just five months since I joined, but it feels like I've been here for more than a year.
I'm a reserved person and was having doubts as to how I would mingle with my roommate and classmates. The various team building activities like Poster and face painting, IPL Bidding, Cricket, Marketing and Treasure Hunt (the most awaited event that I looked forward to) helped me to come out of my shell and made me feel at home in my college.
One thing that left a lasting impression in me is the surprise test that was conducted during the ORIENTATION PROGRAM. Since it was my first guest lecture, I was taking notes (I don't remember what came over me), which was very useful for the surprise test. It was then that I realized that my two years in TSM is going to be very different from my UG.
There is usually a comparison within us about our UG and PG days; I'm no exception to it. The one thing that is relevant among all the Professors I've seen in here is their passion towards the subject they teach. It's infectious; I never thought marketing is much more than sales but now I'm overwhelmed by the amount of work which goes behind it. “Professional Ethics” – I've heard this word being said many a times in the corporate world, never did I realize the enormity of responsibility it holds till I heard my Prof. Kothandaram speak about it.
Even though we have classes from morning till night, it doesn't pressurize me because I love what I do here, so the hardship doesn't matter.
Some events which happen in life bring a drastic change in us. These past few months has made me diligent, confident, and has opened a whole new world, which helps me to hone my skills. I'm sure that before I finish my MBA, I will be better equipped to face the constantly evolving corporate world.

Perry's - Field Experience to remember all my life
“Perry's Biscuits needs our help in positioning their brand,” I read the line again in the mail which I received one fine evening. This line really stirred me to enroll my name for the sales project. It is not only that I want to help Perry but I also want to know of what help I can be of to them.I was happy tosee 41like- minded people with me.
The Perry's team briefed us about what we have to do – Our job is to just set a stall in a weekly chandhai allover Madurai and sell the stock which they will provide at the pick-up point. It seemed to be new but quite easy on paper.
Teams were split up among ourselves with 6 in a team. We were 42 and boarded for the chandhai with expectations that it is going to be so easy. The Chandai was not big as we expected, moreover, we were the only ones who were going to sell biscuits and it was also a great opportunity to be the sole seller of biscuits in the whole Chandhai.
After igniting a verbal war between two vegetable vendorswe peacefully settled in a place for a stall and quickly arranged our stocks.
The market began to start and we were explaining about our product&its; features to those who passed by. None turned down. We hardly managed to sell a single biscuit packet. An onion vendor who was across our stall came towards us and purchased a packet of Rs.5 worth (I still believe he was impressed by our marketing skill).
For an hour we were hopeless. We were trying to sell but we were waiting for something else which we don't knowexactly. A mushroom vendornearby gave a mocking smile which meant to us that we weren't fit enough to do sales. Now this has become a matter of professional integrity and it stirred our emotions. We took some packs in our hands and reached customers with new energy.
We worked on what to say and what not to say to the customers and tried to sell again. It bore some results and many interesting customer experiences. Thanks to Mr. Ram a Maths teacher who gave some valuable suggestions in reaching the customers.
We classified the people in the market into two – ones who were going to shop in the market and ones who have finished their shopping. We divided ourselves to reach those two groups. And the strategy seemed to click and our sales boomed.
We learnt that every customer had different expectations from the product. A woman with 2 kids was concerned about the freebies along with the biscuits she was buying and a male who was in his 50s wants to try marie biscuits. And there was also an elderly couple who never turned to the side of biscuits but purchased some packets impressed by our communication. And there was also a school kid with stern face came in and enquired all varieties and prices and bought a bulk of goods. It seemed customers are now well aware of what is goingaround them and we have adapt ourselves to their psychology..
I was also able to correct my stereotypic errors. My initial assumption of filtering the customers at first sight proved me wrong. I learnt that every prospect can be converted into a customer – and all it takes is to engage them and communicate our product.
I felt that this was a great chance to learn customer behavior rather from the books. Other than customers I was also to get some links with the Nestle marketing team and was also able to attract other Big shots' attention.
Finally I learnt that pursuing an MBA alone won't make us a good marketer or a financial consultant or any professional. It requires some practical experience and thanks to my institution and Perry's company which provided a great platform for enriching our experience
After all Marketing can only be mastered with Field Experience!!!

ALL THE BEST.....!!! 😃
My life was quite usual after Engineering with a Software job in my hand. But the time was crucial when I had to choose between two letters in my hand- Call Letter and Admission Letter. I chose to pursue my higher studies after Graduating in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. I also decided to pursue my studies in Management after an year's thought, preparing and attending for Competitive exams on both Technical and Management front. That was the most essential period in my life, knowing the real me- A period of Self – Exploration.
My call was for Thiagarajar School of Management even though I had admission offer from some reputed B-schools in Bangalore and Tamil Nadu. I made the right call; TSM has given me ample scope to refine my thoughts and to prepare myself to the best for future. Students here are chosen on the basis of scores in competitive exams such as CAT, MAT, CMAT and the selection process is not only to test your potential but your values too, which is proven with the wonderful peer group with whom I have been cherishing since two years. Today, my institution has made me a better person and helped me fetch the position of Business Analyst at TCS. This Institution has transformed me from a Student to a Management Professional in a span of 2 years.
There are several business schools in different categories, but choosing the right one for oneself can happen only after thorough exploration of oneself. It's not just the matter of the B school's Brand, even before that, one should keep in mind that he/she will be a Brand ambassador after two years. TSM with the faculty support is commendable showing the meaning of team work and definitely I might be a brand Ambassador for my Institution in few years!!
Self Exploration is my key word of this article and I believe that's the key to open the right door for the next stage in one's life!!😁

Hi all,
I would like to share my interview experience that I had with TCS recently. The very first question made clearly demanded my presence of mind. “Consider yourself as a Currency, How would you value yourself”?? was the question. My level best I tried to answer, so much so the interview panel came up with tricky counter questions. Second question was about my Internship project. Considering interviewer as a school kid, I had to explain him about my project in an understandable way. And more questions were asked related to finance domain.
Apart from this little suggestion from me is; be careful in your hobbies that you add in your resume. Many questions are asked from the candidate's Area of interest also. About your strengths, explain few real life incidents to justify it as your strengths. Last but not least, be confident. After all, the interview panels look forward for just the confident answers and not the right answers always.
All the Very Best..!!

Hi all . Sharing some views on recent trends in internet marketing
SEO : SMO :: PROSPECTING : BRANDING
Search Engine Optimization(SEO), the marketing strategy which acts as a base for the sales which takes place trough organic search. It is securing as the main source of website marketing platform for recent years, which is focused mainly to acquire the customers who are in need and for those who are interested in information search about the product and service. Due to the evolution of e- commerce and increase in web users, SEO has become a main tool in increasing brand identity.
On the other hand advertisements through social media is a booming trend which improves the brand visibility of product in much cheaper way. Then came the concept of Social Media Optimization(SMO). It is identified that there is increase in sales through SEO than in SMO, but companies give more considerations for the brand visibility. It is the choice of company to use the optimizing technique for prospecting or branding.
