Life for a fresher is a lot different from what it is for a work-ex person. A workex person brings a lot of experience with her. But we freshers have only pure enthusiasm and passion to offer.
So here starting this thread to share experiences of what it is like to be a fresher at a top bschool in India.
@Aspiring freshers
Please pour in any query about anything
@Fellow freshers
Pour in your experiences 😃
Just to add one more category to what shankha had put up :
@Passed out freshers
PPl who have done their MBA and were freshers then are also welcome to post their experience here
cheers
Dont you guys think that the thread will serve its purpose better if it moves to Life @ b-school section......

Actually, one of the mods had this idea and he had asked me to start this thread. I think it is a wonderful concept where in freshers can interact with existing bschool students. If we move the thread to Life@Bschool section, they wont be able to post their queries and views as that section is meant only for current bschool students.
Anyway, if u r a fresher, do post about ur experiences at SIBM.

I understand your enthusiasm, but please note a few things:
1. We already have a section where we discuss such matters. This is not the one, no matter who reads it or doesn't. Life@Bschool is not meant for only Bschool students. It's meant for everyone. Just that the topic under discussion there is the life at a Bschool.
2. We also discourage opening new threads unless absolutely necessary. For this matter, you could have requested the mod to rename the old thread, and move it to the relevant section. Then you could have continued the discussion there.
3. I'm, personally, not sure how different a life will it be for a fresher from a work ex student. I mean, I have already been through an MBA, and I did not see any difference in how I lived my MBA and how my experienced and/or fresher room mates did. Hence the very need for the thread.
Anyways, I understand your enthusiasm. I recommend you PM a blue mod with the thread links of the old and the new thread, request him to close the old one, and move this new thread to the Life@Bschool section.

How do the freshers do in the final placements?
Can freshers get in to Consulting and I-Bank ?

If you don't qualify for laterals ( workex period differs across bschools) The difference is not much. In fact, in marketing, freshers are preferred.
Yes, you can get into consulting and I-bank, but your entry level may be different from a person who has had 2-3 years experience. In fact, I know a fresher from IIM-A who just returned from her summers from an I-Bank in Singapore.
So, let me tell you some of the things that I noted here in my first 2 months.
Some of the things that I had in mind when i joined were will i be able to 'connect' to what was being taught? Won't the others know more about the industry? How will I cope up with them? Should I have taken up the placement offers that I had got?
Learning from them has been a great experience. There were days when I learnt about Data Warehousing in the morning and automobile engine assembly plant operations in the evening from people who have worked in these fields. Also, the experience that they bring into the class discussions when any topic is being discussed is quite enriching.
But, this does not mean that the freshers does not have anything to offer. Many a times, we end up questioning standard industry beliefs. People who have worked knows that some standard process are followed in their industry and they have been following them for quite some time. We tend to drill down into the logic of following these processes.
The end result is an insightful debate and discussion in class.
Your views....

Dude you bumped into a 2 years old thread.And why actually you're going to each and every thread and posting the same information.It looks more of an advertisement than any Information.kindly refrain barging into old threads.
