Life @ MFC-DU

Hi! A very warm welcome to all of you!

Hi!
A very warm welcome to all of you!

It has been 17 days since the course commenced but everything here is happening so fast that i wonder where all these days have vanished.
The course officially kicked off on 16th of July but activities had commenced much earlier through a yahoogroup for our batch where v were asked by our seniors to send in articles for newsletter, get our business suits ready, etc b4 v all officially joined on 16th.
Finally it was 16th of July and the crazy wait to meet an all new set of friends got over. Some of us already knew about our other batchmates, thanx to the orkut community. But personal interaction is always a different experience. We were a small batch of just 42 students (i wud say this is one of the biggest positives of this course). The orientation began and v were first addressed by our HOD Prof. Sehgal and then by Prof. Muneesh. B4 i had joined, i was told by seniors and alumni that these two are the pillars of this course and a small intro. and pep talk by both of them made me realise why these two are so highly regarded by our alumni even when they all had passed many many years ago. V had a formal session where v all 1st year students introduced ourselves to all the faculty members and our seniors. And I was literally stunned when i was hearing out the profiles of my batchmates during their introductions. The only thought that was coming to me at that point of time was " ki bhai tera to patta kat gaya yaha par. How the hell r u going to compete wid dese guys?". Here students comprised of Commerce & Eco grads from top notch colleges like SRCC, Hansraj, College of Business Studies, St. Xaviers Kolkata, etc. Some ppl are already doing courses like CA, CFA, etc. Apart from them, there are a no. of engineers & some of them from ivy league colleges like IIT-G, IIT-K, DCE, NSIT, etc. And then there was more to come. There are ppl here with loads of work ex(6-7 have work-ex exceeding 4 years) with 60% of the batch having worked earlier. Add to this, there are ppl with varied backgrounds with even doctors, physiotherapists, microbiologists, english and history grads making the cut here.
B4 i cud get over this, the seniors started with their intros and their profiles were no different. Rather wo to hamare batch ke bhi baap nikale.
Then finally v had a tea/coffee & snacks session and to make things light, v had an informal session wid the seniors and dat was d best part of the day. I cud fianlly overcome my morning shocks.
And after lunch, v got to know that v'll have a lecture that day itself. Yaar ye kya hai! Pehle hi din classes.
But overall it was a gud first day. One that i'll remeber for a v.long time.

Life at MFC thus far has been a gud mix of of hectic schedules and in between them, some really gud enjoyable moments. In the first few days, v had to encounter GDs and Interviews for selections to our preffered committees/teams. Infact many of the guys had to go thru multiple interviews before selections could be finalised. Urs truly got selected to the Corporate Communications Team:). Here we have a total of nine committees/teams. They are - Placement Team, Convention Team, Alumni Team, Corporate Communications Team, International Relations Team, Cultural Team, Newsletter Team, Treasury Team and Web Team. The Secy. & Jt. Secy. for each committee are always from the senior batch. Also, the activities here are absolutely student driven. This makes it much more exciting and also provides the students a really gud platform for overall personality development.
At this point of time, let me also tell u that all the activities of the committees mentioned above are run under the ambit of a student body called AFCON (Association of Finance & Control).

Apart from committee selections, v had photoshoots lasting for 2 days. Now before u start thinking that whether it is a modelling college or a match-making institute, lemme tell u that it was all for the placement brochure Pata nahi placement brochure banane wale hain ya fir koi shaadi ki album? V were strictly supposed to be in our business suits. Yar wearing this formals is a very tedious job. Most of us here compare wearing business suits to wearing a VARDI.
Anyways moving ahead, v also had a mandatory course of Art of Living wich v had to attend in the evenings after our classes got over. It was a six day course and it was really gud. The day scholars got really late to get back to their homes(sm ppl reached their homes even aftr 11pm) bt the kriyas taught 2 us during the course were really helpful 2 re-enegise ourselves.
...to be continued...

Life here is quite different from a residential b-school. Here, as per the hostel rules, students from NCR region are not eligible for a hostel. This is bcoz hostel rooms are limited in South Campus and they are to be shared b/w students of MFC, FMS(MS), MBE & other courses. So they are no rooms left for ppl 4m NCR.
This means that there is a mix of day scholars and hostelers. Being a day scholar has its own advantages and disadvantages. The biggest advantage is that there is no home sickness 4 such students. Also the home-made food is always there. And yes a bit more independence. But then, i feel that travelling in NCR neutralises all such advantages (saying from my personal experience). But probably the biggest disadvantage is that day scholars like me miss out on the fun that takes place in the hostels. A hostel life is really exciting & different and v ppl really miss out on that front.
I'll ask some of my batchmates residing in hostels to come here and share their experiences. I m sure that [email protected] is definately different for those who are staying in hostels.

I had told u all in a previous post that all activities here take place under the ambit of a Student body called AFCON.
Now on 31st of July, we had a small event called AFCON Inaugural. This event officially marks the beginning of all the student activities under this body. It was a great priviledge for all the students to have Mr. Satnam Singh, CMD of Power Finance Corporation (PFC) as the Chief Guest for this occassion. He had an interaction with all the students for over an hour and lemme tell u, it was one of the best motivational talks i was ever involved in. Really look forward to listening him yet again in the near future.
He unveiled the AFCON Calendar for the coming academic year.
And apart from this, something REALLY BIG took place. He released the new curriculum for MFC. Guys this is a huge event in context of MFC. Our HOD and Professors had been working really hard for approx. 1.5 years to get the new course approved from DU Authorities. Anyone who has ever been related to DU would v.well know how difficult it is to get any approvals. But now that it has been done, Mr. Satnam Singh released the new curriculum on that day and all the students received it very warmly because we all here at MFC understand that this is a huge step forward not only for the students but for the brand MFC as well. The course is absolutely updated and v.well caters to the present industry demands. In words of our Professors - "We can explore much more about Finance and we are ready to take on the best in the business now".
Since then, the new course is the buzzword in the campus and there is a new sense of excitement among us, esp the junior batch bcoz this new course is applicable for the 2009-11 batch and onwards. We all really feel lucky to have made an entry into this course at the right time.

Since the past one week, all the committees/teams have swung into bigtime action. Normally our classes start at 9:15 and end at around 3:30-4:00pm. But after the classes get over, the students of most of the committees get engaged in committee meetings and other works associated with them. Some of the students are engaged in doing the works assigned to them by their respective committees even when the lectures are on:wow:.
We have a majority of our alumni working in NCR, Mumbai and Bangalore. So v conduct Alumni meets in these three cities in August and early September every year. Infact, Alumni Meet at Mumbai is scheduled for today and its on at this point of time:D.
Alumni Meets at Bangalore and Delhi are scheduled to take place later this month. So the alumni team is working extensively these days to get all the arrangements in place. Also this year we plan to conduct an alumni meet outside India because a good no. of our alumni are now working at different foreign locations. This plan is under the pipeline and i sincerely hope that it materialises. So the Alumni team is engaged with this task as well.
Also our flagship event Convention is scheduled next month and the preparations are on. The members of Convention team are also on their toes these days.
Placecom members have always some running to do and they are doing the same these days;). But they are doing all this for the cause of our college and our batchmates. A huge thanks to them:cheerio:.
Cultural Committee is busy with the arrangements to welcome all us freshers:-P. And then Corp. Relations team has its own agenda and targets to meet. So they too are busy!
All in all, a good exciting phase is on with so much happenning at the campus and with so much to learn everyday for everybody. We all juniors can get a good feel of things to come in the coming two years.

hi all

first of all i would like to thank gaurav aka maddy for starting this wonderful thread giving a peek into this quite an old but not so well known course. I also find it heartening to know that the junior batch 2009-11 are finding the course and its offerings exciting and yet eventful to their careers. yes we started way back in 1987 but still are new to the glitzy b-school world probably because MFC is not your usual MBA course, its an MS in finance but since wannabe students and more so the course structure itself is spanned out in such a manner so we can hardly complain.

I am from 2008-10 batch and I must admit that the first year has been quite an unforgettable one for me!....studies,somewhat sports( particularly in hostel where i stayed for a month and a half, since as maddy has already said NCR students arent allowed to be a part of one and so your's truly wasnt given that accomodation, but whatever stay i had there it was thoroughly enjoyable...late night movies, gup-shup...assignments..PPTs..parties and everythin...one can dream of)
then we have a lot of guest lectures, annual events..which everybody looks forward to since we get to interact with our well known alumni..which are def less than b-schools since the strength of this course has been less since its inception. And some valuable insight into their career paths and life since passing out of MFC....

overall I have def learnt a lot and still on this track!!

more to follow from me!!!

Hi puys,

m in 2009-11 batch. Life at MFC has been fair to me so far :-P.

i joined in with the expectation of meeting really interesting and capable people and that wish has been granted. profs are an interesting lot but the real gem is the diversity of the batch. we hv microbiologist, physiotherapist, textile enginners, civil eng, E&C; eng, computer science grads, ppl from banking, research, consulting, railways and truckload of software professionals. This given the batch size of 42. :wow:

No class goes by without an interactive discussion among teacher and students. every topic is dug to its mantle and analysed from all perspectives.

then we have numerous committes and joining atleast 1 of them is compulsory. being part of one gives you the feel of responsibilityin an organization. REAL COOL STUFF!

To introduce myself, i m a graduate from CBS DU, worked for a year with research company, cleared cfa level 1 and then landed up at MFC hopping over IMI, IMT-G Finance, and IIFT-K.
hey hiii... :D

before starting shooting out my reserve of life at MFC,here is my brief intro...Priyanshi Gupta,B.COM(H),DU...finally landed in the "finance resort-MFC" ...:D

so life at MFC...
Day 1-16th July 2009--:we were on the campus for the first time together..all clad in formals..each step of each one singing aloud the enthu of the new-new MFCians... :D

thrilled to meet the people at last with whom we chatted on g-talk or Orkut MFC-11 community...(though a few must not have been so thrilled who alresdy had an informal get together on 7th of May-the D-Day of elections in Delhi!!!) :D

each of us with a grin on face.. :-P

and then the welcome speech of Prof.Sehgal-HOD..wat a man of integrity he is!!! i became his fan the first day...

the end of orientation led way to the snacks tym..and i am not going to mention the snacks here to avoid distraction of my readers..:):-P;)

and of course we knew, dont we...dat seniors have more to savor that day besides snacks...yes..."the friendly intro with juniors"...
no no..no fears..it was full tym fun...my cheeks were aching aftr laughing out so much...we were literally hysterical sometimes...seniors rock!!!;)

and when we were thinkking that the day is over, one of the senior came as the harbinger of "the first lecture of MFC"-THE LAW LECTURE...

and though the lecture was way different from the boring one it used to be in graduation...the professor is a learned man...professor-cum-lawyer:wow:..but i was yawning and yawning..perhps because of accumulated sleep deprivation(we had a pre-session assignment of writing articles for the newsletter...)

well it was a satisfactory day overall...:D

then regular classes started from the next day...and we(the hostelers) were always the late-comers..people from Noida will reach at 8.45am and we the laziest creatures on South Campus,we will reach at 9.15 sharp...entering the class with professor!!!;):p

The photo shoot spree-and then it was the photo shoot session for the brochures and all...not much happening about it...just that we had to smother in the formals(of course with blazers) in the sweltering heat of mid-July...
but yeah there was fun in that too with the whole class together and no classes through out the day!!!

The Art of Living Workshop-23/7/09-28/7/09...this workshop was organised by our student body-AFCON...one of the best thing happened here since the day i came here!!:wow:
ultimate fun...thought-provoking and really a value-addition..something that so many people seek to learn but only a few get the opportunity to learn...i really loved it...those 6 days were the most hectic of my life but still the most treasured...i will want those days to come again and again...:D

Simultaneosly the selection process for various AFCON committes was going on...people wanting to get into some other...ultimately getting some other..there was selection through GD and interview...(as if GD PIs for admissions were not enough!!)...

31st July 09-we had the INAUGURAL of AFCON-our student body...Mr.Satnam Singh CMD PFC was the honoured chief guest:cheerio:...but unfortunately for me...jst 15 mins b4 the session,my foot got injured...doc plastered it amidst my tears and cries..and i was orrdered 21 days bed rest...:banghead:

though i got to know later that the session was extremely good..interactive and NOT boring...all i missed...:-(

then there were classes as usual-torturous..(as accounted by my tortured class mates..)...i re joined on 20th Aug..though i made an unsuccessful and painful came back on 10th too...(i was missing the crazyness of the class...AND YES I WAS MISSING THE SINCERITY OF PROFFS.TOO...perhaps an extended stay away from frns adversely affect your rationality...

and then when i finally re-joined the classes on 20th...got a nice welcome!!!:.and..i foung people here working like a bunch of busy ants for the two major up-coming events-THE ALUM MEET-DELHI on 29th Aug and THE CONVENTION on 12th Sep...

WOW!! m really waiting for them...to see the real lives heroes of the financial sector who will be honouring the events...

so this was upto now...

i will keep on updating you...same thread...same site...keep visiting..and yes pls write back...:D

Well friends,
I started this thread a few months back when i joined this college, was active on it for a few days but then went into a hibernation.
But life has been good and interesting since this course started and now its the time to again give you insights as to what's making my friends' and my life an interesting period here.
More of my classmates would be joining me in our endeavor to tell the world more about how's life here @ MFC.
Keep visiting this thread to know more about this rocking place 😃

Hi PGites,

This is my first post on this thread...
Mera intro to sun lo......Amit Sareen...Textile Engineer from TIT&S;, Bhiwani...the only person from textile background in the batch of MFC 09-11.

Well Gaurav, Satish and Priyanshi did a gud job on the thread...unfortunately it went dead.......hope dat will not happen again...

From my prespective [email protected] is not only Finance as I used to think before cuming here....I used to think dat people becum Fin Geeks here...mayb few of u may also think like dat...but MFC offers a lot more than dat...:cheerio:

We have so much to do other than studying fin...we have a number of student teams working through out for various events...we have planned a UGC-SAP seminar, ARVNEETI-our fest, a Cultural event and few more alongwith our regular guest lectures...

one of the integral and interesting part of [email protected] rather I shud say of South Campus is Satyaniketan aka SATYA... its the nearest and hapng place to hang out and almost everybody of our batch can be spotted der sum time or the other eating steamy momos or mouth watering rolls at chaurangi....

Well cuming back to acads...our 2nd sem has started....1 sem result is also out...which was not so gud and was a shock for me....

Will be writing more on the upcuming events and hope others will make my job easier...

signing off...

a Pagal MFCian...

hey thanx to XLence and saintly for joining the thread.
kisi ne to meri suni
well both of them are nice hearted guys. But lemme tell u some thing about both of them.

XLence is our sweat shirt guy. He took all the pains of getting the sweat shirt made from creating spreadsheets to designing to talking to the vendor. Hard working chap! But he is under a threat right now
Bhai yaad hai na that if we all fourty two students dont get our sweat shirts by tomorrow, den u can be publicly stripped off ur favorite red wali rbk sweatshirt that u r so fond off. Beware

And saintly is a guy who will give u only buks and padhai wala gyan. u could have made it out from the previous post that how much is he fond of the dreaded subjects that we study.
We all mfcians will tell u about [email protected] whereas saintly will tell u about [email protected] and yaa he is the right person for all study related queries although he is quite modest about telling about how much he studies. bhaisaab stood second in the class in our first sem and missed the top slot by a single percent. way to go :cheerio:

Puys,

I am Subhash aka sububhaai, an Electronic and Communications Engineer from GITAM Visakhapatnam, burned some circuits in my college time , then in the boom time the software industry recruited me , wrote thousands of lines of code, made lot of money for our clients, handled Database of TBs of data, and one fine day got my hands on the stock market and then as a cub tastes blood for the first time, i tasted the joy of making windfall gains in the market... and to make some more money (in fact a lot of money) i am here at MFC.

Well guys let me tell you about the recent cricket match we had with our second years. Took 3 wickets in one single over and turned the match :). Well that's what they say . Our seniors made a score of 65 in 12 overs and we had to chase... The match went into the last over, we 1st years needed 7 runs from the last over, and we were facing the furious of all bowlers from our seniors... Well 2 wide balls in the over relieved us... the seniors were under pressure... We won the match with 2 balls to spare... euphoria for all the first years... but we shook hands with the second years... as they are the people who guide us through every hurdle...

Well thats the update from my side...

Will come up with some more updates...

Next events on the anvil

regards and respect to my revered batchmates PRIYANSHI,SAINTLY,XLENCE AND SUBUBHAI.i m honoured and priviledged 2 b sharing space with them @MFC.first sem happily passed imitating profs, bullying and leg pulling each other, endless and senseless discussions in the canteen etc.merry go happy life was continuing until v were staring at the monster first sem exams.$MADDY$,SAINTLY,PRIYANSHI,XLENCE started thronging the library, scouting 4 notes and paying homage at the photocopy shop on a daily basis.but urs truly stiflered around the campus and njoying his honeymoon days.sububhai was creating google docs day in and day out on virtually every topic.exams were nt a race against time to solve questions but 2 sit ur a** out for 3 long hrs(tht takes smthing 4 doing).
new yr dawned and v started with r 2nd sem.new subjects, new profs bt same old habit of sitting in the first desk and sleeping.sm new activities demanded active partcipation 4m 1st yr students as part of succession planning.urs truly jumped in2 the ring and tuk the responsibilty of SAP EVENT alongwith sububhai and priyanshi as team members.just hoping v do justice 2 the event.
meanwhile results boomeranged much earlier 2 evryone's surprise and urs truly was down in the dungeons as xpected.saintly as evident stud 2nd(chatur ramalingam in the making).maddy, pri and xlence managed the threshold and sububhai gave me company(my true friend).
with determination in our heart and burning desire to take the 2nd sem head on v started nxt day with a renewed vigour only 2 daydream sitting at the 1st bench and 2 b preoccupied with the sap wrk.
apparently it seems the old adage saying ONCE A HARAAMKHOR ALWAYS A HARAAMKHOR holds true in my case
bt the bottomline is MFC ROX.............

hey it was great to see finman also joining here. dont know whether one can term my smile as a colgate or dantmanjan smile but ya seeing u all gives me a great pleasure and m smiling for sure.

well i would to tel u finman, my other batchmates and to the whole world that this batch is special. No one is lesser than the other. Guys if i go on to describe all 42 guys in my batch, then there is something actually special abt everybody.
rite nw i wud like to tel u dat finman calls him haramkhor but he is one guy who cracked the rbi entrance and was among the select few from all over india and yeah he was our representative among guys from IIMs, etc who were competing for those elusive vacany in RBI. I sincerely hope that he gets his wish fulfilled. He too has loads of talent but is just tryin to be modest here.

yup mate... this is the bottomline... MFC ROX...

the new semester has started and along with it our guest lectures and workshops as well. Personally these lectures were something that i did miss in the past 2 months of November and December because first there were exams and then followed by semester break.
This time it started with a long workshop of 8 hours
Before it started i was just thinking ki yaar aaj mera kya hoga? How can one go through so much bak bak for 8 hours? But i was wrong . The workshop was organised by MCX (Multi Commodity Exchange) and MCX-SX (stock exchange promoted by MCX). First it focussed all on the commodities market and then on the currency derivatives later on. That guy Mr. Venkat was the baap of markets. i was literally stunned by the kind of knowledge that he possessed. And i have to say that this was one of the most interesting lectures that i have attended for a v.v.long time. Gained so much knowledge that day:)
And yeah the day did become better because of the snacks and lunch that were on offer that day for all the students

Then we had a guest lecture on Corporate Governance by an eminent Prof. from DSE. Again a good one to gain some knowledge on Clause 49 and related stuff. But the highlight of the day was his jugalbandi with the mike on the dias. All my batchmates would understand what i am talking about
It was fun :-)

Now we have to go to NSE (National stock Exchange) tomorrow after our classes get over and get some more gyaan on markets:)
Looking forward to an interesting session tomorrow. Hoping that it will be as good as the MCX one:)
Will tell u all soon that how did the session go.

PGites the design is attached for your viewing :)

And $maddy$ is a real talent with his poems... he will spare none in the class... @$maddy$ your second poem was awesome... you rock man!
