Living in a hostel is a unique experience for those who stay in it. I know what the dormitory is like through students and other faculty colleagues. I’ll tell you what I’ve heard from others.

LPU is a city unto itself, sitting on a sprawling 600-acre campus. The hostel offers many facilities to resident scholarship holders.
LPU has the most comfortable residential area and the first of its kind. Above all, there is 24-hour surveillance by security cameras and a large army of security personnel stationed throughout the university.
The LPU has 1 to 6 bed hostel including Ac and NonAC. . To maintain cleanliness, **the rooms are cleaned approximately 23 times a week. The residential facilities **of the LPU are as modern as the **campus.
The room features air conditioning, an attached bathroom and a geyser in each room. Wooden box bed, study table, chair and Almirah. Students **must apply for a permit to use electrical devices with a maximum load of 5 amps per apartment. The one and two-seater apartments have an attached hallway and a kitchenette.

In many cases students prepare for the national level exams while pursuing the high-end degrees from LPU in order to fulfill their dreams and prove beneficial for the society.

LPU Diaries

It has been more than three years since I joined LPU. Apprehensive, I stepped onto the premises, unsure of how things would turn out. Coming from a journalism background, my work culture had been dynamic and fast-paced, often unpredictable. LPU was a brand new rhythm for me. Well, now I’m getting into the groove, and it’s feeling really rewarding.

Running after quotes had its own intellectual glamour, eventually leading to rubbing shoulders with the who’s who – the doyens. Different! Spirit is just the same. Walking through DU and JNU and interacting with their professors in the past is the same as being at LPU now. Here too intellectual curiosity fuels both students and faculty alike.

Amid faculty and students running and huffing around for the next class in the grand corridors I smell of the human stories woven beneath the layers of furs and tweeds: the stories of humans, their struggles, passion and ambition. Stories are inviting and intriguing. Should I dive into their minds, exploring their thoughts and experiences to uncover their unique stories?

After the routine interviews I was introduced with my mentor Pinaak Singh (name changed), a boy in mid twenties. He seemed easy going and unassuming boy. The work seemed manageable and I was happy my young colleague didn’t make me feel like I had to be careful with my words. Given the age difference, I chatted along as an elderly colleague, complimenting on his humane outlook and wishing him well in his endeavours. His ambition and passion, reminded me of my younger days.

While getting to know about the university in true sense, I enquired about the pedagogy, the curriculum, the sincerity of the organization. To my surprise, he gave a very genuine answer much to my relief or else I wouldn’t have been able to do justice to my job.

‘I come from a family with limited financial resources. I studied at a government school and later pursued engineering at a modest government college. Eager to continue my studies, someone recommended that I join LPU.’

‘I took entrance test for M Tech and got admission here. Coming to LPU was a dazzling experience altogether. The pedagogy here was something that I had only heard of. It was very much student centric. LPU groomed me in the best possible way. The array of student activities, seminars, presentations, and discussions at LPU became the forge in which my character was meticulously molded. Each session was more than just an academic pursuit; it was an opportunity for growth, a chance to refine my thoughts and ideas. The continuous engagement with teachers acted as a guiding light, nurturing my potential and challenging my limitations. With every conversation and critique, I was reshaped, evolving into a more confident, articulate, and knowledgeable individual. These dynamic interactions not only enhanced my intellectual abilities but also instilled within me a sense of purpose, preparing me for the world beyond. I had availed merit scholarship as well that brought my fee nearly half of the actual amount.’

Pinaak had joined LPU soon after finishing the program and went on to study further. He studied MBA with a renewed confidence and a new outlook and now he is the HR manager in a multinational. Pinaak is planning to do PhD as well. Of course, his efforts complemented with a good educational institution brought out the best in him. I cherish this story because it is a story of a very dear colleague of mine. May God bless him!

Professor Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu joined as Vice Chancellor of Lovely Professional University

Professor Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu has assumed the role of Vice Chancellor at Lovely Professional University (LPU), bringing with him 35 years of remarkable experience. His career is marked by groundbreaking contributions to sports medicine, research, and policy-making, along with a strong track record in academia and leadership.

Dr. Sandhu has held several key leadership roles, including Secretary of the University Grants Commission (UGC). During his tenure at UGC, he also served as the Director of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and contributed to the governing bodies of multiple national and international educational organizations, such as the Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC), the Inter-University Accelerator Centre (IUAC), and UGC-DAE Consortium for Scientific Research. He is serving as Advisor (Higher Education) to the Hon’ble Governor of Punjab.

Dr. Sandhu, upon stepping into the role of Vice Chancellor at LPU, shared, ‘LPU has already established itself as a leader in higher education, and my vision is to build on this strong foundation. Dr. Sandhu is a highly accomplished academician and a renowned expert in the field of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. He is a gold medalist graduate in medicine from Government Medical College, Amritsar. Dr. Sandhu further pursued his postgraduate studies in Sports Medicine at the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports, Patiala, where he was recognized as the university topper. With around 250 publications in national and international journals, his research contributions are widely recognized in the academic community.

Dr. Sandhu during his time at Medical College Amritsar, introduced several groundbreaking courses in Sports Medicine, including the MD, Ph.D., and Masters in Physical Therapy programs which were unprecedented in India. He later served as a Professor in the Department of Sports Medicine and Physiotherapy. He then served as Vice-Chancellor at three universities during his career, including an impressive seven-plus years’ tenure at Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU).

In his illustrious career, Dr. Sandhu has been a Fellow of several prestigious academies, including the National Academy of Medical Sciences, the International Federation of Sports Medicine (the first Indian to be honored), and the Asian Federation of Sports Medicine. Dr. Sandhu’s contributions have earned him widespread recognition. He has also been elected as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, London, a distinction he received for his exceptional contributions to the field of sports medicine. LPU ranked among the top 10 across India in six key subjects in the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) Subject Rankings

Lovely Professional University (LPU) has once again solidified its standing as one of India’s premier educational institutions, securing an extraordinary achievement in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by subject 2025. This year, LPU has been featured in seven subjects, with six of them placing in the top 10 in India.

LPU ranked 1st in India and 251-300 globally in Social Sciences, surpassing top universities like the University of Delhi, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), and Panjab University (PU). In Medical and Health, it secured 2nd in India and 301-400 globally, outperforming Jamia Millia Islamia and Aligarh Muslim University. For Physical Sciences, LPU ranked 3rd in India and 251-300 globally, ahead of IITs like IIT Indore, Patna, Guwahati, and Mandi, as well as Delhi Technical University (DTU). It also ranked 3rd in India and 301-400 globally in Engineering, surpassing IITs including IIT Guwahati, Indore, Mandi, Ropar, and Gandhinagar. In Business and Economics, LPU ranked 5th in India and 501-600 globally, outperforming BHU, DTU, and PU. Additionally, it ranked 6th in India and 401-500 globally in Life Sciences, ahead of PU and JNU, and 12th in India and 501-600 globally in Computer Science, outperforming IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Guwahati, and DTU. These rankings reflect LPU’s continuous growth and academic prowess.

LPU Ranked 24th in India in QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2025, Outperforming various IITs

Lovely Professional University has achieved a significant milestone by securing the 24th position in India and 749th globally in the prestigious Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings: Sustainability 2025. This ranking highlights LPU’s efforts in sustainability, surpassing renowned institutions like IIT Varanasi, Guwahati, Gandhinagar, Bhubaneswar, Indore, Hyderabad, Ropar, University of Madras, University of Mumbai, and various NITs.

The QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2025 evaluated universities across three key criteria: Environmental Impact, Social Impact, and Governance, each further divided into performance lenses. Under the Environmental Impact category, LPU was ranked 5th in India and 165th globally for its commitment to environmental sustainability. In the Social Impact category, specifically within the Knowledge Exchange lens, LPU held the 3rd position in India and ranked 475th globally. These rankings highlighted LPU’s dedication to integrating Sustainable Development Goals across all its operations, aligning with the Government of India’s objectives. They also emphasized the crucial role of universities as centers of education, research, and operational sustainability.

These rankings offer a valuable lens to evaluate institutions’ dedication to sustainability, underscoring the critical role of higher education in promoting the well-being of both society and the planet.

LPU is not the only a university, it’s like a city, and then you need not stay outside. It is like a home away from home. Everything is available on the campus and safe for you. The LPU hostels are more convenient, and staying outside the campus is not safe. As LPU is itself a mini town in its periphery. Students do not need to pass the gates of LPU for any essentials, you just name the thing and it is available inside the LPU campus only.

Safety Concerns :
The whole campus means every nook is Covered with CCTV cameras. Outsiders are not allowed to enter the University campus without a GATE pass. In fact, the staff who does not have RFIDs of their conveyance are not allowed to enter without the GATE pass. Girls are not allowed to go outside the university at any given point of time, to go outside the university, permissions from parents are taken to provide them with the GATE pass. The university is secured completely with high walls, barbed wires, security guards, and CCTVs so no loopholes where they can sneak from. Girls have to enter their specifics in the particular time duration of 7 pm, and they cannot escape from hostels as boys are allowed to roam the university till 9 pm maximum. Girls who want to study in the Central library at night are allotted 2 hrs of time and will be accompanied by guards to the library and back from the library to their respective hostels. Girls are handled by the women security guards only. Illegal substances are strictly forbidden and regular checks are done to make sure such activities do not happen in the university. Any offensive act is not at all appreciated inside the campus and results in strict actions being taken against such action by the University.
